| Ultrasonic sensors in road and tunnel
construction |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: During the
construction of major highway and railway
projects, particularly in tunnel construction,
huge quantities of excavation occur. When the
mining takes years, it is worth to use giant
conveyor belt systems. Such installations may be
several kilometers long and have a capacity of
more than 1000 tons/hour. These belts are of
course fully automated. This creates the risk
that the excavation blocks the hopper at the
transfer points from one band to another. For
permanent monitoring of the transfer stations
robust ultrasonic sensors are used. They look
down into the hopper and report if the level
exceeds a certain value. The plant will then be
slowed or stopped accordingly. Suitable
ultrasonic sensors from SNT Sensortechnik AG are
those of the UPK Series. SNT Sensortechnik AG is

| 65’000h endurance test with ultrasonic
sensors |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Ultrasonic sensors are often
used thanks to their advantageous physical principle
when, for example,
optical sensors do not work properly due to heavy
dirt or rough environment. All the more it is important
that the sensors electronics and mechanics are tuned for
ruggedness and long service life. SNT Sensortechnik AG
has established an endurance test stand in 2004. The
devices are permanently turned on and they are checked
periodically. Meanwhile, some of the sensors have
accumulated 65’000 hours, and they measure the same as
on the first day. Besides the electronic components, the
ultrasonic transducer is the most critical part. It
represents an acoustic diaphragm which is
electromechanically excited approx. 30 times per second.
The amplitude in the center was measured as a few
micrometers. And the transmission duration of one pulse
is about 0.1 milliseconds. Thus with a typical
ultrasonic frequency of 200kHz the accumulated number of
membrane oscillations during the whole endurance test is
around 1011. That’s 100 billion oscillations. The
membrane, of which one does not perceive that it is
moving, has passed 200km forth and to 200km back in this
time. SNT Sensortechnik AG is a specialist in
ultrasonic sensors for more than 20 years. ... |

| The world’s fastest ultrasonic sensor for
highly transparent objects |
| |
Baumer:
With a response time of merely 1.3 ms, the new
ultrasonic sensor UNAM 12 is the world’s fastest and
comes very close to a photoelectric sensor. Twenty times
faster than conventional ultrasonic sensors it is
destined for highly dynamic processes. This, and the
additional ability to detect very closely placed
objects, leads to a considerable increase in efficiency.
UNAM 12 detects ultra-transparent packaging materials
such as foils or bottles as well as wafers and glass in
order to ensure a smooth process flow. To do so with
maximum reliability, the ultrasonic sensing principle
guarantees impeccable operation regardless of the degree
of soiling. Beyond that, the sensor versions with a
special beam columnator come with a very narrow sonic
beam and, therefore, are able to reliably identify
individual objects with even the smallest separation
distances. The narrow sonic beam also allows for the
sensor to be mounted behind a protective wall and detect
objects through narrow gaps in the wall. Thanks to the
lateral accuracy of 0.5 mm, the sensor also is extremely
precise. ... |

| Measuring roll diameter with ultrasonic
sensor |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Ultrasonic sensors with
analogue output (0..10V or 4...20mA) measure the
distance to objects of different size and texture. The
measuring ranges vary from few centimeters to several
meters. The measurement is performed by means of time of
flight measurement of ultrasonic echoes. The ultrasound
frequency determines significantly the maximum possible
resolution accuracy. It is typically about 0.1...0.2% of
full scale measuring range. I.e. at some 1/10mm up to
few mm. If an ultrasonic sensor is directed radially to
the surface of a material roll or cylinder, one can
indirectly measure the roll diameter. The shorter the
distance to the sensor, the greater is the current
diameter of the roll. Although the accuracy is limited
as described above, the detection with ultrasound is -
in contrast to optical sensors - almost independent of
the material und thus more reliable. Depending on the
roll diameter, analogue sensors from SNT Sensortechnik
AG of the series UPS (small distances), UPR (middle
distances) or UPK (long distances) are used. SNT
Sensortechnik AG is a specialist in ultrasonic sensors

SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Fresh cut
flowers that are shipped internationally
in large quantities, must be fresh, but
still efficiently processed and packaged
very gently. In this flower-packing
machine it has to be detected when a
bunch of flowers is ready in the tub for
packing. An ultrasonic sensor of the UPR

