| Inductive switches
in new cubic designs |
| |
The
new IS 240 and IS 244 sensor variants from
Leuze electronic impress in
particular with their wide scanning ranges and
very simple mounting and alignment. With the IS
240 and IS 244 inductive switches, Leuze
electronic is extending its extensive product
line to include designs with cubic housings that
are preferred for use in particular in
intralogistics applications. The sensors can be
flexibly mounted and, with a sensor field that
can be oriented in five directions, they offer
exceptionally easy alignment. A very wide range
of detection applications can thus be performed
quickly and easily. Of particular note are the
comparatively wide scanning ranges. The flat IS
240 sensors offer highly reliable detection
behavior up to 8.0 mm, the IS 244 designs up to
40.0 mm. The quadratic IS 244 sensors are
characterized furthermore by the short length of
the housing. The M12 standard connection and the
use of ready-made cables enable the sensors to
be quickly and faultlessly connected ... |

| Sensors for the food
industry, The challenge of perfection |
| |
Pepperl+Fuchs
now manufactures sensors for the food industry
that more than satisfy the demanding requirements for
cleanliness and hygiene in this sector – in three
different technologies. Ultrasonic, inductive and
optical sensors. All machines that process food have
areas that pose different levels of contamination risk:
the product-contact area, the splash area and the
product-free area. Pepperl+Fuchs has categorized these
areas into zones and assigned sensor properties to each
zone. Zone A, B and C. Zone A requires the highest
standards of hygiene and so Pepperl+Fuchs has developed
the UMC3000
ultrasonic sensor, which is the first proximity
sensor that can detect objects directly. The UMC3000 is
manufactured entirely from FDA approved materials and
designed according to EHEDG guidelines. IP69K protection
for extreme thermal shocks is essential in harsh
applications. The MLE76 optical sensor is chemically
resistant to cleaning agents and offers IP69K protection
in spite of the tough ambient conditions in the food
industry. The gap-free enclosure and extremely smooth
stainless steel surface satisfy cleanliness requirements
outlined in EHEDG guidelines. Inductive sensors

| Inductive M12 sensor
measures contact-free with 4 nanometer resolution |
| |
The
resolution of Baumer’s IPRM 12
inductive sensor has been significantly improved. The
sensor now measures with a resoution of up to 4 nm,
which is to date unmatched in its class. With this
performance it constitutes the ideal solution for
monitoring concentricity and vibration of shafts or high
precision measurements of manufacturing tolerances and
deflections of shafts, leaf springs or levers. All of
the necessary electronics are integrated in its 90 mm
short M12 housing. Compared to measuring systems with
external evaluation unit this reduces acquisition costs
and guarantees an easy integration into compact
machines. At the same time, the sensor is one of the
fastest sensors in its class with a measuring speed of 1
mm/s. The IPRM 12 serves as a contact-free measuring
system, which does not leave scratches or pressure
points on delicate finished products. With its high
performance the sensor is a compelling alternative to
complex measuring systems. The high linearity as well as
temperature stability allow high precision measurements

Magnetic proximity switches – long range and
maintenance-free |
| |
Baumer
expands its magnetic sensor portfolio with three new families of
magnetic proximity switches. This new product group detects
magnetic fields over a large distance, depending on the
permanent magnet up to 60 mm and even through metal walls. The
housings of the new magnetic proximity switches MFxM are very
compact and rectangular or standard M8. To some extent they are
identical to standard inductive sensors. As a result, an easy
replacement is possible when larger sensing distances are
required or metal parts influence the inductive sensor’s
detection. The large sensing range can provide increased
tolerances, thus compensating a rocking motion of the object to
be detected. Since the magnetic sensors only detect magnetic
fields, they can be applied without problems when metal is in
front of their sensing faces. Therefore, the sensor can detect
through walls of non-ferromagnetic material. ... |

