Draw-wire sensors with a plastic line

Draw-wire sensors with a plastic lineThe use of a "wire" of synthetic material in draw-wire sensors is ensuring additional application areas for the wireSENSOR P85 sensors from Micro-Epsilon. Thanks to its high tensile strength, its low expansion and extremely long service life, it is technically equal in every way to conventional steel wire while its lower weight is a further bonus. Even the cable connector is completely free of metal, since the ring eyelet is made entirely of plastic. It is used, for example, in high voltage areas where no conductive connection between the measuring system and the target is allowed for safety reasons. In medical technology too, the absence of metal offers major advantages. The plastic line means there is no interference when taking X-ray films or when scanning with MRI systems. This makes the P85 an ideal sensor for such applications. The flexible and modular construction concept of the draw-wire sensor means that sensors with plastic lines are now available as OEM versions with many other sensor series. ...

Draw-wire sensors for the testing of rotor blades

Draw-wire sensors from Micro-EpsilonDraw-wire sensors from Micro-Epsilon are being used in the testing of new wind turbine rotor blades at the Fraunhofer Institute IWES, Bremerhaven. The test rig is designed for rotor blades with a maximum length of 70m. The rotor blade distortion due to wind loads is simulated in this rig. The tip of the rotor blade can be distorted by up to 10m due to mechanical loads. The rotor blade is mounted horizontally in the test rig for this. Steel cables are routed to the rotor using guide pulleys and attached to the rotor blade at various positions, either directly or via mechanical clamps. Twelve draw-wire sensors from Micro-Epsilon are used for to measure the distortion. Mounted on the rails on the floor are two draw-wire sensors for each steel cable, which measure the movement and the distortion of the rotor blade. The sensors of the wireSENSOR P115 series have measuring ranges of between 3m and 10m and operate with a digital signal output. The sensors are particularly robust due to their aluminium housing. ...

Low-cost draw wire sensors for a measuring range of up to 5m

Low-cost draw wire sensors for a measuring range of up to 5mThe new wireSENSOR MK-88 extends the Micro-Epsilon portfolio of ultra-compact draw wire sensors. A low-cost alternative to the aluminium-based standard industrial range, the MK series excels in its compact design, its glass fibre reinforced plastic construction and its particularly low price for large quantities. The wireSENSOR MK88, in particular, offers an outstanding balance of sensor size and measuring range. Wire lengths of 2.3m, 3.5m or 5m open the door to applications that used to be exclusive to larger and more expensive sensors. Sensors with potentiometer-based interfaces are available (4…20mA, 0-10V, 0-1 kΩ). For OEM projects, all common incremental and absolute digital interfaces or field busses may be used. ...

New wire-actuated encoders for more flexibility and safety in linear measuring systems

wire-actuated encodersSIKO’s compact wire-actuated encoders are backed by decades of experience and offer an easy-to-install and reliable way of linear position measurement. A wide range of industrial applications is possible, even in difficult environmental conditions. With the introduction of the new wire-actuated encoder range, SIKO supplements its tried and tested range with versions that set new standards in terms of flexibility and safety. Temperature ranges down to -40°C and a design that is suitable for use in wet and dirty environments result in a high degree of protection and guarantee reliability as well as durability and maintenance-free functionality. The new SG21 and SG31 models allow almost any adaptation of encoders thus resulting in unique flexibility for integration into various control concepts. The SG32 and SG42 wire-actuated encoders offer improved safety through special redundant sensors which are used to monitor the rotation of the drum. In this way, the safety of passengers on aerial work platforms is given special consideration. The new SIKO wire-actuated encoder range ...

Application of Draw Wire Transducers in a burial monument

Draw Wire TransducersWayCon Positionsmesstechnik GmbH: Accuracy measurement for monitoring of structural deformations and convergences in an ancient burial monument through a draw wire displacement transducer of the SX series with 50mm measurement range. An ancient burial monument ca. 300 BC, was unearthed 100 years ago in the near of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece. Over the years the monumnet is becoming unstable due to ground erosion. A solution to stabilize the monument was needed. The responsible Division of the Ministry of Culture appointed the company “Neotek” a greek distributor of WayCon Positionsmesstechnik GmbH in Germany to find a solution. To accomplish this project, an accurat measurement system was necessary to collect the relevant data. Various draw wire transducers from the series SX are connected to a self-standing data logger and a battery box. Power is conserved by a timing switch. The Waycon displacement transducers monitor structural deformations and convergences. Readings are taken every 6 hours. Waycon is a manufacturer of accurate measurement systems and professional sensors for industry and research for all applications in areas of position and distance measurement techniques, level measurements and ...

Lowcost draw-wire sensors measure up to 7.5m

Lowcost draw-wire sensorsThe latest draw-wire sensor from measurement technology manufacturer Micro-Epsilon is the wireSENSOR MK120. This new MK model is part of the company’s well-established low-cost draw-wire sensor range and offers a measuring range of up to 7.5m. This is currently the largest measuring range available in this product range. The new draw-wire sensor completes the company’s MK sensor series. The sensor’s ultra compact design and large measuring range is particularly beneficial to the customer. The MK120 series is available with measuring ranges of 3,000mm, 5,000mm and 7,500mm. The sensors are available with outputs of 4… 20 mA, 0 … 10 V or potentiometric outputs. Derived from numerous standard draw-wire sensors, the MK120 is based on extensively tried and tested technology. A significant difference from the standard sensors in the series is the housing, which is made from glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) rather than metal. The sensor can therefore be provided at a relatively low cost for high volume orders. With a measuring range of 7,500mm, applications that require a large measuring range and a low-cost sensor can now be used. In the case of special requirements, other signal types and particularly redundant variants are also optionally realised for the MK series. ...