Ultrasonic sensors for wood chip level control |
| |

WayCon
Positionsmesstechnik: Wood chip or wood
pellet heating systems are modern CO2-neutral
biomass heating systems for both private and
large industrial plants. As the volume
consumption is relatively large compared to
liquid fuels, the knowledge of the current level
is particularly important. For large industrial
heaters the feed quantity has to be controlled
and thus measured as well. Conventional simple
level gauges are often overstretched because of
the dirty and dusty environment in a tank or on
a chip-conveyor belt. Whereas ultrasonic sensors
measure reliably even in dusty air and with
polluted membrane. Wood pellets are pressed
sawdust with no additives. They are particularly
suitable for home heating. Wood chips are used
mainly in agriculture and industry, where wood
residues are available almost for free. Best

Sensors for the food industry, The challenge of perfection |
| |
|
Pepperl+Fuchs
now manufactures sensors for the food industry
that more than satisfy the demanding requirements for
cleanliness and hygiene in this sector – in three
different technologies. Ultrasonic, inductive and
optical sensors. All machines that process food have
areas that pose different levels of contamination risk:
the product-contact area, the splash area and the
product-free area. Pepperl+Fuchs has categorized these
areas into zones and assigned sensor properties to each
zone. Zone A, B and C. Zone A requires the highest
standards of hygiene and so Pepperl+Fuchs has developed
the UMC3000
ultrasonic sensor, which is the first proximity
sensor that can detect objects directly. The UMC3000 is
manufactured entirely from FDA approved materials and
designed according to EHEDG guidelines. IP69K protection
for extreme thermal shocks is essential in harsh
applications. The MLE76 optical sensor is chemically
resistant to cleaning agents and offers IP69K protection
in spite of the tough ambient conditions in the food
industry. The gap-free enclosure and extremely smooth
stainless steel surface satisfy cleanliness requirements
outlined in EHEDG guidelines. Inductive sensors

Non-Invasive Flow Sensor SONOFLOW for the Use at Flexible Tubes |
| |
|
SONOTEC
presents for the first time its latest clamp-on ultrasonic flow sensor
SONOFLOW CO.54 for the use at flexible tubes at the COMPAMED 2010. The
specialist for ultrasonic applications from Halle expands with the
intelligent ultrasonic sensor for non-invasive flow detection its sensor
series. Potential applications of the compact ultrasonic sensor for a
quick and reliable flow detection lie in the field of medical,
laboratory and pharmaceutical technology. Due to its special
construction the ultrasonic sensor provides great advantages in areas
with strict hygienic standards. The method is adaptable to individual
tube sizes and other specifications, such as power supply, different
materials and signal output. Since the tube is to be pressed into the
clamp, the ultrasonic sensors have no contact with the liquid and they
do not need any coupling medium. The measurement is independent of the
liquid colour. Further advantages of the clamp-on method are the quick
operating principle without any time lag and the fact that there is no
wear at the ultrasonic sensor. ... |

The sure way to avoid paper jams |
| |
|
Pepperl+Fuchs:
Ultrasonic double material sensors: We’ve all experienced the situation:
you stand in front of the photocopier waiting patiently for the last
sheet of paper only to discover that it has folded itself carefully
between the rollers and is now blocking the path of all subsequent
copies. Those who have the patience and time to consult the manual to
find out what to do are fortunate. But not all of us have the time or
the desire to find out about the intricacies of the copier and its feed
system. While this may be a minor irritation in the consumer sector,
such paper jams can cause enormous cost in industry due to stoppages and
reject goods and often also result in high-cost repairs to the sensitive
rollers of the printing presses or other parts of paper processing
machinery. Accordingly, the primary aim must be to detect these paper
jams (caused by the feeding of doubled sheets of paper) before they
happen and to prevent them. In recent years, ultrasonic technology has
proven its effectiveness for this central task in ... |

Baumer expands its portfolio of IO-Link
sensors |
| |
|
Baumer:
Nowadays, users look for an increasingly simple operation of their
machines. Additionally, requests for a maximized machine performance and
minimized down time are made. Baumer meets these customer requirements
with expanding ist existing portfolio of IO-Link sensors. Already in
2007, Baumer fittet their first sensor with the communications standard
IO-Link, the smallest photoelectric sensor with background suppression
FHDK 04. Next to the red light distance sensor FADK 14 a communication
between sensor and control via IO-Link is also possible in the new
Series 09 ultrasonic sensor since the beginning of this year. Thanks to
the bi-directional communication between control and sensor/actuator,
parameterization is facilitated considerably and can be effected during
the process. Additionally, it is possible to avoid machine down time due
to error diagnosis or early detection. Remote parameterization and
diagnostics via online communication are realistic for the future. Thus,
Baumer pushes the establishment of IO-Link and develops additional
IO-Link products in all sensor technologies. E.g. the inductive sensor
IWRM 12 will soon be available with the communications standard ... |