Series IFRR and IWRR inductive sensors. The sensors are extremely
robust, absolutely reliable and, due to a large operating temperature
range, suitable for onshore as well as for offshore applications. The
series includes digital and analog measuring sensors. All versions of
the inductive sensors are designed for an operating temperature range of
-40 to +80 °C, which also qualifies them for cold climate applications.
For the use in offshore wind power plants the compact sensors are
available in V4A stainless steel housings with protection class IP 69 K,
the housing of the onshore versions is made of nickel-plated brass with
protection class IP 67. The proTect+ impermeability concept guarantees
the sensors’ tighness under IP 69K conditions and additionally under
changing temperature conditions. Thus, their reliable operation can be
guaranteed even after many day/night cycles. Due to the extraordinary
impermeability, the sensors are especially low-maintenance and their
MTTF is > 100 years. Additionally, the high sensing distance of up to 12
mm provides for an easy, quick and flexible installation into the plant.
Digital inductive sensors are mainly used to detect the nacelle position
and the rotor speed. Measuring sensors are applied for monitoring the
brakes and the shaft deflection. ... |

High pressure-resistant inductive sensors monitor the locking cylinders
in wind power plants |
| |
|
Baumer
introduces its high pressure-resistant Series IFRP inductive sensors as
a reliable solution for monitoring the end position of locking cylinders
or hydraulical pitch systems. The inductive sensors can be used under
extreme conditions with a pressure of up to 500 bar. This is possible
thanks to the special design of the sensor head, which prevents the
ceramic sensor face from being pressed into the sensor. Particularly for
the use in harsh environments, the housing is also made of stainless
steel and complying with protection class IP 68. Thanks to the materials
used, the inductive sensor IFRP is extremely resistant against hydraulic
oils. Depending on the application, four sensor versions of different
sizes are available. In wind power plants the sensors are used, amongst
others, to monitor the piston position of the locking cylinders. ... |

Photoelectric and inductive sensors in hygienic design |
| |
|
Particularly
for applications in the food and beverage industry Baumer
launches photoelectric and inductive sensors in hygienic and washdown
design. The new inductive sensors with their plane, groove-free V4A stainless
steel housings as well as the mounting accessories are EHEDG-certified,
Ecolab-approved, and the materials are FDA-compliant. Along with the
range of EHEDG-certified reflectors and Ecolab-approved cables with
protection class IP 69K, Baumer consequently offers a complete solution
for position detection in the food zone. For applications in the splash
zone Baumer offers adequate inductive sensors with washdown design. These
inductive sensors
are as resistant against detergents and high-pressure splash water as
those in hygienic design, but they are mounted conventionally. With the
specifically developed impermeability concept proTect+ Baumer guarantees
a higher sensor performance and life-time. For this purpose the
inductive sensors
are exposed to continuously changing temperature cycles in addition to
the IP 68 and IP 69K impermeability tests. With this special endurance
test an outstanding high process reliability is guaranteed and the
maintenance effort is reduced. A highlight among the new products is the
photoelectric sensor FNDH 14. This SmartReflect background-reflective
sensor can use existing stainless steel machine parts as a reflector.
Forgoing an additional reflector results in an easier installation and
reduced maintenance effort. The inductive sensors ... |

Inductive angular positioning system designed for heavy machine
construction |
| |
|
Pepperl+Fuchs:
Inductive sensor systems are characterized by their exceptional
robustness and resistance to dirt, oil, grease and humidity under
difficult ambient conditions. The fact that even large solar and wind
power plants as well as marine engineering and port systems technology
can benefit from these advantages provides an interesting insight into
how the inductive measuring system has developed. The system was
designed for measuring angular positions on rotary joints and slewing
bearings with diameters ranging from half a meter to approximately four
meters. The Position Coding System (PCI) is an inductive angular
positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs that is a further development of
the PMI series manufactured by the same company. Numerous
coil/oscillating circuit systems positioned closely beside one another
use an intelligent microcontroller control interface to measure the
position of metal target elements (Fig. 2) with a high degree of
precision and form the basis of both series. Current systems are only
capable of detecting one metal target object that moves along a linear
or circular trajectory depending on the sensor type. ... |

