SIKO Inclinometer IK360, Precise solar tracking of parabolic, heliostat and solar modules

SIKO Inclinometer IK360"To capture every ray of sunlight", is the slogan used by small and large solar thermal systems and photovoltaic systems. Efficiency and return play a significant role. Precise solar tracking is a key factor in this process. The new IK360 inclinometer from Siko now provides ultimate accuracy in solar tracking with absolute measurement technology over 360°. The main area of application of the new IK360 from Siko is the alignment of heliostat or photovoltaic modules and the tracking of parabolic trough collectors or even Fresnel collectors. The absolute measurement technique of the IK360, makes reference runs after start-up or following a period of idle time unnecessary. The sensor uses the natural force of gravity to accurately map positions with a system accuracy of +/- 0.1° in a 360° area. The compact IK360 also benefits from quick and easy installation and and a variety of different interfaces. The IK360 rounds off SIKO's extensive portfolio of magnetic and non-contact measuring systems from ...

Encoders, Cable-Pulls and Inclination Sensors: Robust Sensors for Cranes and Heavy Vehicles

Encoders, Cable-Pulls and Inclination SensorsBaumer: Hardly any other application demands more from a sensor product than outdoor deployment. Operation and functionalities must not be affected by frequent and extreme temperature fluctuations, heavy impacts by shocks and vibrations, moisture, splash water or dust. Encoders, cable-pull encoders and inclination sensors installed at cranes or heavy vehicles in Construction, Agriculture and Forestry for position and angle feedback must withstand the most hostile environments. Baumer provides an expansive product portfolio with sensor solutions that are specifically conceived for installation at cranes, mobile work machines and HeavyDuty utility vehicles: Absolute multiturn encoders that operate on a patented magnetic sensing principle master tasks like position feedback and rotational angle detection at crane booms. IP 67 protection ratings, excellent temperature resistance (from -40° to +120 °C) and optional redundant configurations ensure utmost operational safety and reliability. Communication with master control systems is via SSI or fieldbus interface, for example CANopen or SAE J1939. The same hallmarks apply to the robust and ultra-precise cable-pull assemblies that allow for both incremental and absolute encoder solutions and provide you with exactly the flexibility you need. Thanks to several cable measuring lengths up to 50 m and the high degree of linearity, typically 0.02% of the measuring range, they provide the requisite capabilities for dependable outrigger position feedback and position detection in drilling applications, at excavators and crane booms. Acquisition of vehicle tilt and boom angle is performed by robust inclination sensors with one or two channels and variable sensing ranges ...

Tyco Electronics Presents Hall Sensors for Convertible Roof Systems

Hall Sensors for Convertible Roof SystemsTyco Electronics: Requirements for convertible roof systems increased dramatically over the last twenty years. The system of textile roofs has been developed continuously and complemented by retractable hard tops since the beginning of the nineties. The complete kinematics has high mechanical tolerances, but the robustness of the complete system must be provided every time. In order to provide availability and accuracy, non contacting position sensors are being used either for on/off position detection or angular positions detection. For a proper working kinematics in a roof system, position and angular sensors are designed in. Depending on the mechanical design, different types of sensors are being used for these applications, such as on/off position detection at kinematics, angular detections at swivel joints, and end position detections at hydraulic cylinders. Separate cable assemblies are used frequently which provide a simple and precise mounting in the complex mounting process of a roof system. For over ten years, Tyco Electronics has provided hall sensor cable assemblies ...

Tyco Electronics Reluctance Resolvers for Hybrid Applications

Tyco Electronics: New emission legislation and the trend towards energy efficient transportation support an increased development in the area of hybrid propulsion for passenger cars. One of the key applications for improved fuel economy in the hybrid market is the recovery and storage of energy during the braking phase or regenerative braking. When braking, the energy of the moving car is converted and stored in the Li-ion batteries instead of being dissipated through the heating of braking disks. Upon acceleration of the car, the available electrical energy is used to help the car speed up by releasing this energy into a controlled electrical motor. More advanced systems may continuously propel the cars’ electrical motors. In order to keep the efficiency of the electrical hybrid motors at a maximum level, the position of the drive shaft must be continuously monitored. Tyco Electronics has developed a break-though inductive sensor, known as a “Reluctance Resolver,” that can help support reduced fuel consumption with in these new hybrid propulsion systems. The Reluctance Resolver is part of a system to measure shaft angles. ...

Tyco Electronics Hall Travel- and Rotary Sensor Platforms for Automotive Applications

Tyco Electronics: In the automotive industry, development time is a key factor for successful market positioning. Tyco Electronics’ answer for this is a platform strategy for non-contact switches and angular- and travel sensors. Standardized designs and production processes offer short-term availability of fully functional sensors for functional testing. One highlight is the hall technology based travel- and angular sensor platform for measurement ranges up to 40mm or angle ranges of 360° (see picture). Travel and angle measurement can be realized within one sensor package. The applied hall technology is a 2D measurement principle which results in a significant measurement performance increase compared to existing Hall sensors. These sensors show a high performance related to a linearity error of only 2-3% and a temperature drift of ...

Tilt sensor for rugged, safety critical applications

Penny + Giles has launched a new robust tilt sensor, STT500, for use in safety critical applications used on cranes and lifting platforms. A tilt sensor is an essential part of a Safe Load Indicator (SLI) system on a crane, designed to alert the operator if the lift is exceeding the safe operating range of the machine. The SLI measures the angle and extension of the boom along with the load weight, and calculates if the machine is working within the manufacturers suggested safety margins. Based on proven solid-state technology, the STT500 provides distinct advantages in reliability, stability and compactness over fluid based, electrolytic and pendulum operated sensors. It can operate from a 5V or 8-30V power source and has a measurement range of ±10º, ±20º, ±30º or ±60º with an output from 0.5 to 4.5Vdc over the full inclination angle. STT500 is supplied in a marine grade (LM6) cast aluminium alloy housing with 88mm diameter flange. It has a high environmental protection rating of IP69K to withstand the ingress of dust and fluids, even under high pressure washing. The sensor has no moving parts and ...
