VTI offers unique sensor solution for use
in vehicles |

VTI Technologies, the major manufacturer of high-performance
motion and pressure sensors for automotive and consumer related
applications, is launching a best-in-class accelerometer and
inclinometer platform for vehicle stability control and related systems
worldwide. The new VTI automotive digital accelerometer platform is
intended for single and multiple axis acceleration and inclination
measurement. It has been developed to meet the most demanding needs of
vehicle electronic systems using digital signal processing, introducing
several important safety features such as continuous self-test. The
components form a complete set of low-g accelerometers with the same
mechanical design and SPI-interface. They are small in size, high in
performance and require only one PCB design for all versions. They cover
acceleration and inclination measurements in applications like
Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assistant (HSA),
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Roll Stability, Roll Over and
Electrically Controlled Suspension. The multiple options for each car
platform can be covered with one ECU or sensor cluster design by
selecting the appropriate sensor version from VTI's new accelerometer

OPTIWAVE in the aluminum industry |

Hindalco Industries Ltd. (India) has several KROHNE OPTIWAVE
radar level gauges installed in its plant in Belgaum. One OPTIWAVE is
installed on a tank with an agitator with 4 stages of blades. The
product layer contains a great deal of foam, so that a considerable
quantity of fumes is produced. These fumes can make a 15mm thick antenna
coating in just 15 minutes; KROHNE therefore recommends a cone-like
structure with holes. |

The tank has more pressure than atmosphere and because of this the fumes
are pulled away from the antenna towards the holes and emerge from these
holes. The instrument is programmed to take care of the rotating
agitator. Another application is an open tank where maintaining a full
level is a mandatory requirement of the customer. This is a hazardous
area where humans can not stay for more than two minutes even with
protective masks. In another open tank caustic lye falls from 5 inlets,
producing more fumes. The antenna is continuously kept clean with air to
prevent the fumes from entering the antenna. A metal casing is placed

VTI Technologies Oy and ActeComponents UK, have signed a
distributor agreement. According to the agreement, ActeComponent UK
sells and markets VTI`s motion and pressure sensors in UK and Ireland. "VTI`s
latest new products, the SCA3000 (3-axis accelerometer) and the SCP1000
(pressure sensor) address new applications and new business segments.
The cooperation with ActeComponents UK makes it possible for us to
capitalize on these new opportunities as we expand our visibility and
improve customer service in UK and Ireland", says Harry Lilja, Business

Joining processes such as spot welding, clinching or riveting can now be
analyzed on the spot with the welding & fastening monitor (WFM) Type
5825A2 from Kistler. In combination with the welding force
calibration sensor Type 9831C… this handy and batterypowered device
forms an effective mobile measuring system for analysis and optimization
of welding and joining processes. |

The force curves are recorded and post-cycle evaluation performed
directly on the production machine. The monitor's outstanding
versatility is evident from its three modes: welding, fastening and
voltmeter. For welding the monitor plots electrode force against time.
In combination with the welding current switching signal, the relevant
process variables are determined for each welding cycle. These variables
then allow analysis and optimization of the welding process. In the
fastening mode, a welding force calibration transmitter with suitable
inserts can also measure the curve exhibited by a clinching or riveting
force. As a voltmeter the monitor measures digital voltages with an

MLX71122 is the first member of a new highly integrated RF receiver
family. This new automotive qualified IC has been specifically designed
for applications in the unlicensed Industrial-Scientific-Medical (ISM)
and Short-Range-Devices (SRD) frequency bands. All multi-channel,
multi-band and frequency-agile telemetry systems benefit from the
receiver’s programmable PLL. This enables addressing all sub-bands of
the European 863 - 870MHz band just by software. Even large frequency
jumps across regionally different bands like the US 315MHz and the
European 433MHz are possible without changing the RF hardware.
Manufacturers of world-wide equipment for automotive Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) and (Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) or consumer and
industrial system makers benefit through the simplification of their
