| New ATEX-approved LBFS level switch from
Baumer |
| |
Baumer’s
multi-purpose LBFS
level switch is now available in three different
ATEX configurations which enable safe level detection in
explosive gaseous and dusty atmospheres, typically found
in the chemical, pharmaceutical, or food industries.
Baumer uses a highly specialised protective design for
the ATEX versions of the LBFS. Thanks to this, versions
Ex ta for dust (zones 20, 21, and 22) and Ex nA for gas
(zone 2) can be used without a Zener barrier because the
housing itself already provides all the necessary
protection. This is very cost-effective because usually
all sensors for hazardous areas require a Zener barrier.
The ATEX certifications cover zones 0, 1, and 2 (gas) as
well as zones 20, 21, and 22 (dust). Quick installation
and ease of use is also ensured for version Ex ia for
gas (zones 0 and 1). For this version, Baumer provides
the ready-for-use isolation module PROFSI3 LS which is
specially designed for use with Baumer’s level switches
LBFS and LFFS. This dedicated isolation module saves
users the time and effort of selecting and configuring
an additional Zener barrier to operate the sensor. ... |

| Ultrasonic sensors in road and tunnel
construction |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: During the construction of
major highway and railway projects, particularly in
tunnel construction, huge quantities of excavation
occur. When the mining takes years, it is worth to use
giant conveyor belt systems. Such installations may be
several kilometers long and have a capacity of more than
1000 tons/hour. These belts are of course fully
automated. This creates the risk that the excavation
blocks the hopper at the transfer points from one band
to another. For permanent monitoring of the transfer
stations robust ultrasonic sensors are used. They look
down into the hopper and report if the level exceeds a
certain value. The plant will then be slowed or stopped
accordingly. Suitable ultrasonic sensors from SNT
Sensortechnik AG are those of the UPK Series. SNT
Sensortechnik AG is a specialist in ultrasonic sensors
for more than 20 years. ... |

Ultrasonic sensors for wood chip level control |
| |
| WayCon
Positionsmesstechnik: Wood chip or wood
pellet heating systems are modern CO2-neutral
biomass heating systems for both private and
large industrial plants. As the volume
consumption is relatively large compared to
liquid fuels, the knowledge of the current level
is particularly important. For large industrial
heaters the feed quantity has to be controlled
and thus measured as well. Conventional simple
level gauges are often overstretched because of
the dirty and dusty environment in a tank or on
a chip-conveyor belt. Whereas ultrasonic sensors
measure reliably even in dusty air and with
polluted membrane. Wood pellets are pressed
sawdust with no additives. They are particularly
suitable for home heating. Wood chips are used
mainly in agriculture and industry, where wood
residues are available almost for free. Best
suited ultrasonic sensors for this application
are the UFA or the UN Series. ... |

Space-saving and flexible capacitive sensor for reliable liquid level
detection |
| |
| Baumer
launches the new CFDK 25
capacitive sensor for the reliable detection of
liquid levels in confined spaces. The sensor is
characterized by its very flat housing and versatile
mounting options. It detects liquids through container
materials. The very flat housing design with a height of
only 6 mm allows easy installation e.g. between a
container and the wall. To further facilitate the
integration of the capacitive sensor into machines and
facilities, Baumer offers a matching innovative mounting
frame. Using this frame, the sensor can be installed not
only with screws but also with cable ties, Velcro
fastener or glue. For
liquid level measurements at mobile repositories,
e.g. waste containers in lab automation, the same sensor
can be used for several containers where frames are
already attached. The sensor can be removed from and
re-installed into the mounting frame easily and without
tools (Snap in place). Four fixed sensing distances from
2 to 25 mm supersede a potentiometer and turn the CFDK
25 into a plug-and-play solution. In order to guarantee
chemical resistance and thus a long product life also
under demanding conditions, the housing of the
capacitive sensor is made of ... |