Baumer expands its portfolio of IO-Link sensors |
| |
|
Baumer:
Nowadays, users look for an increasingly simple operation of their
machines. Additionally, requests for a maximized machine performance and
minimized down time are made. Baumer meets these customer requirements
with expanding ist existing portfolio of IO-Link sensors. Already in
2007, Baumer fittet their first sensor with the communications standard
IO-Link, the smallest photoelectric sensor with background suppression
FHDK 04. Next to the red light distance sensor FADK 14 a communication
between sensor and control via IO-Link is also possible in the new
Series 09 ultrasonic sensor since the beginning of this year. Thanks to
the bi-directional communication between control and sensor/actuator,
parameterization is facilitated considerably and can be effected during
the process. Additionally, it is possible to avoid machine down time due
to error diagnosis or early detection. Remote parameterization and
diagnostics via online communication are realistic for the future. Thus,
Baumer pushes the establishment of IO-Link and develops additional
IO-Link products in all sensor technologies. E.g. the inductive sensor
IWRM 12 will soon be available with the communications standard ... |

Baumer’s
new inductive sensor IPRM 12 measures with a resolution of up to 50 nm,
which is to date unmatched in its class. All of the necessary
electronics are integrated in its M12 housing. At the same time, it is
one of the fastest sensors in its class with a measuring speed of 1
mm/s. With these performance characteristics the compact sensor is a
compelling alternative to complex measuring systems. In contrast to
these systems, the IPRM 12 does not need any external amplifier or
expensive coaxial cables. The 90 mm short M12 housing holds measuring
head, signal evaluation and amplification as well as the analog output
circuit. Since the 0 … 20 mA current output is compatible with standard
analog-cards and cables, no additional interface costs arise. High
measuring precision concurrent with high measuring speed normally
requires extended external hardware complexity and comptuing time.
Thanks to the integrated electronics, this is not necessary when using
the IPRM 12. The sensor’s sophisticated switching allows it to remain
temperature stable, even without any external temperature compensating
devices. ... |

Tyco Electronics Reluctance Resolvers for
Hybrid Applications |
| |
|
Tyco
Electronics: New emission legislation and the trend towards energy
efficient transportation support an increased development in the area of
hybrid propulsion for passenger cars. One of the key applications for
improved fuel economy in the hybrid market is the recovery and storage
of energy during the braking phase or regenerative braking. When
braking, the energy of the moving car is converted and stored in the
Li-ion batteries instead of being dissipated through the heating of
braking disks. Upon acceleration of the car, the available electrical
energy is used to help the car speed up by releasing this energy into a
controlled electrical motor. More advanced systems may continuously
propel the cars’ electrical motors. In order to keep the efficiency of
the electrical hybrid motors at a maximum level, the position of the
drive shaft must be continuously monitored. Tyco Electronics has
developed a break-though inductive sensor, known as a “Reluctance
Resolver,” that can help support reduced fuel consumption with in these
new hybrid propulsion systems. The Reluctance Resolver is part of a
system to measure shaft angles. ... |

mm and a housing length of only 30 mm. With a short response time of 0,5
ms and the high resolution of 1 μm, they are without equal in this size
class. The measuring range is 0 to 1 mm. The switching version of these
sensors is even available with a modest length of 24 mm. They are
equipped with bright LED status windows that are easy to see. With a
mounting depth of 4,7 mm, the IFFM 08 inductive proximity switch can ... |

World’s smallest inductive encoder |
| |
|
POSIC
introduces the world’s smallest incremental inductive encoder kit ID1101
for linear and rotary applications. It measures only 8.7 x 6.3 mm with a
thickness of 0.8 mm and has an A quad B output stage that runs up to a
frequency of 200 kHz. The linear/rotary target is a 0.8 mm thick
strip/disc that comes in different lengths/diameters. The linear
resolution ranges from 1 um at a speed of 0.5 m/s to 150 um at 50 m/s.
The rotational resolution depends on the disc diameter and is for
example 12 bits (1024 A-B pulses per revolution) with a 30 mm diameter
disc. Typical applications are in the motion-control domain with
magnetic actuators like brushed and brushless motors, voice coil
actuators, linear drives and more. Markets served include industrial,
automotive, robotics, medical, instrumentation, laboratory automation,
office equipment. Evaluation kits with linear or rotational targets are
available from stock. ... |

