EYCON™ keeps an eye on the process |
| |
 |
Eurotherm has recently launched the new Eycon series of visual
supervisors. These visual supervisors provide multi-function control,
recording and visualization. Eurotherm have a long history of experience
in the control, data acquisition and process automation market and now
the Eycon Series brings that expertise into a single process unit. |
|
|
Eycon’s new visual supervisor technology incorporates some impressive
functionality that will allow users to completely manage a process. In
fact, engineers may class the Eycon visual supervisor as a mini DCS
which could easily be incorporated as a powerful component into a wider
system. The series has been designed to reduce configuration,
integration, installation and wiring costs while increasing accuracy,
quality and efficiency. Eycon visual supervisor instruments can be used
as a building block within larger systems communicating over Ethernet (ELIN). ... |

LEM introduces compact, high performance
current transducer for 400ARMS |
| |
|
LEM has introduced the LA 306-S, a panel-mounted current
transducer for the measurement of currents up to 400 ARMS (@ +70°C) or
300 ARMS (@ +85°C). The unit offers the high performance of a
closed-loop current transducer at a very competitive price. |
|
|
The new transducer is only 56mm high. It features a wide maximum
bandwidth of DC to 50kHz and an overall accuracy of better than 0.7 per
cent at the primary nominal RMS current. Typical linearity error is ±0.1
per cent at nominal current and the maximum offset temperature drift is
500 microamps from -40 to +85˚C. The closed-loop Hall-effect technology
results in no insertion losses and a fast response time of less than 1
microsecond. The transducer’s aperture accepts busbars up to 13 x 30mm.
Specified with 2000 turns as standard, it is also available with 5000,
4000 or 3000 turns on request. ... |

Ultrasound ensures safety |
| |
|
Ultrasonic flow measurement. The lathes produced by a manufacturer of
medical technology require a large quantity of cutting oil for producing
prostheses. Each lathe therefore features a tank which is filled
regularly by the operating staff. A stainless steel pipeline system
distributes the oil throughout the manufacturing process and dispenses
it at tap connections. |
|
|
Due to the risk of leaks and burst pipes, which could damage the
environment, insurance companies and regulatory authorities stipulate
that safety measures be put in place. KROHNE proposed measuring
the amount of cutting oil dispensed each time and closing a valve when a
plausible level is exceeded. This meant installing a UFM 3030K/BATCH
triple jet ultrasonic flowmeter at the start of the pipeline directly
before an electric valve. Thanks to the integrated BATCH function, the
amount of cutting oil dispensed can be limited to 50l, for example, for
each replenishment before the valve automatically closes. The valve
opens again when the operating staff remove the pump nozzle from the
holder to top up the cutting oil. This minimizes the risk of losing oil,
especially when the system stops. The UFM 3030's counter function ... |

BAP2 - New Alignment Sensor for Bucket
Elevators |
| |
 |
The BAP2 is a new, externally mounted non-contact alignment sensor
reading through a polycarbonate window in the elevator case. The fail
safe magnetic sensors remain unaffected by dust or product build up,
continuously monitoring the moving target with visual indication by LED. |
|
|
With a 25-75mm range, dependant on the size of the target, the BAP2 is a
powerful sensor. Adjustment can be done easily, either on the sensor
itself or from the optional independent control unit. The BAP2 sensor is
equally suited to elevators with steel or plastic buckets (by using bolt
heads as target) and it can also suit stainless buckets. -Please consult
our 4B engineers for more information. The BAP2 sensor can be linked
directly to a PLC or - for total security – to an independent control
unit, eg the A400 Elite, B400 Elite or the Watchdog Elite also from 4B
Braime, which are all ATEX approved for zones 21 and 22. ATEX Approved -

New low cost 13.56MHz RFID Transceiver IC
available for volume production |
| |
 |
Melexis, a leading supplier of RFID / NFC dedicated solutions,
announces the immediate availability of a Multi-Protocol Transceiver IC.
This new member of the NFC/13.56MHz family enables a broad range of
13.56MHz RFID interrogator designs. The MLX12115 is a low power
consumption device that supports portable and fixed reader designs
requiring tight footprint constraints. The IC minimizes onboard power
requirements and reduces parts count in a final reader product. |
|
|
With the addition of a micro-processor, crystal, and a few passive
components a full functioning reader can be easily developed. The
MLX12115 is a drop-in replacement of Texas Instruments’ S6700. The
device supports multiple RF air interfaces, such as Tag-it™ Transponder,
ISO15693 and ISO14443A and opens with the direct mode where data can be
passed directly to a transponder. The MLX12115 is now in volume
production and Melexis is committed to long term support of this
product. "Our MLX12115 can be seen as the successful pioneer of Melexis’
well known RFID High Frequency Transceivers ICs family, the MLX90121 and
its upgraded version, the MLX90131 which provides ... |