There’s a name for hydrostatic level measurement: DCX Data loggers for
hydrostatic level measurements |
| |
| Keller
AG für Druckmesstechnik offers
probes to monitor groundwater levels and
filling levels in tanks that can be used
under a wide range of conditions.
Depending on requirements, these probes
provide fully autonomous operation or
they can be used with an integrated data
logger, wireless transmission (GSM), an
ambient pressure-compensating capillary
or a separate absolute pressure sensor;
additional options include integrated
temperature measurement, etc. Depending
on the sounding tube, probe diameters of
16 mm and 18 mm up to 22 mm are
available. Thanks to its diameter of
only 16 mm, the DCX-16 can be used in
locations where every millimeter counts
(e.g. for sounding tubes with small
diameters). The pressure sensor is
welded into the logger housing. Type
DCX-16, which is screwed in position and
is fully watertight, operates as an
autonomous battery-powered data
collector with an absolute pressure
sensor. In shallow water, a second
logger (barometer) can be used for
separate recording of the barometric
pressure on the surface. The
differential pressure and/or the filling
level are then calculated in the PC by
subtraction of the time-stamped
measurement data from the individual
loggers. Version DCX-16 SG/VG provides a
cable connection, wherein barometric
pressure is fed to the sensor ... |

New reverse assembly option for LBFS frequency-sweep level switch |
| |
| The
new standard version of
Baumer’s LBFS level
switch is made from AISI 304 or
316 stainless steel and comes
with a PEEK sensor tip. In
addition to this, Baumer now
provides the LBFS with special
G½ process connections for
reverse assembly. These options
broaden the field of possible
applications of the LBFS. Based
on the novel frequency-sweep
technology, the level switch is
suitable for measuring the
levels of viscous or dry
substances as well as liquids
with a repeatability and
hysteresis of ± 1 mm and a
typical response time of 0.2
seconds. As the LBFS is
unaffected by flow, turbulence,
bubbles, foam, and suspended
solids, it is particularly
suitable for level detection in
processes generating those. The
new G½ connection for the LBFS
allows for two types of reverse
assembly. The first makes it
possible to mount the level
switch from the inside of a tank
using the included fibre gasket
and a G½ nut. Fields of
application include low level
and leakage detection in tanks
for oil or cooling fluid used in
pneumatic systems ... |

Level Control Measurement in Water and Wastewater treatment |
| |
| Pepperl+Fuchs
provide a various range of level control sensors
for the limit detection and the continuous
measurement for applications in water and
wastewater industry. Float switches LFL: Float
switches are used for simple limit value
recording in liquids. The greater density of the
liquid means that the switch floats on the
surface of the medium. The float switch is fixed
with its cable securing element at a level
adapted to suit the process. Tilting motion
during rising and falling of the float triggers
the switching procedure. Proximity sensors and
micro switches are used as switching elements.
The LFL float switch series is used as limit
value switches in the form of a sphere or
sleeve. LFL thus represents an inexpensive
solution for detecting limit levels and
signaling leaks to the connected monitoring
system. Vibration limit switch LVL: The
piezoelectric-agitated oscillation of a
vibrating fork is dampened if it comes into
contact with the filling medium. Electronics
generate the switching signal on the basis of
these changes. ... |

Groundbreaking new level sensor launched by ifm electronic |
| |
| ifm
electronic gmbh: In the food industry foam and
deposits often make a reliable level detection
difficult. With the LMT hygienic
point level sensor from ifm electronic they can be
suppressed. This means that the LMT sensor can reliably
provide full or empty signals of tanks and ensure
run-dry protection of pumps. With no moving parts and a
smooth surface (the surface characteristics of the PEEK
tip of the sensor is Ra < 0.8 µ) it is virtually
impossible for residues to stick to it or clog the
sensor. Even with viscous and sticky media such as
ketchup the LMT point level sensor operates reliably.
Factory setting to one of two road categories of fluid
types eliminates the need for local adjustment. The
right version is selected from an extensive list of
fluids. Using high quality materials such as 316L
stainless steel and PEEK the sensor meets all
requirements of hygienic ... |

