Level Measuring for Shipping on the Rhine |
| |
|
With modern motor-powered ships, bilge water is normally contaminated
with oil and fuel residues. For this reason it cannot just be pumped out
into the water, and it must be disposed of correctly as a hazardous
material. The BIBO Regio is a bilge de-oiling boat on the Rhine, which
collects this bilge water in a buffer tank. |
|
|
The OPTIFLEX TDR meter from
KROHNE is used to monitor the level. The buffer tank is 2.8
meters high and can contain 18 cubic meters of bilge water.
As the Rhine Navigation Administration Basel was happy with the KROHNE
level meters used up to now, they exchanged an older model for the
current generation of OPTIFLEX type meters. Information: KROHNE. ... |

their small size and low power consumption, VTI`s sensors are ideal for
small portable battery-operated devices such as sports watches and
bicycle computers. In addition, the high accuracy and performance allows
for using movement and pressure data in novel ways, providing exciting
and performance enhancing information to all kinds of sports and fitness
applications. Altimeter for Adventure Watches, Bicycle Computers: When
altitude increases, pressure drops. The ultra-sensitive SCP1000 can
detect vertical movement with decimeter accuracy. Accurate altitude
information is crucial in the mountains, but can also be used for
determining slope angle when cycling. - Related products: SCP1000 Series
pressure sensor. Barometer for Handheld Weather Stations: A rapid drop
in barometric pressure usually indicates bad weather. This is useful
information for sailors, mountaineers and, even golfers, too. - Related
products: SCP1000 Series pressure sensors. Variometer for Outdoor
Watches, Paragliding: By measuring pressure change, vertical speed can
be determined. This provides important information both for mountaineers
to avoid altitude sickness and for paragliders to find suitable uplift.

New Larson Davis Impulse Sound Level
Meter for Firing Range Noise |
| |
|
November 16, 2006, Depew, NY, USA – The Soundtrack LxT® from Larson
Davis, is ideal for measuring the extremely high peak sound pressure
levels generated by gunfire. While many sound level meters cannot
consistently measure above 140 dB, the Soundtrack LxT®, with optional ¼
inch microphone, accurately measures peak levels exceeding 170 dB. Units
feature a high performance peak detector circuit with extremely fast
‘rise time’ response to short duration impulse events, such as those
generated on a firing range. |
|
|
The instrument is housed in a rugged case, and has a high contrast LCD
display, viewable in all conditions, including direct sunlight. Controls
are simple and clearly marked, and the lightweight unit may be operated
with one hand. Soundtrack LxT® offers an innovative approach to sound
measurement for compliance and worker noise exposure monitoring.
Available in Type 1 or Type 2 versions, the Soundtrack LxT® provides an
easy way to manage route or task-based workplace noise surveys. With
operator route prompts and digital voice annotation, surveys are done
quickly and easily by operators at all skill levels. ... |

Ultrasound - an ideal solution for heat
quantity measurement |
| |
|
At a district heating power station in Switzerland, four UFM 3030
ultrasound flowmeters from KROHNE are used for heat quantity
measurement in the primary and secondary circuits of a power station
with wood-powered output of 3.5 MW or an oil-powered output of 5 MW. As
the measuring pipes of the UFM 3030 are made of stainless steel and have
no moving parts, there is no additional pressure loss. |
|
|
Damage caused by small parts, which can break off from welded seams, is
also eliminated, meaning the operator does not need filters before the
meter. The Swiss company uses a temperature of 105°C in its facility.
This can lead to the creation of magnetite, which affects measurements
with electro-magnetic flowmeters. For the KROHNE UFM 3030 neither
magnetite nor the temperature cause difficulties. Even the basic version
can handle temperatures of up to 220°C, while the high temperature
version can handle up to 500°C. The broad measuring range is important
for the operator, as the capacity of 3.5 MW is soon to be doubled, which
will mean that flow rates will increase. ... |

New torque sensor will revolutionise
machine control |
| |
|
Machine designers have been presented with a significant new technology
for measuring power in drive shafts and other rotating machine elements,
following the launch of the RWT310/320 series of TorqSense Rotary Torque
Sensors by developers Sensor Technology Ltd. |
|
|
Unlike traditional slip ring transducers, the RWT units make use of a
simple non-contact measurement technique of a radio frequency (RF)
couple for power and signal communication. This means that the units are
mechanically straightforward and as such they stand to completely
redefine the expectations of machine builders and control engineers, who
to date have had to put considerable time and expense into obtaining the
accurate torque readings essential for accurate machine control and
production monitoring. They feature integral electronics with outputs
for torque, speed, power and angle. ... |

Safe4 Safeguards Tube Forming Machines |
| |
|
Tube forming is a manufacturing process where tubes or pipes are
manufactured. In this case, the tubes are produced so that they are
trumpet-shaped or flared at both ends. The German automobile component
supplier uses this process for the production of car seats. Here, tubes
are flared using tumbling equipment and fixed as struts in the backrest
of the car seat. |
|
|
To ensure the operator is not at risk from the moving tool holder,
Faurecia installed the Safe4 safety light curtain as a cascading system.
The cascading system enables vertical and horizontal monitoring with
only one integrated controller. According to Ulrich Blank, the project
leader from CEDES GmbH in Germany, Faurecia were incredibly
impressed with, among other things, the optimal flexibility and
price-performance ratio of the Safe4 system. ... |

A RoaDyn® for Retrofitting Tire Test
Stands |
| |
|
The RoaDyn P650TT is a new variant of the tried and tested 9298B1Q03
RoaDyn P650 with System 2000 technology. It was developed specifically
for use on tire and wheel test stands, on which it is mounted like a
normal wheel. This avoids any need to modify the design of the stand to
allow retrofitting with this system. A universal wheel adapter allows
direct mounting of standard wheels or rims on the system. |
|
|
The system itself remains permanently mounted on the test stand to
achieve the same universality as a measuring hub. Significantly, it has
the special advantage of measuring all six components so it can
simultaneously act as a torque measuring shaft. The signals are
conditioned and digitized before leaving the measuring system, then
transferred to the control electronics via a noncontact, wear free, near
field telemetry system. This avoids any cables getting in the way of
installing the wheel. The fixed position of the noncontact crank angle
encoder on the back of the wheel remains unaltered when the wheel is
changed. Digital data transmission ensures optimal signal quality free
from noise and interference. ... |