UPF ultrasonic fork sensors used in
production of photovoltaic foils |
| |
|
The
new UPF-A sensors from SNT Sensortechnik AG are used in the
production of novel flexible photovoltaic foils. Existing silicon based
photovoltaic cells are deposited on glass, which is heavy and fragile.
The new partially transparent polyimide films are subjected to vacuum
coating processes and rolled up at the end. The low weight and
mechanical flexibility opens completely new fields of solar electric
power generation. Between each process the film has to be brought back
to the correct position. Here works the ultrasonic edge sensor with
analog output type UPF-A. It gives a linear signal (0…10V) in function
of the web edge position. The signal is then used by the machine control
to slightly tilt the next roll until the foil runs again in the middle
of the sensor. This is a permanent control process in the 1/10 mm range.
The ultrasonic sensors are here very much superior to conventional
optical through beam sensors because they can detect the edges of
transparent or partially transparent material without problems. ... |

Scientific investigations prove adverse
effects from contamination in reflecting ultrasonic flowmeters are a
myth |
| |
|
Krohne:
Ultrasonic flowmeters for custody-transfer measurement of natural gas
are prone to contamination. There have been continuous allegations that
ultrasonic flowmeters with soiled reflectors will measure inaccurately
due to the contamination on the reflectors. Up to today, there have been
no test results that will withhold this allegation. Exhaustive
investigations at the EON Ruhrgas high-pressure gas testing facility in
Lintorf (Germany) on possible effects of contamination on ultrasonic
flowmeters (UFM) have irrefutably shown that the accuracy is not
affected by the reflection principle. Indeed, the investigations
substantiate a significant advantage of reflection technology; actually
compared to direct path measurement the level of contamination can be
recognised from the reflection properties of the acoustic signal. ... |

The pico+ ultrasonic sensor family now
has an analogue addition |
| |
|
The
future belongs to the IO-Link. Even so, there is still a long life left
for the ultrasonic sensor with analogue output. That is why
microsonic GmbH has now extended the M18 pico+ product range with
sensors of a 0–10 voltage output and a 4–20 mA current output. The pico+
ultrasonic sensors are the smallest M18 sensors in the manufacturer's
range. They have a 30 mm blind zone and a slim beam spread. Thanks to a
0.2 mm resolution they even scan small objects with a maximum degree of
precision. All pico+ ultrasonic sensors can be had in 3 ranges and 2
housing variants. The proven microsonic teach-in procedure allows the
analogue characteristic to be set and the output characteristic switched
over from the rising to the falling one. Both the switching design of
the IO-Link interface and the analogue pico+ ultrasonic sensors are

The piezo plays detective, Ultrasonic
transducers in air-bubble detectors (ABD) |
| |

PI
Ceramic (PIC): In medical engineering it is often necessary to
ensure there is an undisturbed flow with no air or gas pockets. This is
achieved with the aid of ultrasonic technology in so-called bubble or
air-bubble detectors (ABD). Piezoelectric components from PI Ceramic are
used as the ultrasonic transducers. They generate and receive the
ultrasonic waves for these sensors. The sensors are mounted on the
outside of flexible tubes and operate under sterile conditions without
coming into contact with the medium to be transported; they therefore do
not interfere with the flow rate, nor is there any danger of
contamination. The bubble detector detects air bubbles in flexible
plastic tubes filled with liquid, regardless of the color of the medium.
Permanent monitoring of the flow is particularly essential for dialysis,
transfusion pumps or heart-lung machines ... |

task. Very small sensors with wide sensing ranges can be employed when
space is limited and therefore reduce design efforts on machines. At the
same time, high resolutions to the micrometer range guarantee precise
measurements which result in a high process quality. Robust sensors in
metal housings are available for applications under rough conditions.
They have a high durability and provide for high process reliability,