Guided-wave level probe from ifm electonic detects more fluids and
ignores foam |
| |
| Characterised
by flexible and easy installation the updated
efector gwr microwave sensor from sensor market
leader ifm electronic. The new
units are distinguished by better performance
and extended application possibilities.
Advantages of the microwave radar system lie in
its ability to ignore residues of sticky
material that might build up on the probe and
give a false level. This feature also ignores
foam and sees the true level. The solid-state
principle avoids mechanical issues with floats
that stick. The three new versions of the
tried-and-tested level sensor can now be used in
aqueous media, coolants and cleaning solutions
or oils. This makes them suitable for continuous
level monitoring of almost all liquids. ifm
electronic offers the efector gwr with two
(order no. LR700s) or four (order no. LR8000)
switching outputs or with switching and analogue
output (order no. LR3000). The modular sensor
system consists of the sensing head, the probe
and optionally the coaxial tube. Microwave
pulses are transmitted by the sensor head and
guided along the probe. If the microwave pulse
hits the medium, it is reflected and evaluated
by the sensor. The sensor is installed in the
tank using a process ... |

UPK ultrasonic sensors used in vegetable cleaning process |
| |
| SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Fresh vegetables from the
field must be cleaned quickly in large quantities,
packaged and transported to the supermarket. At first a
lot of dirt sticks on the carrots. They are cleaned in
water baths and then brushed clean with mechanical
rotational brushes. They are then weighed accurately and
packed in plastic bags. Compact ultrasonic sensors of
the UPK series from SNT Sensortechnik AG are used here
for two purposes. First, the level of the water bath is
controlled by a sensor. Before the brushing machine two
UPK sensors are mounted with synchronization. They
measure the level of the feed hopper and control the
conveyor belt in a way that the brushing machine is
always properly loaded. The environment is very rough. A
lot of water, soil and carrot skin is splashing around.
The UPK sensors are IP67 waterproof and mechanically
very robust. They work even with heavily polluted
diaphragm. SNT Sensortechnik AG is a specialist in
ultrasonic sensors for more than 20 years. ... |

RLI Shaker – Rotary Level
Indicator |
| |
|
4B
BRAIME Components LTD: The RLI “Shaker” rotary paddle switch
is used to detect high / low levels of bulk granular solids in
bins, tanks and silos. It can also be used to detect plug
conditions in spouts, where long life and failsafe detection is
required. Utilizing a unique stepper motor drive, the RLI
“Shaker” rotates clockwise, then counter-clockwise and then
shakes to shed any excess material build up. If the paddle
rotation is impeded at any time by the bulk material then the
electronic circuit provides a signal for level indication or
control. The RLI “Shaker” uses fewer mechanical parts compared
with standard rotary level indicators. No gearbox or clutch is
required as the stepper motor drive is directly coupled to the
output shaft and is practically indestructible and cannot be
damaged by forced or backwards rotation. Also, an adjustable
torque control allows ... |

Capacitive fill level sensor for soiled
media |
| |
|
Baumer’s
new CFAK 12 capacitive fill level sensor detects conductive liquids
while suppressing dirt particles and detergent residues. When detecting
fill levels in soiled media, conventional capacitive sensors are
susceptible to suspended solids that influence their switching behavior
in a negative manner. The new CFAK 12 is the smart remedy for these
applications. Incorporated into a grounded metal basin it monitors the
fill levels of water and water-based fluids. Thanks to its special
housing design and the plane plastic surface, dirt particles hardly
adhere to the sensor. Therefore, the cleaning effort is drastically
reduced compared to conventional solutions. Even if dirt should adhere
to the sensor the integrated compensating electrode makes sure that it
is suppressed and the fill level is still detected precisely.
Additionally, the capacitive sensor is extremely resistant to detergents
and suppresses their residues reliably. Amongst others, the capacitive
fill level sensor is applied in railway lavatories ... |

Smart Alternative to Vibrating Fork Level
Switches |
| |
|
With
the level switch LBFS, Baumer offers a cost-efficient and
reliable alternative to widely-used vibration level switches. The device
is able to detect the level of viscous or dry substances as well as
liquids and can be mounted in any position in tanks or pipelines. The
sensor is unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, and suspended
solids. As the sensor head is smooth and very small, even adhesive media
do not stick to it. The sensor’s short response time enables fast
filling processes as well as an accurate and reliable keeping of levels.
The level switch detects high and low levels in tanks and pipelines.
Furthermore, it can be used for overfill protection, dry running
protection of pumps and phase separation in oil-water mixtures. There
are many fields of applications: drinking water, wastewater, filtration,
HVAC, hydraulics, oil and gas, bio energy, wood pellets, flour mills,
railway transportation or pump systems. The sensor is mounted in a
compact, very robust, and corrosion-resistant stainless steel housing. ... |

