P500 inductive Rotary Sensor for angles up to 160°, also as ATEX Version

P500 inductive Rotary SensorPEWATRON AG: The P500 RIPS® (Rotary Inductive Position Sensor) is a durable, affordable, high accuracy rotary sensor designed for industrial and scientific feedback applications. The P500 is supplied with the output calibrated to the angle required by the customer, between 20 and 160 degrees. The sensor provides a linear output proportional with angle of rotation, with a non-linearity at 100° better than 0.25°. There is a machined registration mark to identify the calibrated mid point. The standard version is powered with 5 V, giving an output signal of 0.5…4.5 V. Optionally, there are several output stages available for signals 0.5…9.5 V, ±5 V, ±10 V or 4...20 mA (2- or 3-wires), which are powered by ±15 VDC or 24 VDC typically. The temperature range is -40/+125 °C for the standard version (5 V, unbuffered) and -20°/+85 °C for the buffered versions. The P500 has a rugged stainless steel body and shaft for long service life and environmental resistance. The sensor is easy to install with flange or servo mounting option in anodized aluminium (or stainless steel for the E500). Sealing is IP 67 (cable version) or IP 65 (connector version), and full EMC protection is built in. The sensor is also available in intrisincally safe versions, designed to be used with a galvanically isolated 3-port barrier installed in the safe area which supplies the sensor with 5 V ...

Stainless steel IP 69K full metal housings – DuroProx inductive sensors

DuroProx inductive sensorsBaumer: The DuroProx inductive sensors are tough enough to take it. The sensor family comprises inductive sensors with IP 69K protection class full metal housings that were designed from the outset for use in harsh and demanding industrial applications. Thanks to an operating temperature range of -25 °C to +100 °C and a housing made of V4A/316L stainless steel, these sensors can be employed in on- and offshore wind energy applications fors tasks such as monitoring of disc brake pads, rotor speed and position feedback as well as in any other environments subject to extreme contamination levels. They are even able to withstand environments subject to high EMI levels without damage. The necessary protection is provided not only by the full metal housing with an active surface made of stainless steel, but also increased interference resistance in accordance with EN 61000-6-2. The sensors are available in extremley compact designs from 6.5 mm housings to larger M8, M12 or M18 versions. The sensing distance ranges from 2 to 6 mm. An ASIC was employed in the design of the inductive sensors ...

Inductive sensor in M12 housing measures in nanometer range

Inductive sensor in M12 housing measures in nanometer rangeBaumer’s new inductive sensor IPRM 12 measures with a resolution of up to 50 nm, which is to date unmatched in its class. All of the necessary electronics are integrated in its M12 housing. At the same time, it is one of the fastest sensors in its class with a measuring speed of 1 mm/s. With these performance characteristics the compact sensor is a compelling alternative to complex measuring systems. In contrast to these systems, the IPRM 12 does not need any external amplifier or expensive coaxial cables. The 90 mm short M12 housing holds measuring head, signal evaluation and amplification as well as the analog output circuit. Since the 0 … 20 mA current output is compatible with standard analog-cards and cables, no additional interface costs arise. High measuring precision concurrent with high measuring speed normally requires extended external hardware complexity and comptuing time. Thanks to the integrated electronics, this is not necessary when using the IPRM 12. The sensor’s sophisticated switching allows it to remain temperature stable, even without any external temperature compensating devices. ...

Tyco Electronics Reluctance Resolvers for Hybrid Applications

Tyco Electronics: New emission legislation and the trend towards energy efficient transportation support an increased development in the area of hybrid propulsion for passenger cars. One of the key applications for improved fuel economy in the hybrid market is the recovery and storage of energy during the braking phase or regenerative braking. When braking, the energy of the moving car is converted and stored in the Li-ion batteries instead of being dissipated through the heating of braking disks. Upon acceleration of the car, the available electrical energy is used to help the car speed up by releasing this energy into a controlled electrical motor. More advanced systems may continuously propel the cars’ electrical motors. In order to keep the efficiency of the electrical hybrid motors at a maximum level, the position of the drive shaft must be continuously monitored. Tyco Electronics has developed a break-though inductive sensor, known as a “Reluctance Resolver,” that can help support reduced fuel consumption with in these new hybrid propulsion systems. The Reluctance Resolver is part of a system to measure shaft angles.  ...

Balluff has expanded their proven product line of high pressure rated inductive sensors in M12 and M18 housings to include miniaturized form factors. Ideal applications for these 350 bar rated miniature sensors in M8 and M5 housings include industrial and mobile hydraulics as well as valve technology. The new, miniaturized sensors, which are currently offered only by Balluff, open up a variety of new application possibilities for the user. Their compact size is ideal in miniaturized power units and valves as well as hydraulic block cylinders as used for example to actuate slides on injection molding machines. The IP68 rated housing of these flush-mountable sensors is made of stainless steel, with a ceramic sensing surface. The sealing design is the same as for their tried-and-true M12 and M18 bigger brothers: here also a clever O-ring and support ring combination ensures high pressure resistance. The new sensors, which offer a maximum switching frequency ...

Tightly packed distance measurement

Baumer Electric: Often there is only very limited space available for sensors and actuators in apparatuses and mobile devices. The new distance measuring Series IWFM 08 inductive sensors address exactly these applications. With their compact outer dimension of only 4.7 x 8 x 16 mm they fit into the tiniest slots. Thanks to the integrated 0… 10 V output, the sensor can be connected directly to the analog inputs of a control system, without using a measuring board or processing unit. The resulting reduction of hardware and installation costs are obvious. Another attribute that characterizes the IWFM 08 is its robustness. The metal housing prevents damage during installation or operations to a large extent, which positively influences the maintenance costs in the long term. Due to the high linearity and repeat accuracy, the IWFM 08 records linear movements of up to 2 mm with high precision. The described characteristics have already proved to be of value with existing Baumer sensors used in robotic grippers, operating ...

IO-Link sensors - innovation with true value added!

Baumer Electric: IO-Link is the new standard in the lower communication layer supported by leading automation and sensor manufacturers. An IO-Link sensor transmits standard digital or analog output signals and provides an additional serial data communication with the control unit as master to exchange parameters such as the measuring range, sensitivity, time delay and operating mode. Because the serial data transmission needs no additional wires and the output signals are compatible, it is possible to use standard cables and connectors and combine or mix IO-Link devices and standard devices. This advantage simplifies the entry, realization and use of this new and easy technology. Baumer offers now an expanded range of IO-Link products. From the smallest optical switches up to ultrasonic and inductive distance sensors, a wide variety of technologies and devices is available. ...