Open communication – Ultrasonic sensors
with IO-Link |
| |
|
Thanks
to their new IO-Link interface, Baumer’s Series 09 ultrasonic
sensors can now communicate with the control bi-directionally. Thus, the
sensors’ intelligence, e.g. the integrated sonic echo analysis, can be
used externally. As a result they are more versatile than conventional
sensors and increase the process reliability. On the one hand, the
sensor can be adjusted ideally to the current situation during the
process via the direct communication from the control. For instance, the
integrated temperature compensation can be switched off or on as needed.
This results e.g. in quicker and more accurate measurands when the
machine is started. The output function (edge/window) can also be
adjusted individually according to the objects to be detected, which
ensures a relaible detection in every situation. On the other hand,
information emitted by the sensor can now be used for troubleshooting
and therefore prevent process errors or machine breakdowns ... |

Ultrasonic Fork Frame Light Barrier |
| |
|
Labelling
always means precision work at maximum speed. Conventional optical fork
frame light barriers fail where transparent labels, printed with metal
particle lacquers, are to be detected on transparent backing films. The
new ELTROTEC ultrasonic fork frame light barrier FA 98 ULTRA has
been developed to meet exactly these demands and is working at a
precision rate of 100% when triggering labelling machines. With its rim
width of 3mm and a fork depth of 70 mm it can be applied for various
labels and, due to its depth, even reaches significant trigger points
located further on the inside of a carrier material. High repeatability
is ensured with a switching frequency of 1 KHz and the simple
adjustment of rims and gaps via teach-in. Because of ultrasonic
principle there are no effects of extraneous light on the sensor. Also
available from ELTROTEC are optical forks of identical type with a
breadth of 12 mm, rim width of 3 and 5 mm and a switching frequency of
10 KHz of the FA 98 S series as well as capacitive label sensors for all
label types with up to 30 KHz switching frequency for the detection of
splices, ... |

Teachable ultrasonic fork sensors for web guide and edge control |

SNT
Sensortechnik AG: The new edge sensors type UPF-A TOR are based on
the experience of SNT Sensortechnik AG with ultrasonic through beam
sensors. New software algorhythms and a unique SONARANGE ultrasonic
transducer material allow an accuracy and temperature stability so far
only realized with optical systems. But the ultrasonic fork barrier is
much less sensitive to dirt and dust compared to optical sensors.
Further more transparent materials such as foils can be perfectly
handled. The so called plane change error has been minimized to almost
zero. Together with the high sampling speed of the sensor this means
that fast moving and thus fluttering webs are well aligned. The sensor
can ideally be adjusted to the actual air conditions by the help of the
teach-in function. Furthermore acoustically transparent materials such
as textiles can be measured. With teach-in the signal output can be
defined at fully closed as well as at fully open fork. In addition, the
output signal can also be inverted via teach-in. The new ultrasonic ensors can be teached by push buttons or through the ... |

SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Oil resistant: Thanks to the new transducer
sealing made of Viton® the UPR sensors are very robust against many
environmental influences. In particular, they are oil resistant, unlike
many other ultrasonic sensors. The black annular seal between the white
transducer and the sensor housing is used for acoustic decoupling. Thus
it must be of elastic material. SNT Sensortechnik AG is now able to
offer this sealing in very resistant Viton® material. Uniformly: In the
context of product rework all old types of the UPR series are now built
in UPR 1003 version. This means a reduction in the variety of models and
in addition all UPR sensors will have full background suppression. These
improvements are now starting to flow into the production of all UPR
sensors. There are no additional costs for the customer. SNT

Ultrasonic sensor for the smallest objects |
| |
|
Baumer
is launching its new Series 09 ultrasonic sensors for detecting very
small objects in openings with small diameters. The sensors are equipped
with a special nozzle which allows them to measure into openings of a
minimum of 3 mm in diameter. Thanks to the rectangular housing with a
width of only 9 mm, they are ideally suited for applications with
limited space and can be cascaded. The resulting parallel measurement
and the short response time of 7 ms lead to shorter process times. The
electrical outputs range from analog and digital to serial or IO-link,
which increases the flexibility. Although the ultrasonic sensors have
originally been developed for the laboratory automation they can be used
in many different industries. ... |

Novel edge control with ultrasonic fork

SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Edges of running webs and belts get laterally
misaligned after a short time without permanent external control.
Typical applications are found for example in the manufacture and
processing of foils, paper, tin or textiles, but also for drive belts.
Previously, mechanical or optical sensors have been used to determine
the lateral position of the edge in order to continuously adjust
mechanically. These are often too slow or too sensitive to dirt and
dust. Moreover, optical sensors cannot reliably detect edges of
transparent or partially transparent material. Especially modern
packaging and labeling foils have these properties: they are transparent
and partially printed. The new ultrasonic fork sensors series UPF-A of
SNT Sensortechnik AG have been developed exactly for these applications.
They consist of a transmitter and receiver who exchange ultrasonic
signals. The ultrasonic transducers are developed and manufactured
in-house. Depending on the coverage of the edge, more or less signal is
received. Depending on the coverage of the edge, more or less signal is

