New System for Moisture Measurement |
| |
Micro-Polar
II (LB 567) is the new moisture measurement system from BERTHOLD
TECHNOLOGIES, specifically developed for the measurement of bulk
materials. It provides online monitoring on conveyor belts or chutes and
can be easily installed at existing plants. The Microwave based
measurement operates completely non-contacting. The components are not
exposed to any wear and tear as the emitting antenna is mounted below
and the receiving antenna is mounted above the conveyor belt. Therefore
no maintenance is required. The measurement provides very representative
measuring results by the penetration of all material layers. Due to
technical improvements in frequency and frequency range, new
opportunities have become available for applications, which had been
restricted in terms of bulk density or particle size. Using the new
system, even high bulk layers can be penetrated due to the increased
dynamics. The multi-frequency technology used by Berthold Technologies
ensures a very stable and reliable measurement as several measuring
values are taken for different individual ... |

Michell’s S8000 Integrale gives
drift-free dew-point measurements in vacuum |
| |
Michell
Instruments: The S8000 Integrale cooled mirror hygrometer provides
highly reliable, drift-free dew-point measurements in vacuums as low as
0.05 mbar, making it unique in its category. It is ideal for
applications, such as oil refilling of transformers, which involve
vacuum pumping. Many high voltage transformers, especially those
switching many thousands of kVA (such as the types found in power plant
sub-stations), are filled completely with a refined mineral oil. This
serves several purposes; most importantly the oil must act as a main
part of the transformer’s insulation, though it also serves to cool the
transformer. Moisture inside transformers adversely affects the
dielectric and insulating properties of the oil. Vacuum pumping the
transformer enclosure is a common practice in the industry, with the
sole purpose of minimizing the total moisture content prior to oil
filling. ... |

DataNet Network for Government Monitored
Umbilical Cord Blood Lab |
| |
|
Fourier Systems Ltd.: The DataNet system application is an
umbilical cord laboratory where cord blood stem cell research is carried
out and cord blood is stored. The Taiwanese government requires daily
reports on the laboratory's deep cold refrigerators and room humidity
and temperature environment status. To meet the government requirements
they needed a computerized solution that could measure and produce
printed reports via the lab computer system. The lab decided that the
DataNet solution features were most appropriate in helping them respond
to Ministry of Health's strict regulations. Umbilical cord blood is
considered a key resource in stem cell research. Until recently
umbilical cord blood was considered medical waste to be disposed of
after the birth of a newborn, however today medical perceptions have
dramatically changed. Today umbilical cord blood and the plentiful
cryopreservation of the stem cells found in the cord blood are
considered life saving. Umbilical cord blood is a 100 percent biological
match to the newborn. Commonly the blood is now used in stem research
and stored in specialized cord blood banks. These specimens perform two
potentially valuable functions. They can help future patients in need of
stem cell transplants or act as a private source for the newborn child
and their family. A simple network has been applied and utilizes five
DNL920 loggers, one DNL910 and one Receiver. The external PT100
temperature sensor measures room temperature and the internal RH sensor
monitors humidity inside the laboratory. Additional sensors including
thermocouple temperature sensors, with a range as low as -80º C, are
used to ... |

New cooled mirror hygrometer for
anti-icing systems of gas turbines |
| |
The
new generation of the Optidew Hygrometer from Michell Instruments
was designed especially for applications in anti-icing systems for
stationary gas turbines. In power generation plants located in
environments with low temperatures and high relative humidity, there is
a risk of ice forming in the air intake systems, leading to many
potential problems. Firstly the accumulation of ice on the filter
elements will block the filter and lead to loss of power through a drop
of pressure and reduced mass flow. In turn this will lead to reduced
thermal efficiency. In extreme cases, chunks of ice may be ingested into
the compressor and cause physical damage to the turbine. Protecting
against icing is vital to prolonging the life and efficiency of the gas
turbine. Ice protection systems vary between de-icing and anti-icing,
the latter usually featuring a precision hygrometer such as the new
Optidew for Anti-icing Systems. Applying the fundamental cooled-mirror
measurement principle, it delivers a repeatable, drift-free dew point or
relative humidity measurement. The robust design of the new Optidew
hygrometer ... |

| |
E+E
Elektronik: The new transmitter of the series EE061, in the form of
a slim probe, allows for the precise measurement of the relative
humidity in air from 0…100 %RH. The main challenge in the development
was to deal with the heat generated by the current output. The latest
microprocessor technology in combination with excellent temperature
compensation and a special design of the electronics have solved this
problem. The EE061 unifies outstanding measurement accuracy with a
compact design and a 4 – 20 mA current output. The electronic board
integrated in the probe is protected from external influences by a
potting compound of very high quality and therefore usable from -40 to
60 °C. In combination with the for years now proven quality of the E+E
coating of the humidity sensor, is the transmitter insensitive to dust,
dirt and condensation. The EE061 allows for stable long term
measurements in demanding applications like outside, in stables, storage
rooms, or greenhouses. All important information for the user is