Reliably detecting water – with MICROmote®
optical sensors from STM |
| |
|
STM
Sensor Technologie München GmbH: Clear liquids such as water cannot
be detected by optical means in transparent pipes or containers without
further ado. It gets especially difficult if the pipe diameter is very
small or if the containers are only semi-transparent. When using optical
sensors for detection of water levels, the effects of light transmission
and refraction in water can interfere with one another to such an extent
that measurements are actually reversed, especially in the interaction
with the container walls. To solve this problem, the through beam
sensors of the MICROmote® “JJ” series were developed by STM. The
transmitters work in the upper infrared range. In the absorption
spectrum of water there is at this point a maximum and the light of this
wavelength is absorbed by the individual molecules. Water thus becomes
“non-transparent” for the optical system and detection is drastically
simplified. Depending on the size of the sensor or the effective
diameter of the beam, level detection can be attained with particular
precision. ... |

Level Detection Based on Frequency Sweep
Technology |
| |
|
With
the FlexLevel Switch 4101 Baumer presents a new sensor which is
based on frequency sweep technology. The device detects the level of
liquids, viscous fluids and dry media. Due to the smooth, very small
sensor head even adhesive media don’t stick whereby the adhesion error
is very low. The level switch is suitable for overfill protection, low
level detection, dry running protection and phase separation. It can be
installed in any position and even at points difficult to access. The
FlexLevel Switch 4101 can be easily configured on PC via the
FlexProgrammer 9701. A frequency is swept by the transmitter and becomes
subject to a phase shift depending on the media. When in contact with
the media having a different dielectric constant (DC) outside the
selected DC range, an electronic switch is triggered. The high
sensitivity over a large sensing range from DC 1.5 up to more than 100
allows the level detection of all kinds of powders, granulates and
liquids. Even difficult substances like polyamide granulate or paper can
be detected reliably. Thanks to the teach-in function, the switching
point is adjustable even for sticky media. ... |

treatment applications have to be extremely robust. First of all, this
concerns the materials used in instruments that are in contact with
aggressive or corrosive media in applications such as desalination
plants or sewage sludge processing. In addition, the devices have to be
highly resistant against vibrations which are generated continuously for
example in applications with volumetric pumps. Further challenges are
the formation of foam, suspended solids, and condensation in tanks. For
these challenges, Baumer offers an extensive portfolio of pressure and

UPS 150 FB Series: Level measurement in
cavities with only 4mm diameter |

SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Our UPS miniature ultrasonic sensors had a very
successful sales performance in 2008. Many industrial applications can
be solved with the standard model UPS 200, where optical, inductive or
capacitive sensors might have problems with detection. Furthermore with
the UPS sensors with analogue output a precise distance or level
measurement can be realized, with a precision of approx. 0.3mm. The
special version “FOCUS Beam” has been particularly successful in various
applications. It proved its advantage in the detection through very
narrow openings. Since the FOCUS Beam does not have any disadvantageous
blind range, one can place it very close (few millimeters only) to the
opening of a cavity. There the beam is only 3mm wide in diameter. This
allowed e.g. to measure the level in only 4mm wide honey comb shape
cavities as used in medical laboratory applications (see left picture
below) with an accuracy of only few 1/10mm. Of course such measurement
needs a precise alignment of the sensor axis and the cavity to be
measured. On the right side below the comparison of detection beams of
UPS 200 (standard sensor) vs. UPS 150 FB (FOCUS Beam sensor) is shown. ... |