UPS 150 FB Series: Level measurement in
cavities with only 4mm diameter |
| |
|
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Our UPS miniature ultrasonic sensors had a very
successful sales performance in 2008. Many industrial applications can
be solved with the standard model UPS 200, where optical, inductive or
capacitive sensors might have problems with detection. Furthermore with
the UPS sensors with analogue output a precise distance or level
measurement can be realized, with a precision of approx. 0.3mm. The
special version “FOCUS Beam” has been particularly successful in various
applications. It proved its advantage in the detection through very
narrow openings. Since the FOCUS Beam does not have any disadvantageous
blind range, one can place it very close (few millimeters only) to the
opening of a cavity. There the beam is only 3mm wide in diameter. This
allowed e.g. to measure the level in only 4mm wide honey comb shape
cavities as used in medical laboratory applications (see left picture
below) with an accuracy of only few 1/10mm. Of course such measurement
needs a precise alignment of the sensor axis and the cavity to be
measured. On the right side below the comparison of detection beams of
UPS 200 (standard sensor) vs. UPS 150 FB (FOCUS Beam sensor) is shown. ... |

From the inventor of the ultrasonic
double sheet control: the new dbk+4 |
| |
|
microsonic:
In 1999 a well-known printing machine manufacturer for the first time
used the microsonic dbk-4 double sheet control in his sheet printing
machines. Since then the field of applications has extended far beyond
this. microsonic has now brought a new generation of ultrasonic double
sheet controls onto the market. The new dbk+4 goes down extremely well
thanks to an absolutely new field of application and that fact that it
unites several variants of its predecessor in just one appliance. Three
control inputs now enable 3 pre-set working ranges to be selected – and
also changed during ongoing operations. "Standard" covers the broadest
spectrum of materials and weights for the straightforward double sheet
monitoring. "Thin" is used especially with very thin papers or films.
The "Thick" working mode is there for scanning thick plastic films or

Flow control per ultrasonic |
| |
|
With
its Type 8081 ultrasonic flow transmitter, Bürkert Fluid Control
Systems launches a completely new transmitter for monitoring or
controlling aqueous solutions. Applications include monitoring the
cooling water during robot welding, injection moulding, die casting, as
well as monitoring coolants in metal cutting applications. Thanks to the
ultrasonic technology, the 8081 is also ideal for all applications where
flow in a highly dynamic range (up to 1:500) needs to be measured with
great accuracy (2% oR + 0.01% FS) using sensors with no moving parts.
This very high dynamic range significantly restricts the types of
suitable
flow sensors. Measurement principle: The measurement principle
behind the 8081 is based on the transit time technique: two piezo-electric
sound converters (transmitter-receiver) transmit and receive the sound
waves. The sound travel times are measured in the nanosecond range. The
crucial point is that the
ultrasonic signal moves faster in the flow
direction than in the opposite direction: the difference in transit time
is directly proportional to the flow speed and can therefore be used to
determine the flow rate. An integrated patented measurement pipe
generates an homogenous flow profile ... |

Ultrasonic Sensors - When a µ-liter makes
the difference |
| |
|
Baumer
Electric: In lab automation small containers such as microwell
plates or test tubes are used in analytical processes of liquids. Since
the liquids to be analyzed are often available in limited quantities
only, this market has been confronted with an ever increasing demand for
highly precise level measurement. Baumer is now responding to this
challenge with the new Series 09 ultrasonic sensors. They are capable of
measuring into wells with as little as 3,3 mm opening diameter,
providing a 0,1 mm resolution. This performance converted to a type 384
microplate results in a resolution of 1,09 microliters. Thus, the loss
of liquid can be kept within very tight limits. Additionally, the
measurement allows the detection of flaws at an early stage of the
analyzing process, which keeps the general process quality at a high
level. Efficiency concerning scanning speed is a further highlight of
the Series 09 sensors. Thanks to a housing width of less than 9 mm,
eight sensors arranged in-line are capable of scanning a type 96
microwell plate in one single cycle. The short response of as little as
seven milliseconds allows fast scanning rates, which in turn lead to
minimal process times. The benefit are a maximum of process quality at a
minimum loss of time. The range of applications for the new ultrasonic
sensors is far larger than the described liquid level measurement in lab
automation systems ... |

