ROTOSCAN RS4-4M with new functions for
operation on transfer trolleys |
| |
Leuze
electronic will present its flexible multitalent for people safety with
the new function extension "Motion" for the first time at the Hanover
Trade Fair 2008. Intelligent sensors boast the ability (among others) to
perform several tasks at one time. A task can therefore generally be
completed quicker and easier – and the user saves money. The new
ROTOSCAN RS4-4M Safety Laser Scanner is a good example of this type of
function integration. The “M” in the product name stands for “Motion”,
and is there to show that, on the basis of the sound measurement of
speeds and distances, this new member of the Leuze electronic Safety
Laser Scanner family is best suited for mobile applications. Motion
Monitoring with transfer trolley operation: MotionMonitoring allows up
to 6 speed values to be monitored and detection zones to be adjusted as
required. No additional encoders are required here – the entire
functionality is performed by the scanner and the PLC. ... |

SCHMIDT® Flow-sensor SS 23.400 ATEX3 |
| |
|
SCHMIDT Technology expands the range of products by offering a
new thermal flow sensor for the use in explosive environment. Designed
for the operation according the ATEX-directives, the sensor falls in the
category 3G and can be applied in ATEX-zone 2. The insertion sensor with
a 9 mm stainless steel tube can measure the flow velocity and detect the
direction of clean air and gas flow. The microcontroller based
electronic unit is integrated in the tube. The precise sensors tip
contains a super fast sensor element in an aerodynamically designed and
mechanical protected chamber. The analogue output for the measuring
result provides a voltage or current signal. Two switching outputs
indicate the flow direction and a limit value. A serial interface allows
on-site programming of the sensor via PC and the adaptation of, response
time, threshold and switching polarity to the operation requirements.
Applications: paint-spray lines, gas flow measuring, exhaust monitoring,
flow measuring in medical equipments ... |

Free eCatalog simplifies strain gage
selection |
| |
The
latest version of HBM’s free electronic strain gage catalog on CD-ROM is
now available. Designed to help customers in selecting strain gages, the
eStrain Gage Catalog 2008 highlights HBM’s latest innovations. The
software now generates quotes and outputs a completed fax order form for
placing the order. A plausibility check is included in the software that
covers HBM’s complete range of strain gages and uses default type codes
to ensure the correct strain gage is selected for any task. Installation
advice is given using a video in German and English on the CD-ROM. This
shows all the steps and precautions needed to ensure proper adhesion
using HBM’s products for strain gage installation. Extensive
explanations and detailed technical product descriptions complete the
range of information provided on the CD-ROM and a data sheet can be
printed out for every strain gage. The software also includes new strain
gages and accessories including, for example, strain gages with RJ11
connectors, ... |

PCB Piezotronics Debuts ICP® Explosion &
Blast Pressure Sensors Offer Low Noise and High Output Measurements |
| |
Depew,
NY, USA – Series 137A Quartz, free-field, ICP® blast pressure pencil
probes from the Aerospace & Defense division of PCB Piezotronics
(PCB®) are designed for a broad range of explosion, blast, and shock
wave testing. Applications include measuring blast pressure in
free-field or closed bunker arenas to obtain peak pressure, total
impulse, shock wave and time-of-arrival measurements often used to study
blast effects on structures, vehicles, and humans. Quartz, free-field,
ICP® blast pressure pencil probes have an extremely fast 1 micro-second
response time, with resonant frequencies to 500k Hz. ICP® technology
features integral microelectronics that provides a high signal-to-noise
ratio compared to silicon semiconductor sensing technologies, which
require external amplification. The high-level 5 volt output signal is
capable of driving cable runs hundreds of feet in length, to a safe zone
for data acquisition. Sensors are frequency tailored to capture both
peak pressure and total impulse calculations. ... |

OPTIFLUX is a reliable partner for brine
preparation |
| |
A
long-standing Swiss salt mine is impressed by the reliability and
sturdiness of KROHNE's OPTIFLUX 4300 electromagnetic flowmeters.
The role of salt should not be underestimated: Besides being used in
food preparation and its healing effects in spas, it is also an
essential raw material in the chemical industry. For over 170 years a
large Swiss salt mine in the Rhine valley has been supplying people,
spas and the chemical industry with this white gold. The level of
automation in the salt mine has increased considerably over recent
years. When plans got underway to modify an existing facility in the
salt mine, the company needed new flowmeters to control and monitor the
brine and clarifying agent. This required exceedingly robust measuring
equipment due to the extremely aggressive environment. The customer also
wanted a highly reliable and flexible partner, who could, for example,
provide rapid service. The Swiss company installed KROHNE's OPTIFLUX
4300 electromagnetic flowmeter because it is wear-resistant ... |

PCB Piezotronics New Dynamic ICP®
Pressure Sensors Detect Combustion Instability & High Intensity
Acoustics in Rocket Motor Testing |
| |
The
Aerospace & Defense division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has
introduced a series of dynamic ICP® pressure sensors, Series 106, 116,
122, 123 and 124, designed expressly for measurement of combustion
instability and high intensity acoustics in rocket motors. The rugged,
hermetically sealed, are structured with
acceleration-compensated quartz sensing elements and detect rapid
pressure transients, pulsations, turbulence, noise, and spikes. They are
ideal for rocket motor testing to verify the amplitude and mode of
instabilities during motor firings. Other applications include
evaluation of liquid rocket injectors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems,
exhaust systems, compressors, turbines, pumps and pipelines, jet
engines, and weapons discharge. These devices monitor dynamic pressures
while subjected to high static background pressure. ICP® output features
on-board electronics ... |

Wax maker selects OPTIMASS to improve
accuracy |
| |
UK
wax manufacturer Kerax has installed an OPTIMASS 7300 Coriolis mass
flowmeter from KROHNE to improve the accuracy of production
processes at its plant in Chorley, Lancashire. Kerax produces a variety
of different waxes to be used in making castings and as ingredients in
products such as adhesives. Each formulation requires the blending of
two or three types of wax plus a number of additives. The mechanical
meter previously positioned on the input to the blending vessel was not
able to provide the accuracy needed for Kerax’s increasingly stringent
process control. The wax flowing through the meter can vary in density
from 0.8 to 1.0 kg/litre and in viscosity from 5.5 cP to 1,200 cP. It
can be flowing at rates varying from 1.8 to 15 tonnes/hour with
pressures from 1.4 bar to more than 4.1 bar at temperatures ranging from
20 to 120 °C. The newly installed KROHNE OPTIMASS 7300 Coriolis mass
flowmeter is capable of handling ... |

Capacitive Hygrothermo Transducers with
intelligent interchangeable probes |
| |
Pluggable
and interchangeable measurement probes are the main characteristic of
this new device series from JUMO. The flexible concept allows in
practice a substantial simplification with assembly and operation. In
addition savings in the area of maintenance can be reached since in many
cases you can do without the time consuming and cost intensive
calibration on location. Through the new plug system and the calibration
data which is provided directly in the sensor, an exchange of the probe
is possible in just a few seconds. Downtimes can thus be limited to a
minimum. The high measurement accuracy of the hygrothermo transducers
remains unlimited through the intelligent interchangeable probes.
Nevertheless the calibration keys attached inside of the device allow
for a one or two point calibration of the device. For applications in
the fields of the pharmaceutical and the bio-technology industries, the
new measurement encoders are now specially available with separate
probes for moisture and temperature. ... |
