Elektronik GmbH has succeeded in producing the first ever true
monolithic humidity / temperature sensor – the HMC01. The HMC01 design
is extraordinary, because on one and the same thin glass substrate the
temperature sensor and directly above the humidity sensor is located.
Conventional combined humidity / temperature sensors always consist of
two substrates glued together, each with one sensor. This causes several
practical and technical measurement problems. For example, if the two
substrates separate over time the thermal connection between the two
elements, which is very important to the accuracy, will be lost. Because
of its true monolithic design, the HMC01 combines the outstanding
properties of the high-quality capacitive humidity sensor, for which E+E
Elektronik is well known, with the additional function of a temperature
sensor on a single substrate, providing a number of technical
advantages. The HMC01 has been designed for stable and accurate humidity
and temperature measurements in demanding industrial applications. The
monolithic design creates an exceptional thermal connection between the
humidity and temperature element, allowing for extremely accurate
measurements in moderate to high levels of humidity. ... 
Launched
3 years ago at Testing Expo 2004 in Stuttgart, the PiezoSmart automatic
sensor identification system from Kistler now represents a world
standard for combustion analysis. Since then it has been possible to
sell more than 5 000 sensors with the system. Its modularity and
impressive flexibility facilitates retrofitting of existing sensors and
economical integration of custom requirements and other factors.
Customers in Europe, Asia, and the USA already have this technology in
place to safeguard their processes. PiezoSmart is supported by leading
manufacturers of combustion analysis systems. The PiezoSmart automatic
sensor identification system is available not only for piezoelectric and
piezoresistive pressure sensors but also for accelerometers. It is based
on the IEEE 1451.4 transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS) standard. At
its heart is a chip built into the connector of the sensor to store all
of the relevant sensor data. The data can therefore be used at any time
and location to automatically assign measuring chain parameters, save
operating data, or calibrate sensors. ...

announces a new member in the Omnipolar™, Micropower Hall effect switch
family. The MLX90248 employs CMOS technology to deliver a non-contact
magnetic switch with microwatt power consumption. Typical applications
are found in flip, slide and clamshell portable handsets, PDA’s and
personal entertainment devices. The MLX90248 detects the opening action
to wake up the device main functions and prepare for immediate use by
the operator. The newest member, Part Number MLX90248ELD, is in a low
profile Ultra-Thin QFN package that enhances the benefits of
pole-independent, micropower performance by providing for more compact
system design. The device also exhibits very high magnetic sensitivity
with accurate and reliable performance over the operating range due to
advanced dynamic offset cancellation technique incorporated on-chip. The
magnetic sensitivity of the MLX90248 is Omnipolar™ meaning that it can
be activated by either a North magnetic field or a South magnetic field.
The device switches ON in the presence of sufficiently strong magnetic
field (Bop) facing the marked side of the package. The output switches
