Position sensors drive automobile
innovation |
| |
|
Measurement of the angular and linear position of various automobile
components opens the way to innovative solutions to enhance driving
pleasure, safety and performance while reducing fuel consumption,
emissions and cost. With more than 25 years of experience in the field,
Electricfil Automotive has the necessary know-how in all the
leading sensor technologies to provide optimum position-sensing
solutions for any engine, clutch, transmission, body or chassis
application. With the increasing use of electronic control systems in
automobiles, position sensors have become a key component in the
automotive industry. They provide control systems with the information
they need to optimize engine, clutch, transmission and other vehicle
functions. Engine management: Today's automobile engines are
increasingly controlled by electronic control units (ECU). To optimize
engine performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions, these
closed loop control systems require information on the position of a
number of components. For instance, to optimize ignition and injection
system timing, the ECU needs to know the exact position of the
crankshaft. The crank sensor ... |

Highest precision for the stationary
infrared temperature measurement |
| |
|
B+B Thermo-Technik GmbH has completed and optimized the DM series
of stationary measuring infrared thermometers with the new model DM751.
Equipped with a double laser collimation for the exact marking of the
measurement surface and with its measurement range of -40°C to 975°C, it
offers exceptional possibilities of application. In addition the DM751
offers an excellent optical resolution of 75:1. It is also highly
adequate for measuring temperatures in the low range. It can exactly
collimate and measures spots down to 0,9 mm at a distance of 70 mm!
Other than the normal centre collimation the double ray laser marks
exactly the whole measured surface avoiding so typical measurement
errors. Worthy of mention is also the fast response time of 120 ms. The
measuring sensor head and the electronic box are separately arranged, so
that exact and reliable measurements can be done also in hardly
accessible crowded positions. Optimal areas of applications are when a
contact free temperature measurement ... |

Melexis introduces new 300-to-930-MHz RF
Receiver Family |
| |
The
Melexis MLX71120 and MLX71121 are two new members of a highly
integrated RF receiver family. Both automotive qualified ICs with dual
RF inputs have been specifically designed for low cost antenna diversity
applications in the unlicensed Industrial-Scientific-Medical (ISM) and
Short-Range-Devices (SRD) frequency bands. The new MLX71120/MLX71121 RF
receiver ICs are tailored for low-power and low-cost fixed frequency
applications. They can address the European 863 - 870MHz SRD bands or
the ISM bands at 902 – 928MHz in North America. At the same time the new
receiver chips are applicable for the lower frequency bands at 315MHz
(e.g. in the US) or at 433MHz (e.g. in Europe and China). Manufacturers
of world-wide equipment for automotive Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) and
Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

Valeo Park4U™ selected as "Automotive
News PACE Award 2008" finalist |
| |
|
Paris, Valeo announces that its Park4UTM system has been selected
as a finalist for the 2008 Automotive News PACE Awards in the Product
Europe category. This ultrasonic technology-based driving assistance
system, a world premiere, automatically steers the car into the parking
slot in a few seconds. Drivers can take their hands off the wheel, but
keep their eyes on the road as they control the braking and acceleration
of the operation at all times. The PACE Award, jointly presented by
Automotive News, Microsoft, SAP and Transportation Research Center Inc.,
is viewed around the world as the industry symbol of innovation. This
nomination follows three successive years of PACE Awards won by Valeo:
in 2005 for the Lane Departure Warning System, in 2006 for the StARS
mico-hybrid system and in 2007 for the Blind Spot Detection system. ... |

LSP – Sensors for Precise Level Measuring
with 3A Approval |
| |
With
the LSP 05x Baumer offers a reliable sensor for continuous level
measuring within the product segment Process Instrumentation. Due to the
3A-approved process connection, the measuring rod is suitable also for
applications in the food and beverage industry as well as in
pharmaceutical and biochemistry. The device can be used for all media
that have a minimum conductivity of 1mS/cm. The measuring method is
based on a low resistive measuring rod which dips into a conductive
liquid and sends a high frequent current to the tank wall. The voltage
drop between the rod and the tank wall is measured in proportion to the
length of the wetted part of the rod and its total length. This output
voltage is proportional to the tank filling level.

Kistler Remains World Miniaturization
Champion |
| |
Kistler launched the smallest (front diameter of just 1 mm)
direct measuring mold cavity pressure sensor in the world (type
6183A...) back in 2003. Two new cavity pressure sensors in current
production are also extremely small: with a length of 4,4 mm the new
indirect measuring pressure sensor Type 9210A… is only slightly bigger
than a single granule.
The new direct measuring pressure sensor Type 6184A… has a front
diameter of 1,2 mm and length of just 6,4 mm.
Even under extremely tight mounting conditions the new sensors can
measure the cavity pressure for extremely small moldings reliably. The
side cable exit allows radial or axial mounting in molds. At the heart
of the sensors are the PiezoStar® crystals developed and grown in-house.
Their high sensitivity makes them the only way of achieving such extreme
miniaturization. The new sensors naturally exploit single-wire
technology to enable for multi-channel cabling. This method allows
connection of up to 8 sensors to the CoMo Injection process monitoring
system Type 2869A… or the DataFlow analysis system Type 2865A… with a
single cable. ... |