BERTHOLD
Technologies: In the area of radiometric measurement technology the
trend is heading towards lowest possible source activities. Berthold
Technologies is pioneering these developments. With its state of the art
Super-Sens, the company provides the worldwide most sensitive
radiometric detector for measuring point level, continuous level and
density, setting new standards in source limitations. Compared to common
detectors, the source activity can be reduced by 70-95% when using the
Super-Sens detector. As an example the density measurement on a dredging
application can be taken, where a source activity of 185 GBq was
required in the past to solve the measurement task. By switching to
Super-Sens technique, the source size in this application was reduced to
5.5 GBq, which is equivalent to a factor of 34. The Super-Sens is
primarily used when vessels or pipelines with large diameter or high
wall thicknesses have to be penetrated. Furthermore, the Super-Sens is

With
its comprehensive sensor technologies portfolio for laboratory
automation, Baumer offers sensors for presence detection,
position verification, level measurement, or object and code
identification. Test tubes and microwell plates are often tagged with
encoding, such as bar codes. Baumer Smart Vision solutions allow for
different encoding types to be detected safely and also offer a
character recognition function (OCR). The code identification can be
combined with a crosscheck against other relevant specifications. This
feature increases the efficiency by allowing several inspection tasks to
be easily and flexibly performed in one step. When working with
microwell plates, highest precision is everything. The new Series 09
ultrasonic sensors conduct non-contact and cross-contamination-free
liquid level sensing in microwell plates with an accuracy of a

sensors with suitable output signals. The cylindrical design of the
GSM-2 with a diameter of just 48 mm has been chosen so that the data
logger, which ”selfdials” in accordance with user requirements, can
simply be placed in the top of a normal 2-inch diameter sounding pipe
that is used in groundwater measuring equipment. Installation takes a
matter of seconds. The housing is designed to withstand condensation and
being under water for short periods. The GSM antenna is covered with a
lockable covering cap made from solid plastic. The data logger is
therefore protected from theft and vandalism when level measurements ... |

Three new versions of Level Sensor Series
LS03 |
| |
|
MEDER
electronic AG: Three new versions of Level Sensor Series LS03 have
been introduced into the market to meet the wider demands of our
customers for special applications. These new versions are LS03 DL, GZ
and GK. The code DL stands for “Dichtung Lang” (German) meaning “long
sealing gasket”); GZ for “Gewinde Kurz” (German) meaning “short thread”;
and GZ for “Gewinde Zoll” meaning “Thread in Inches”. Different market
norms or usage customs have been also taken into consideration to
develop these three new versions. GZ Series has a thread that is usually
used in American market that even no sealing is necessary, therefore,
the cost is lower; DL Series has the norm more for European market and
suitable for low pressure and thin container walls, while the DK Series
is more robust in construction for a higher resistance against filling
pressures (up to at least 10bar). The new
level sensors of LS03 are
made respectively of PP or PA, or both. Under normal situations, level
sensors from the standard LS03 series are mounted inside the liquid
container to detecting the changes of liquid levels, but with more and
more sophisticated and ... |

New Capacitive Sensor Technology Allows
for Continuous and Contact-Free Level Measurement |
| |
|
Sensortechnics’
CLC series uses a new contact-free capacitive sensor technology to
continuously measure the fill level of liquids as well as granular or
pulverized materials. The miniature sensor can be easily mounted to the
outside of a container or vessel and is able to measure through almost
any non-metallic wall material. The level sensing range of the standard
device is up to 10 cm which can be enlarged in special multi-sensor
configurations. The non-invasive design, with no contact between the
sensor and the fluid, eliminates all media compatibility and sterility
issues. The device is highly flexible and the user can easily calibrate
the sensor to measure to the desired levels, media and application
set-up. The CLC series achieves a very high accuracy and reliability due
to an additional reference electrode which compensates for all changes
in ambient environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. As
an optional safety feature the sensor can be supplied with an extra
sensing pad to detect if a container is actually present or not. The CLC
sensor offers an analog voltage output as well as a digital interface.
Sensortechnics can also provide modifications of its capacitive level