Weld Inspection and Crack Detection with
Ultrasound |
| |
|
The
newly developed SONOSCAN angle probes of SONOTEC for
non-destructive material testing check metals for cracks and inclusions.
They are mainly used in the metal industry. The ultrasonic probes are
able to detect critical defects as well as quality deficiencies of
welds. They are effective ultrasonic converters which compatible with
the common mobile ultrasonic testing equipment. Inside the angle probes
there is a transducer which is able to emit ultrasonic transverse waves
in a specific angle to the workpart via a forward wedge. Existent
material deficiencies can be identified on the basis of the reflection
echo. It is possible to adapt to curved surfaces i.e. adaptation to
different pipe forms through seat grinding of the probes. Thus the DIN
EN 1714 standard regarding non-destructive testing of welds can be well
achieved. The unique and benefical ergonomical shape of the angle probes
enables a comfortable and a handy usage. The precise ultrasonic probes
are developed and manufactured by SONOTEC in two different types of
construction. They can be chosen according to the angle, the frequencies
and the size of transducers for different material thickness as well as
spatial conditions. ... |

Ready, steady, I'm there already: Rapid
125 Hz Switching Frequency |
| |
|
microsonic:
High counting frequencies, short reaction times – no problem at all for
the zws-7 sensor. The typical switching frequencies of ultrasonic
sensors – 2 to 25 Hz - depend on the range. However these frequencies do
not suffice in many applications. To meet these particular requirements,
microsonic has developed the zws-7 ultrasonic sensor. It scans objects
at a maximum 100 mm detecting range with a switching frequency of up to
125 Hz in keeping with DIN EN 60947-5-2. This allows both detection of
objects with a high counting frequency and extremely narrow gaps between
two objects at fast machinery speeds. The zws-7 responds under 3 ms.
Additionally fitting the new SoundPipe to the zws-7 would markedly raise
the power to detect narrow gaps between two objects at high ... |

Baumer Miniature sensors - Small,
lightweight and precise |
| |
|
For
applications in restricted space, Baumer offers the most diverse
miniature sensors for convincing and precise solutions. The small IWRM
04 distance-measuring inductive sensors, with a diameter of 4 mm and a
housing length of only 30 mm, are the most compact inductive analog
sensors on the market. With a short response time of 0,5 ms and the high
resolution of 1 μm, they are without equal in this size class. The FHDK
04 optical miniature sensor provides a compelling argument with very
high efficiency background suppression. The Baumer developers were able
to accommodate this sensor in a housing measuring only 4 x 6 x 45 mm.
With a bracket for profiles and only one groove plate, this sensor can
be secured in any commercially available extrusion frame. Several
sensors may be operated next to one another without any mutual optical
interference. In addition, the IO-Link communications standard is
supported. Ultrasonic sensors ... |

Pin-point detection of glue traces |
| |
|
Leuze:
The system VSU12 comprising two ultrasound sensors and a separate
indicating unit was developed specifically for the reliable detection of
glued joints in paper webs. This system is able to recognize glue joints
independently of the roller and glue material, the adhesive tape colour
and the execution of the glue joint. As the ultrasound sensors are able
to recognize the glued joints either within a roller or between a main
and a secondary roller not only almost irrespective of the material,
colour and properties of the gluing material, but also independently of
the roller material, the same glue joint sensor can be used to process
not only paper but also film material. And furthermore, the system
adapts automatically after a change of material without even requiring a
teach-in process for the new material. All the operator does is to
preselect the basic material at the indicator unit once. The indicator
unit then adjusts automatically to the noise permeability of the roll
material. The maximum web speed at which this system ... |

Electric: IO-Link is the new standard in the lower communication
layer supported by leading automation and sensor manufacturers. An
IO-Link sensor transmits standard digital or analog output signals and
provides an additional serial data communication with the control unit
as master to exchange parameters such as the measuring range,
sensitivity, time delay and operating mode. Because the serial data
transmission needs no additional wires and the output signals are
compatible, it is possible to use standard cables and connectors and
combine or mix IO-Link devices and standard devices. This advantage
simplifies the entry, realization and use of this new and easy
technology. Baumer offers now an expanded range of IO-Link products.
From the smallest optical switches up to ultrasonic and inductive
distance sensors, a wide variety of technologies and devices is
available. ... |
