e2v technologies’ CCD image sensors make
significant contributions to space science |
| |
e2v’s imaging CCD (charge coupled device) technology is making
significant contributions to space science. Currently orbiting Mars,
Venus and Earth, amongst other planetary bodies, the image sensing
technology is helping to provide unprecedented scientific data on the
planets in our solar system. Programmes that e2v is involved with
include ESA’s Venus Express, ESA’s Mars Express, NASA’s Mars
Reconnaissance Orbiter and ESA’s Envisat. ESA’s Venus Express commenced
its orbit of Venus on 11 April, five months after its launch from
Kazakhstan. An e2v startracking device incorporated into the
spacecraft’s startracker camera has been scanning the stars as it
travels, in order to help guide the craft to Venus, our nearest
planetary neighbour. The imaging device in the startracker will next
help to pinpoint targets to support the study of the chemistry and
composition of Venus’ hot, high pressure atmosphere. Data collected
across approximately 500 Earth days will provide unprecedented detail on
the planet’s surface and history, and should help scientists to
understand more about climate change on Earth. This specialist design of
high resolution and high sensitivity CCD is proving popular with
missions of this type. A similar sensor ... |

4B Touchswitch |
| |
 |
Belt misalignment on an elevator is a problem that is difficult to solve
because it needs to be adapted for each elevator and type of elevator.
When traditional techniques are used such as inductive, magnetic and
capacitance sensors, different factors need to be considered: |
|
|
elevator size, bucket size, bucket type (steel, stainless steel,
“plastic”, aluminium…), type of transported product, because in this case it is the
buckets that the sensors detect. This is not always easy and sometimes difficult to realize. The TOUCHSWITCH is a new type of stainless steel sensor that has been
designed to solve the problem of belt misalignment detection in zone 20
on conveyors and especially on elevators. The Touchswitch reacts to the
pressure exerted on its front cover by the misaligned belt or pulley.
The sensor communicates with a relay contact which triggers an alarm or
stops the machine. ... |

Ubiwave and ZMD Introduce first full
Sub-1 GHz Mesh Networking Workbench |
| |
Combined UbiNet™ mesh network using ZMD44102 RF transceivers opens up
new markets for reliable wireless control. Zele, Belgium and Embedded
Systems Conference Silicon Valley, USA – Ubiwave and ZMD today
announced the availability of its complete ‘sub-1 GHz workbench’
solution built on top of the ZMD44102 RF transceiver. The ZMD44102 is
being launched by ZMD at the Embedded Systems Show in San Jose,
California. The ZMD44102 is the only commercially available IEEE
802.15.4 compliant sub-1 GHz transceiver and is software configurable to
operate in frequency bands available in most parts of the world. The
sub-1 GHz workbench solution complements Ubiwave’s existing offering of
2.4GHz solutions already deployed in the fields of safety & security and
healthcare. It opens up the field for specific applications where range
and performance requirements cannot be met by other technologies, e.g.
in the field of asset management and automated meter reading (‘AMR’).
These solutions need low power, long range communication, and very high
reliability, now offered by the combination of the UbiNet™ mesh
networking protocol and the ZMD44102. The UbiNet™ mesh network solution
is a one-stop-shop offering for integrating wireless mesh technology
into sensor products. ... |

Type 4005A... – Absolute Pressure
Measurement |
| |
|
The M5-size piezoresistive pressure sensor Type 4005A... is designed for
measuring absolute pressure in engines. A so-called DCE sensor (DCE =
Direct Chip Exposure), it does not have a steel diaphragm for separating
media, but is exposed directly to the medium. |
|
|
The piezoresistive silicon measuring element is placed behind a
protective shield and provided with a protective coating. Thanks to a
special coating the sensor is able to withstand typical fuel and
lubricating oil vapours. A good deal of flexibility in mounting is
achieved thanks to the sensor’s compact design, so that it can always be
located in the optimum position for measurements in the intake system.
In addition to small dimensions, this design achieves superb linearity,
low hysteresis and a high natural frequency. Used in conjunction with
the piezoresistive amplifier module, the SCP signal conditioning system
and PiezoSmart® automatic sensor identification, the new Type 4005A...
constitutes a powerful measuring system which is very easy to operate. ... |

PCIM Europe 2006 - Analog and
Mixed-Signal-ASICs and ASSPs for Low Power and High Voltage Applications |
| |
 |
PREMA Semiconductor is exhibiting for the first time at this year's PCIM
Europe in Nuremberg from 30 May to 01 June 2006. Our location is Hall
12, Booth 12-345. The German semiconductor manufacturer PREMA
Semiconductor GmbH offers in-house production of analog and
mixed-signal ASICs for medium and high quantities. |
|
|
The applied ModuS U6 process allows to realize ICs with supply voltages
from 0.9V up to 100V. Further on, PREMA now offers ASSPs for several
applications. At this year´s PCIM the new LED drivers will be
demonstrated. One example is the new 0.9V-driver PR4401 that supplies up
to three white LEDs out of one 1.5V battery cell. Because only one
external component is required, it is particularly suited for
small-sized applications such as LED torches or LCD backlighting.
Another ASSP is the PR4004, that allows to operate a 40-channel LED
display with an external microcontroller. ... |

| |
 |
From now on, the OPTIFLUX 4300 electromagnetic flowmeter has OIML R117
approval. This makes KROHNE’s EMF suitable for all measurements
of liquids apart from water in business dealings. OPTIFLUX 4300 finds
use throughout the process industry, but also in Chemicals, Food and
Beverage, Pulp and Paper, Water and Wastewater, Steel and Mining. |
|
|
The OIML approval means that users in business dealings applications now
also have the opportunity to utilize in their plants the 3 x 100%
diagnosis feature that is unique to OPTIFLUX The 3 x 100%
diagnosis feature of OPTIFLUX covers the normal device-diagnosis. But
KROHNE is the first, and to date only, supplier to augment these with
100% standard instrument diagnosis, 100% application diagnosis and 100%