Series DCX 16 Level Probes - Autonomous
Data Collectors with Ø 16 mm |
| |
|
KELLER
AG:
Level measurement: 1.5 billion people around the globe have no access to clean
water. Managing water as a resource is therefore the challenge of the
21st century. A significant part of the world’s water resources is
located underground. Large areas are surveyed using
pressure sensors to
monitor changes in the water level in relation to usage as well as
rainfall. These sensors are inserted in wells up to 200 m in depth. The
major share of the cost of a measuring point is caused by the drilling
operation and the pipe inserted into the earth. Until now, pipes with an
inner diameter of 1 inch (2,54 cm) were mainly used, required by 22 mm
diameter sensors. KELLER’s new DCX-16 features a Ø 16 mm diameter
without compromising exactness, enabling much lower ... |

Photoelectric Sensors - Level measurement
on standpipes |
| |
|
Baumer
Electric: User-friendly level measurement? Baumer’s new level
sensors are convincingly easy to handle. They can be mounted without
difficulty on a standpipe or a tube using the included cable tie. The
diameter of the (half) transparent standpipe on which the sensor can be
mounted can vary from 3 to 13 mm. Once they have been secured, no
further adjustments have to be made on the FFDK 16 as all required
circuitry is built in. However, a switch for dark or light switching
(D/L) is in place. In the optical fiber version, the fibers are arranged
in rows. This allows the sensor to suppress foam or air bubbles of up to
3 mm in size. Foam especially emerges often, and so far it has led to
many measurement errors with optical level measurement systems. Thanks
to the PFI material used, the sensor is also resistant to chemicals.
Another advantage of the optical fiber version ... |

The SENSation for radiometric Measurement
Systems |
| |
|
On
the 60th anniversary of the company, Berthold Technologies is
launching the new detector generation SENSeries to the market and is
setting new standards in the radiometric process control. The SENS-Detectors
stand out by their unique and extreme high sensitivity to gamma
radiation. New measurement accuracies can be achieved, well above those
possible with radiometric systems to date. The extremely high
sensitivity also means that existing sources can be used for a longer
period. Instead of an expensive source exchange, the life of the
existing sources can be extended by many years, or even decades, by
using a new SENS-detector. Moreover, in new projects the high
sensitivity results in a considerably high reduction of source activity.
Depending on the application, the source activity can be reduced by up
to 80%, to some extend even under the applicable activity underlying
authorisation obligation. These characteristics are guaranteed by a
patented process throughout the complete field of application and the
total service-life. The SENSseries offers a suitable detector solution
for each and every application. For the radiometric detection of
density, concentration or level switch, the CrystalSENS detector can be
used. In addition, rod detectors UniSENS and – for especially large
measuring ranges - TowerSENS are available for continuous level
measurements too. ... |

Ultrasonic Sensors - When a µ-liter makes
the difference |
| |
|
Baumer
Electric: In lab automation small containers such as microwell
plates or test tubes are used in analytical processes of liquids. Since
the liquids to be analyzed are often available in limited quantities
only, this market has been confronted with an ever increasing demand for
highly precise level measurement. Baumer is now responding to this
challenge with the new Series 09 ultrasonic sensors. They are capable of
measuring into wells with as little as 3,3 mm opening diameter,
providing a 0,1 mm resolution. This performance converted to a type 384
microplate results in a resolution of 1,09 microliters. Thus, the loss
of liquid can be kept within very tight limits. Additionally, the
measurement allows the detection of flaws at an early stage of the
analyzing process, which keeps the general process quality at a high
level. Efficiency concerning scanning speed is a further highlight of
the Series 09 sensors. Thanks to a housing width of less than 9 mm,
eight sensors arranged in-line are capable of scanning a type 96
microwell plate in one single cycle. The short response of as little as
seven milliseconds allows fast scanning rates, which in turn lead to
minimal process times. The benefit are a maximum of process quality at a
minimum loss of time. The range of applications for the new ultrasonic
sensors is far larger than the described liquid level measurement in ... |

