New AC-Powered Long Stroke LVDT |
| |
The
new Series LLS60X from Stellar Technology is a high performance
long stroke LVDT displacement transducer with a spring return armature.
The armature is restrained and guided by an ultra-low friction bearing
assembly and the internal spring automatically positions the armature to
its full extension. This design is used where it is not possible to
connect the transducer armature to the moving part being measured. The
compact size of the LLS60X series makes it ideal for limited-space
applications requiring a stroke range from ± 0.5” to ± 3.0”. These
displacement transducers are ruggedly constructed of stainless steel and
able to withstand harsh environments where high ambient temperature or
vibration is present. LLS60X displacement transducers can be specified
with either ±0.5% or ±0.25% linearity. Each unit is shipped with
traceable calibration certificates. We invite you to visit the Stellar
Technology website (www.stellartech.com) and review our comprehensive

New Electromechanical NC Joining Module
NCFB – a Low-Cost Alternative |
| |
Kistler's
electromechanical joining modules facilitate automation of
force-displacement monitored joining and press-fitting processes. The
new NC joining module NCFB Type 2160A... has been specially designed for
standard joining processes and is an enhancement of the existing
product range. With its cost-optimized design, it offers a more
favorable price/performance ratio. The piezoelectric force sensor
integrated into the robust case offers a choice of two predefined
measuring ranges, 50 kN and 25 kN, for precision force measurement. Even
deep end points such as the position of bearings in half-shell gear
boxes can be easily reached with a 400 mm stroke. The speed of up to 150
mm/s offers a quick return stroke and hence a short machine cycle, even
for a long idle stroke. The use of the absolute encoder, which is part
of the standard equipment on all Kistler NC joining modules, eliminates
the need for reference point determination even during operation. The NC
Compact Firmware (2159A…), which is integrated into the servo
controller, is perfect for simple force displacement evaluation ... |

New measuring principle for low cost
displacement sensors |
| |
Micro-Epsilon
has developed a completely new displacement measurement principle with
its new Magnetic Displacement Sensor (MDS). In contrast to the widely
used Hall Effect principle, the MDS is based on a method patented by
Micro-Epsilon, which is based on a linear relationship between the
position of the magnet and the output signal. As printed coils are used
for this measurement principle, the manufacturing method does not depend
on semiconductor processes. This makes customer-specific adaptations
considerably easier. The sensors have an extremely high basic
sensitivity, which enables a very simple and low cost evaluation
circuit. With an eddy current sensor as the technological core, very
fast, high resolution versions can be achieved. Compared to Hall Effect
sensors, much larger measuring ranges (currently 60mm limit) can be
achieved. In addition, significantly smaller magnets are required as the
target. ... |

With
its well-proven electromechanical NC joining modules such as NCFH Type
2151B…, Kistler offers a particularly compact and high-precision
system solution for a wide range of press-fitting and joining tasks with
integral force displacement monitoring. This series has now been
enhanced with a new joining module with a 15 kN nominal joining force.

Eddy current sensors in tribology testers |
| |
Eddy
current sensors from Micro-Epsilon are once again being used in a
new high-performance test system at the Institute for Tribology at the
Clausthal Technical University. The new tester, which is currently under
construction, will be used to examine the tribological, flow mechanics
and rotor dynamic processes of highly loaded sliding bearings at maximum
circumferential speeds of the shaft. Based on previous positive
experiences with Micro-Epsilon eddy current sensors used on existing
testers for examining hydrodynamic radial plain bearings or plain
bearings with particularly high loads, eddyNCDT series sensors will also
be used in the new tester. In doing so, the shaft reaches
circumferential speeds of up to 200m/s; conventional test systems
achieve a maximum of 120m/s. The position of the test bearing housing
and the relative movement between the rotor and the test bearing is
detected in the tester using eddy current displacement sensors. The
bearing gap of the plain bearing between bearing surface and rotor is
also measured using
eddy current sensors. Or this, 22 sensor channels
will be integrated in the test structure. Miniature eddyNCDT sensors
with 0.5mm measuring range are used due to their high cut-off frequency
and high resolution. Another key criterion is the sensor’s small
installation footprint. Therefore, measuring points for very tight
installation requirements are possible without requiring any disruptive
modifications to the test design. High environmental compatibility is
also a key reason for selecting eddy current sensors: oil or water in
the measuring gap ... |