Universal Conditioning Module for inductive transducers |
| |
|
Penny
+ Giles, designer and manufacturer of high precision position
sensors, has launched a new Universal Conditioning Module (UCM) that
provides reliable signal conditioning for a wide range of analogue
inductive transducer types. The module can work with any manufacturer’s
transducer and is suitable to drive 4, 5 or 6 wire differential LVDTs,
ratiometric LVDTs and 3 wire inductive half bridge transducers (or RVDT
equivalents). UCM has a low current requirement of less than 10mA and
can be linked and synchronized with up to 50 modules in one network for
multiple channel measurement systems. The UCM provides a simple 0.5 to
4.5Vdc analogue signal output, or by using additional module cards, into
a variety of different voltage ranges, a current output, or digital PWM
output. It normally operates from an unregulated 10 - 30Vdc supply. ... |

Balluff Globalprox family – 2-wire range
expanded |
| |
|
The
name Globalprox stands for a complete, globally available product line
of rugged inductive sensors in 2- and 3-wire technology from Balluff.
The sensor specialist and connectivity provider introduced additions to
the line with DC 2-wire, normally closed versions at the 2009 Hanover
Exhibition. Balluff now offers all the designs for the Asian market as
Globalprox variants, even with the worldwide standard approvals such as
CULUS and CE. Also new are weld splatter resistant 2-wire versions.
Balluff Globalprox sensors offer high reliability, increased flexibility
and customer benefits as well as an optimal price-performance ration.
Typical applications include object detection in handling and assembly
as well as the packaging industry for monitoring end positions or
workpiece feeding. These flush-mountable 2-wire inductive sensors are
available with extended switching distance from M8 to M30 as normally
open or normally closed, polarized or non-polarized and with cable,
connector or pigtail connection. Now the user always has the right
sensor available for any application. Also available are weld splatter
resistant versions with Teflon coated housing. These sensors, which are
offered as quick-disconnect and pigtail variants with ... |

Baumer Miniature sensors - Small,
lightweight and precise |
| |
|
For
applications in restricted space, Baumer offers the most diverse
miniature sensors for convincing and precise solutions. The small IWRM
04 distance-measuring inductive sensors, with a diameter of 4 mm and a
housing length of only 30 mm, are the most compact inductive analog
sensors on the market. With a short response time of 0,5 ms and the high
resolution of 1 μm, they are without equal in this size class. The FHDK
04 optical miniature sensor provides a compelling argument with very
high efficiency background suppression. The Baumer developers were able
to accommodate this sensor in a housing measuring only 4 x 6 x 45 mm.
With a bracket for profiles and only one groove plate, this sensor can
be secured in any commercially available extrusion frame. Several
sensors may be operated next to one another without any mutual optical
interference. In addition, the IO-Link communications standard is
supported. Ultrasonic sensors ... |

IO-Link sensors - innovation with true
value added! |
| |
|
Baumer
Electric: IO-Link is the new standard in the lower communication
layer supported by leading automation and sensor manufacturers. An
IO-Link sensor transmits standard digital or analog output signals and
provides an additional serial data communication with the control unit
as master to exchange parameters such as the measuring range,
sensitivity, time delay and operating mode. Because the serial data
transmission needs no additional wires and the output signals are
compatible, it is possible to use standard cables and connectors and
combine or mix IO-Link devices and standard devices. This advantage
simplifies the entry, realization and use of this new and easy
technology. Baumer offers now an expanded range of IO-Link products.
From the smallest optical switches up to ultrasonic and inductive
distance sensors, a wide variety of technologies and devices is
available. ... |