JUMO temperature and level sensor for
commercial verhicles, construction and agricultural machinery |
| |
|
JUMO:
To keep an engine or gears in optimum working order, numerous parameters
have to be continuously monitored, with corrective intervention should
there be any deviation. Two of these parameters are the oil level and
the oil temperature. The combined temperature and level sensor aids
vehicle diagnostics in modern commercial vehicles, construction
machinery and agricultural machinery. With this level sensor, which uses
the hot-wire principle, it is possible to determine the level of the
gear oil or engine oil in a 150 mm measurement section. Only by
monitoring the level of the liquid can we be certain that the engine is
not running with too much oil, or that, unobserved, the level has
dropped to too little. Engine damage is avoided. The level sensor is
also available with an additional temperature sensor. The temperature
sensor is designed with a Pt1000 shunt resistor conforming to EN 60751,
Class B, in a 2-wire circuit. But Pt100 and Pt500 sensors, as well as
NTC and semiconductor sensors, are also possible. The hot-wire voltage
signal and the temperature sensor resistance signal are forwarded
separately to the vehicle electronics for evaluation. The JUMO
temperature and level sensor is designed for continuous operation at a
temperature ... |

KROHNE presents innovative solutions for
energy measurement at INTERKAMA |
| |
|
KROHNE:
The energy market remains a growth market: Due to the increasing need
for power, there are currently more than 230 new power plants either
under construction or planned worldwide. According to estimates, more
than 800 billion Euros will be spent annually in the power plant
business until 2030. This includes not only new constructions but also
renovations of existing power plants. Measuring technology plays an
important role here: the deciding factor when it comes to the efficiency
of a power plant is the accuracy of the measurements. The more accurate
the measurements, the more efficient the power plant. That translates
into increased profit for the operator. Many countries continue to rely
on nuclear technology to safeguard their future power requirements. For
new constructions and the overhauling of existing plants, KROHNE offers
high temperature ultrasonic measuring devices, variable area flowmeter
and level meters which can be used in steam and water circuits. As the
only manufacturer of measuremnt technology in Germany, KROHNE has all of
the important approvals for the instrumentation of nuclear power plants:

Capacitive Sensors - Aggressive media
safely detected |
| |
|
Baumer
Electric: In quite a number of fill level applications there are
liquids to be detected which require sensor housings and media
containers to be made of materials of strongly improved properties due
to their chemical reactivity. The new Baumer capacitive sensors provide
interesting new approaches to many of these challenging cases. Since the
sensors' electrical field of detection is capable of penetrating through
insulating materials such as plastics, glass, cardboard etc., non
invasive detection of both liquids and solid matter is possible from the
outside. Capacitive sensors can therefore monitor fill levels in closed
containers whilst being attached to the outside container wall. Compared
to sensing methods requiring direct contact with matter, there are a
number of advantages. On one hand, this approach provides an excellent
protection for the sensor itself, which assures a long live expectancy
as well as a high degree of process safety. On the other hand, the
medium to be detected or monitored cannot be contaminated by the
sensor’s housing. The detection behaviour of capacitive sensors is
influenced by the dielectric constant of the surrounding materials.
Certain limitations apply when detecting liquids and objects exhibiting
a low dielectric constant using the existing, flush-mounted capacitive
sensors ... |

Filling Contents in Tanks - Accurate,
digital, battery powered, waterproof |
| |
|
Under
the name of Castello, Keller AG has introduced a flexible,
modular system for the accurate indication of the content of a liquid in
a tank. Castello offers a user-friendly way to represent the pressure
measurement at the bottom of a tank as the quantity of remaining liquid.
At the push of a button, the microprocessor performs the calculations
using the information of the tank shape and dimensions and displays the
remaining tank content quantity on the clearly legible 5-digit LED
display in the desired unit (litres, gallons etc.). The easy to use
software to configure Castello is free of charge. It contains the most
current tank shapes. Other tank shapes can be easily integrated at the
factory. The exclusive use of absolute pressure sensors in the Castello
system eliminates the use of capillary vented cables with all the
problems associated with a gauge pressure measurement. The Castello
enclosure integrates an air pressure sensor, ranged between 0,8 bar and
1,3 bar absolute. The sensors to measure the hydrostatic pressure at the
bottom of the tank are calibrated from 0,8 to 1,8 bar abs for tanks up
to 5 m in height, and 0,8 to 2,3 bar abs for tanks up to 10 m in height.
The pressure difference, calculated by the μP, is the relative
hydrostatic pressure. ... |