New optoNCDT1402 laser sensor from
Micro-Epsilon |
| |
The
new optoNCDT1402 laser sensor from Micro-Epsilon replaces the
company’s previous optoNCDT 1401 product. The new sensor provides
improved performance and extreme flexibility. This flexibility comes
from a brand new Teach-In function, which can be used to limit or change
the measuring range for each application. In this way, both the
resolution and the linearity of the sensor in the pre-set measuring
range can be significantly improved. This is of particular benefit in
applications where only a small measuring range but high performance is
required. The flexibility of the optoNCDT 1402 is further enhanced by an
integrated swivelling cable connector, which can be used to change the
direction of the cable output to suit the individual application. By
utilising a CMOS sensor, the optoNCDT 1402 has an increased measuring
rate of 1.5kHz making it suitable for rapid processes. An RS422 digital
interface is provided, as well as analogue current / voltage output. As
before, the new series comprises seven sensors, which have measuring
ranges between 5mm and 250mm. Together with the integrated controller,
the very compact design makes mounting faster and easier and
installation is possible in restricted spaces. Due to its very
effective, real time compensation process for the changing reflection

NC Compact System Speeds Setting Up of NC
Joining Modules with Force-Displacement Monitoring |
| |
Kistler:
Standard joining processes, such as pressing bearings onto shafts, can
be flexibly and reliably automated by the use of electromechanical NC
joining modules from Kistler with integral force-displacement
monitoring. Kistler's new NC Compact System now makes setting up and
operation of these modules quicker and easier. As a closed system with
integral controller and firmware it cuts capital expenditure and
installation costs, reduces susceptibility to faults and facilitates
integration into existing on-site control environments. In addition to
the NC joining module with matching IndraDrive servo controller, NC
Compact System consists of firmware (NC Compact (Type 2159A)) and
operating panel (Type 2158A) with 5,7" TFT touch screen display. The
operating panel is used for configuring the parameters of a standard
joining process, visualizing the process and backing up data. As it is
not needed for ongoing operation, a single panel is sufficient for
configuring the parameters of several joining modules. The NC Compact
firmware is preinstalled in the IndraDrive servo controller. It includes
up to 16 programs with force-displacement monitoring and integral
sequence control. ... |

High-grade steel sensors - Install and
forget |
| |
This
is the motto behind Baumer's new high-grade steel sensors. Baumer
is now introducing a generation of high-grade steel sensors that can be
used in virtually any product. Combining this with Baumer's signature
sensor miniaturization allows simple integration of the sensors into
customer-designed housings. With decades of experience in temperature
and pressure sensors, its product range has been expanded with many
innovations in the position sensor area. Inductive sensors that are now
indispensable for automation tasks are being offered in various 1.4404
all-metal versions. Enhanced EMC immunity and expanded temperature
ranges up to +100 °C are special features of these sensors. They are
available from a diameter of 6,5 mm. Laser distance sensors with
accuracies down to the µm range can be used easily both outdoors and in
the process area. Protection classes up to IP 69K and their
insensitivity to ambient light up to 100 kLux make these sensors unique.
Baumer is also setting new standards with the VeriSens® family of vision
sensors. The rugged high-grade steel housing is resistant to most
aggressive media and suitable for use in the food or pharmaceutical

Noncontact position sensor exploits FPGA
technology for higher performance |
| |
|
The new ECL202 eddy-current displacement sensor /position sensor has
significantly improved thermal stability and immunity to electromagnetic
interference (EMI) as well as improved linearity and resolution. The
sensor employs FPGA technology enabling complex, proprietary
mathematical algorithms to achieve higher performance levels than purely
analog methods. According to Don Martin, president of Lion Precision,
“Using FPGA digital processing techniques, we can achieve performance
that simply is not possible with discrete analog electronics.” Digital
technology can very precisely detect the sensor’s signal and more easily
differentiate it from other electrical signals present in the sensing
environment. This means the sensor continues to work well in
electrically noisy environments such as near motor controllers or other
high-power switching electronics. Using this same proprietary method,
multiple ECL202 sensors can be positioned near each other without the
mutual interference usually experienced with eddy-current sensors. ... |
