10 Years of Crystal Growth at Kistler
Marked by Commissioning of Third In-House Facility |
| |
Kistler
commissioned its third plant for growing piezoelectric crystals at the
beginning of this year. This capacity boost represents the response of
the specialist in piezoelectric measurement of pressure, force, torque
and acceleration to the burgeoning demand for sensors with PiezoStar®
crystals. These crystals, which Kistler has now been producing itself
for more than ten years, have very special property profiles. As members
of the calcium gallogermanate family PiezoStar crystals offer superb
characteristics compared with conventional quartz, including several
times the sensitivity and accurate measurement even at elevated
temperatures. They are to be found in cylinder pressure sensors for
engines, cavity pressure sensors for injection molding of plastics and
high-temperature force sensors and accelerometers, etc. ... |

Non-contacting Displacement Measuring
Instrument |
| |
ALTHEN
GmbH Meß- und Sensortechnik announces the release of the new
KD-2306, a non-contact linear displacement measuring instrument based on
proven balanced bridge eddy current technology. The KD-2306 is easier to
use, makes high precision static and dynamic measurements, and supports
ambient, moderate temperature, and cryogenic rated sensors. Applications
range from lab work to production and process automation. The DIN rail
mount packaging makes the system ideal for integration into OEM
equipment and industrial control applications. The KD-2306 can sense
both ferrous and non-ferrous metal targets. The RoHS-compliant,
CE-marked system includes the electronics, sensor and interconnecting
cable. Standard sensing ranges are from 0.02” to 2.4”, with up to 0,0001
mm resolution or better, and non-linearity as little as 1%FS. Over 30
sensors models are available including single and dual coil, ... |

Radiometric bulk flow meter –
non-contacting and low-maintenance |
| |
The
conventional methods for bulk flow measurement come up against limiting
factors when it comes to the bulk industry. A highly reliable
alternative is provided by Berthold Technologies with their
radiometric belt weigher LB 442. Besides measurements of throughput and
conveyor capability, the system is also able to determine the dry weight
of the conveyed material by integrating an additional microwave moisture
measurement. The non-contacting and non-intrusive measurement technology
is perfectly suited for applications in the bulk industry. Neither dust,
temperature nor chemical or physical properties of the material can
affect the measuring performance. The robust construction of the belt
weigher with no moving parts benefits a low maintenance operation. The
measuring system can be installed on various conveying systems such as
screw conveyors, troughed chain conveyors and steel plate conveyors,
even ... |

PR5001 Si Dual Photo Diode |
| |
PREMA
Semiconductor proudly announces the release of their first optical
standard component PR5001, a dual photo diode for the near infrared
range with minimum footprint. An active area of two times 0.75mmx1.2mm
is packaged in a small clear DFN package with a size of only
1.8mmx2.9mm. PREMA´s silicon photo diodes have separate cathodes and a
common anode. They offer a very low dark current in the range of less
than 100pA at reverse voltages of up to 20V. The capacitance of the
photo diodes of less than 60pF at 10Volts allows the use for light
signals of higher frequency. The applied ModuS U6 process allows
economic production of large sized photo diodes with a high yield and
less impurity traps. Thus a very uniform sensitivity across both
elements can be achieved, which is important for position detection.
PR5001 has its peak sensitivity in the near infrared range around 890nm.
Possible applications for these dual photo diodes are light measurement,
laser beam alignment in laser printers and DVD/CD players, the use in
optical encoders and light barriers. ... |

The world's smallest industrial bar code
reader opens up whole new application scope – from the laboratory unit
to the IT solution |
| |
Leuze:
The use of bar codes and suitable bar code reading systems can open up
scope for the simple automation and optimization of operating processes.
With the aid of the world's smallest bar code reader, this technology
can be used even in miniaturized systems and devices or wherever space
is at a premium. The BCL 8 is the size of a matchbox, making it ideal
for solutions under even the most cramped conditions. The BCL 8 opens up
exciting new possibilities such as bar code-controlled data storage in
IT solutions, or for linking patient data with analysis results. Fast
entry into this technology is possible using a limited starter kit,
which allows potential new users to discover the full benefits of this
mini bar code reader. The world's smallest bar code reader for
industrial applications is the BCL 8 from Leuze electronic. Measuring
just 38 x 48 x 15 mm, this matchbox sized ... |

Vectron International’s SenGenuity
Launches Stand-Alone Output Hub for ViSmart Viscosity Sensor |
| |
SenGenuity
VisConnect Transmitter Provides 4-20 mA Output Signal from ViSmart
Sensors for Interface and Connectivity to Any Host Control Platform.
SenGenuity, the Sensors and Advanced Packaging division of Vectron
International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of
Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced
the launch of the VisConnect™ transmitter for its ViSmart™ solid-state
viscosity sensors. VisConnect is a stand-alone, analog/digital output
hub that provides access to ViSmart-delivered data via a standard 4-20
mA output signal, allowing customers to acquire multiple channels of
continuous viscosity and temperature data and integrate that data into
any host control platform, without the use of expensive instrumentation.
“SenGenuity is committed to providing customers with innovative
solutions for measuring the viscosity of fluids in challenging, embedded
environments,” said Kerem Durdag, director of business development,
SenGenuity. “The introduction of the VisConnect transmitter ... |

New pig detector SONOPIPE 12 from SONOTEC |
| |
SONOTEC
Ultraschallsensorik Halle GmbH: The new ultrasonic pig detector
SONOPIPE 12 was developed for pig detection in pipelines. It controls
the section of cleaning- and testing pigs in pipes for oil, liquid gases
and water. The advantage of this easy and reliable method is the outside
coupling of the sensors around the pipes. They are able to detect
whether there is a pig or only the product liquid right behind the wall.
Environmental risks due to dangerous holes in pipeline walls, as in
systems with mechanical pig detectors, belong to the past. The sensor
does not reach the inside of the pipes. The installation is easy and can
be carried out during line operations. The software which comes with the
device helps to start the operation. Since the ultrasonic sensor does
not touch the liquids, there is practically no abrasion. The amount for
maintenance is only small. The sensors can be applied for pipe diameters
between 8 and 60´´. Compared to methods working with radiation sources,
the ultrasonic method is non-hazardous. An effective electronic system, ... |

PCB Automotive Sensors Debuts High
Temperature Preamplifier Operating to +120 °C for NVH Powertrain &
Vehicle Underhood Testing |
| |
The
Automotive Sensors division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has
announced release of a new high-temperature preamplifier, designed to
overcome high temperature testing challenges associated with NVH
powertrain and vehicle underhood testing applications, and to broaden
options for NVH test engineers collecting acoustic data in high
temperature areas. Automotive engineers routinely perform NVH tests in
areas around the powertrain, where elevated operating temperatures can
present major measurement challenges. Underhood temperatures can peak at
+125 0C under normal driving conditions, and can be significantly higher
near turbochargers and exhaust system components, such as manifolds and
diesel particulate filters. In the past, test engineers were limited by
preamplifiers offering operating temperature ranges to + 70 0C. ... |
