ESPROS/SEC Watches Over Airport Elevators

The intelligent camera sensor ESPROS/SEC ensures that unauthorized personnel are unable to use an elevator to gain entry to restricted areas. ESPROS/SEC recognizes whether someone is inside the elevator and only allows the elevator to accept a hall call travel if no one is inside the elevator cabin.
The application possibilities are extremely diverse. Like, for example, at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (USA), where ESPROS/SEC camera sensors make sure that no unauthorized personnel can get to the runway via the elevators. Other, typical applications for ESPROS/SEC include penthouse apartments, bank strongrooms or vaults, or VIP areas in public buildings (hotels, governmental buildings, banks). ESPROS/SEC is very easy to install and as a stand-alone system requires no external controller neither for operation nor configuration. ...

ICSO paper highlights first-class technology behind e2v’s image sensor for Pleiades satellites
A joint technical paper by CNES, e2v technologies and Alcatel Alenia Space presented at the International Conference on Space Optics (ICSO) in June has highlighted the strength in the design and performance of the e2v image sensor chosen for the Pleiades High Resolution Earth observation satellites. The paper, titled “Back-thinned TDI CCD image sensor design and performance for the Pleiades High Resolution Earth observation satellites” was presented on 28 June at ICSO 2006 at the ESA/ESTEC site in the Netherlands. It provided an overview of the Pleiades-HR mission and satellite, details on the satellite’s CCD (charge coupled device) focal plane, and a discussion of the panchromatic channel architecture in the focal plane. e2v technologies has developed a time delay and integration (TDI) mode CCD98 image sensor specifically for the Pleiades-HR programme, under contract with CNES (Centre National D’Etudes Spatiales). Five of these sensors are destined for the panchromatic channel of the focal plane. The e2v devices are back-illuminated for high quantum efficiency and sensitivity. Their TDI format enables them to capture high resolution images. They offer 6,000 active pixels per line and a pixel size and pitch of 13μm square. An architecture with anti-blooming structure in each pixel ensures that image outputs are not jeopardised (smeared) by specular reflections. The CCDs ...

LEM introduces compact split-core transducers for high AC and DC currents

LEM has introduced the AHR series of AC and DC current transducers that offer versatile and precise measurement of nominal currents up to 2000A true RMS, extending the existing family that ranges from 100A to 1000A. These split-core transducers combine Hall-effect technology and signal conditioning in a compact case to offer substantial savings in size (more than 50% compared to existing current transformers). They measure only 174 x 86 x 54.1 mm.
Devices in the AHR series have been designed to measure DC signals as well as distorted current waveforms such as variable frequency drive (VFD) outputs. They offer a choice of primary current measurement ranges from 500A to 2000A, a choice of standard output types (4-20mA, 0-5V or 0-10V), a wide power supply range (20 to 50 VDC) and large sensing apertures for non-contact measurement (104 x 40 mm busbar, in addition to a 32 mm  cable version). The new transducers provide an absolute accuracy better than 1 percent of the nominal current over a broad range of inputs. This, coupled with a wide bandwidth from DC to 6kHz, an operating range of -40 to +70°C and true RMS computation for non-linear loads or "noisy" environments, makes them an excellent choice for industrial system designers, system integrators and automation distributors looking for accurate and cost-effective AC or DC current transducers. ...

Zero Defect Press-Fit Assembly Enabled by Force Monitoring

Press fitting of bearings, bushings or shafts, for example in housings or gearboxes, can be monitored very accurately through the variation in the pressing force over the displacement. The characteristic nature of this force curve allows evaluation of the quality of process and tool. ControlMonitors from Kistler analyze the curve and decide whether or not the assembly is acceptable.
CoMo brand control monitors record the interdependent measurement variables of pressing force and displacement in pairs during the press-fit process. They display their functional relationship as shown in the diagram below and evaluate it at the end of the cycle. Process evaluation: To reveal deviations from a reference part, a reference curve determined from an optimal press-fit process can be stored in the CoMo and shown in blue. The press-fit process is evaluated on the basis of thresholds, tolerance boxes and stop position windows. These objects can be almost freely defined in terms of position, size and type of evaluation (entry, exit and transit, minimum and maximum force, etc). To obtain a part that is acceptable the measured curve must pass through the chosen evaluation objects as defined. Entry and exit sides are highlighted in green and the direction in which the curve passes through them shown by an arrow. Red limits must not be breached. A maximum of 12 evaluation objects may be freely combined. ...
