Colibrys launches MEMS Tilt Sensor featuring micro g bias stability for platform stabilization, down borehole drilling and measurement whilst drilling (MWD) applications.

RS9003, MEMS Tilt Sensor featuring micro g bias stabilityColibrys announce the release of one of the world’s highest stability ±3g full range accelerometer commercially available, the RS9003.A. RS9003 is an ideal sensor designed for tilt measurement, measurement whilst drilling, borehole survey and other drilling applications where precision sensing over time in harsh and safety critical environments is demanded (see Colibrys application note: Down borehole & directional drilling). It is also a perfect product for stabilization of large platforms such as radars, antennas, turrets and surveillance cameras. The sensor features composite bias stability of better than 600μg and composite scale factor stability of better than 500ppm. “This level of performance has been so far the domain of precision mechanics and vibrating quartz accelerometers, which are foreseen to be increasingly displaced by Silicon MEMS technology, offering a disruptive change in tilt sensing performance with major benefits in terms of robustness, size and weight, cost and power consumption” highlights Soheil Habibi, Business Development Manager for Colibrys inertial sensors. He added further; “We aim to displace electromechanical sensors such as the Honeywell QFlex in many ...

PWA contactless angle sensors

PEWATRON AG: The new line of PWA contactless angle sensors with electrical angle up to 360° and 12 bit resolution has been designed as a sturdy solution for industrial as well as in mobile applications. The line currently consists of 3 series, all of which feature a ratiometric 5V output: * PWA1 series: with integrated magnet and return spring, * PWA8 series: with separate magnet (at request with magnet support), * PWA9 series: as PWA8, however with 2 independent redundant outputs for fault detection in the measurement system. Optionally available with PWM output. The series PWA8 and PWA9 are characterised by a high insensitivity to mechanical tolerances (magnet offset) and an air gap of up to 5.5 mm. Owing to the secure attachment by means of metal lugs, a high temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (optionally +125°C) and protection class IP67/IP68, the PWA line is ideally suited for the application in rough environments. ...

T7 Networked absolute Inclinometer with USD-CAN or RS232 Interface

T7 Networked absolute Inclinometer with USD-CAN or RS232 InterfacePEWATRON AG: The new T7 is a compact absolute inclinometer utilizing a unique solid-state sensor to give high accuracy tilt readings over a full 360 degree range (single axis). Networking Interfaces, programmable damping, zero setting, -20°C to +100°C temperature range and IP67 sealing make this inclinometer best suited for solar tracker or heavy construction equipment. The T7 provides ±0.1 degree accuracy in the range 0°C to 70°C with 0.01 degree resolution. The T7 is available with either a RS232 or USD-CAN interface. The RS232 version supports up to fifteen T7s on a single bus. Our USD-CAN protocol allows a network of up to sixty-four T7s to be connected over 200m cable length to a single host. Power for each T7 is supplied over the network cable. The host accesses the T7-USD-CANs through our low cost CANA-232/CANA-485 adapter module. This module allows the host to access each T7 on the network using simple serial port commands. A Windows demo application is provided for displaying the angles and temperature as well as setting operating modes, orientation, zero position, damping / averaging time, direction, and more ...

New tilt sensor for rugged, safety critical applications

tilt sensorPenny + Giles has launched a new robust tilt sensor, STT500, for use in safety critical applications used on cranes and lifting platforms. A tilt sensor is an essential part of a Safe Load Indicator (SLI) system on a crane, designed to alert the operator if the lift is exceeding the safe operating range of the machine. The SLI measures the angle and extension of the boom along with the load weight, and calculates if the machine is working within the manufacturers suggested safety margins. Based on proven solid-state technology, the STT500 provides distinct advantages in reliability, stability and compactness over fluid based, electrolytic and pendulum operated sensors. It can operate from a 5V or 8-30V power source and has a measurement range of ±10º, ±20º, ±30º or ±60º with an output from 0.5 to 4.5Vdc over the full inclination angle. STT500 is supplied in a marine grade (LM6) cast aluminium alloy housing with 88mm diameter flange. It has a high environmental protection rating of IP69K to withstand the ingress of dust and fluids, even under high pressure washing. The sensor has no moving parts and ...

Defining inclinations with impressive accuracy - Digital single-axis inclinometer AIDSI

AIDSI servo single-axis inclinometerWith its AIDSI servo single-axis inclinometer series ALTHen GmbH Mess- und Sensortechnik – the specialist for electrical measurement of mechanical values – is launching a new measuring system for the measuring and monitoring of inclinations, angles and changes in angle. The highest degree of precision and resistance to extreme mechanical impacts such as shock and vibration are the features that make these rugged devices outstanding. AIDSI inclinometers are used wherever the exact alignment of a defined angle to a reference angle in slow motional processes is to be measured and controlled. They are used in industry for the levelling of plane-tables and rotary tables as well as for applications such as monitoring cranes and hoisting platforms for safety or for the exact positioning of working platforms and satellite dishes. The innovative digital servo inclinometers from the AIDSI series measure the inclination of an axis with continuous zero point ...