Cut out the waiting with the MDM300
Advanced Dew-point Hygrometer |
| |
Michell
Instruments’ MDM300 advanced dew-point hygrometer can save engineers
weeks of waiting time each year. Recent research into the operation of
Michell Instruments’ ceramic sensor technology has helped the MDM300
provide faster measurements. Dew points as low as -70°C can now be
measured accurately in less than 10 minutes – faster in many cases. This
super-fast response does not rely on the sensor being dried by a
desiccant, which means that every measurement is fast – not just the
first of the day – allowing for many more measurements to be taken each
day. However, this is not the only way in which the MDM300 cuts out
waiting. Efficient nickel metal hydride batteries and power management
circuitry provide the user with 48 hours of use between charges – giving
much more time in the field making measurements. In addition a flat
battery can be recharged to 90% of its full potential in just 20
minutes, thanks to the intelligent charger. With its Bluetooth
connection, the MDM300 connects wirelessly to a PC. This means no more
time lost in locating, untangling and plugging in cables. Set-up of the
instrument and downloading of logged data is therefore quick and simple.
A number of cost-effective and easily-portable sampling systems are

High pressure S8000 from Michell saves
money in compressed air and gas ... |
| |
Michell
Instruments’ S8000 Integrale cooled mirror hygrometer is able to
cope with sample gas at pressures of up to 17 barg. This means a reduced
response time which can help save users time and money in dry
applications – such as compressed air and bottled gases – where low
dew-points are reached. Pressurising the sample speeds up the response
time because the gas will have a higher dew point than the same sample
at atmospheric pressure. This is because the water molecules are
squeezed closer together under pressure making the sample ‘wetter’ than
it would be at atmospheric pressure. For example, a pressure dew point
of -65°C at 17barg is equivalent to an atmospheric dew point of -100°C.
With the higher dew point under pressure, the S8000 is able to reach the
temperature and stabilise much fast than with the lower atmospheric dew
point. The response speed of the instrument has been further enhanced
with updates to the S8000 firmware to allow the tracking of any minute
dew point changes in the sample gas. All this is good news for
manufacturers of ... |

designed flameproof certified solution to on-line continuous moisture
measurement for petrochemical liquid applications. The instrument is
designed to be wholly installed in the hazardous area, so simplifying
site installation and retrofits. Moisture content is determined in part
per million by weight (ppmw) through Henry’s Law calculation. The method
utilizes the measured dew point temperature, the liquid temperature and
values from a pre-programmed extensive list of saturation concentration
data for a variety of petrochemical liquids. For cases where customised
liquid characteristics data are required, they can be entered quickly
and easily by the user. LIQUIDEW EExd is certified as flameproof for use
in IEC Zone 1 and 2/NEC Class 1 Div. 1 and 2 hazardous areas. The Main
unit (electronics and sensor) together with the associated sampling
system may be mounted at ... |

New FAST way to increased accuracy of the
Optidew Cooled Mirror Hygrometer |
| |
Michell
instruments has developed a new technology to increase the accuracy
and reliability of their cooled mirror instruments. The Frost Assurance
System Technology (FAST) works by ensuring that, for temperatures below
0°C, the ‘dew point’ reading is always taken from the formation of ice
crystals, rather than water droplets. The new system is now being
incorporated into the Optidew range of cooled mirror instruments.
Although these hygrometers are already highly accurate, being able to
give moisture readings down to a level of -40°Cdp, some applications
need even higher levels of accuracy. Water doesn’t always freeze at 0°C
– in some circumstances super-cooled water can exist at much lower
temperatures. This can be caused by contaminants in the gas being tested
for moisture, or even build up of residue on the cooled mirror surface.
Super-cooled water condenses at a slightly different temperature to
‘normal’ ice formation, and the errors involved are typically equal to
10%. ... |

Small and Reliable Intrinsically Safe Dew
Point Transmitter for CNG applications |
| |
Recently
developed by Michell Instruments, the Easidew TX I.S. Transmitter
offers a minimal footprint while maintaining exceptional performance and
reliability. The new transmitter can be connected in a 2-Wire loop
powered or 3-Wire configuration. It features a white HDPE sinter,
designed to provide a visual indication of sensor contamination. The new
sintered guard provides protection to less than 10 micron and is
impermeable to liquids. The Easidew TX I.S. is certified by ATEX and FM
Approvals for use in hazardous areas. The certification lists five
different galvanic isolators and allows customers to choose the most
suitable isolator for their own on-site requirements. This intrinsically
safe transmitter has powerful processing capability allowing for the
first time, the on-board calculation of ppm(v) moisture content in
selectable ranges from 0 to 3000ppm... |
