Level measurement for low dielectric
constants |
| |
 |
Low dielectric constants present most guided radar (TDR) level meters
with almost insoluble problems. Under such conditions, OPTIFLEX from
KROHNE has already proven its effectiveness repeatedly. At Xella,
the leading supplier of calcium-silicate brick and aerated concrete
products and services, OPTIFLEX performed convincingly even at a
dielectric of 1.16. |
|
|
At Xella Trockenbau-System GmbH’s Calbe plant near Magdeburg, perlite
had to be measured in a 15 m high silo. Perlite is an extremely light
powder and is used for the manufacture of AESTUVER-brand dry lining
boards. A particular feature of perlite is its low dielectric constant,
which has prevented conventional TDR meters from reliably measuring the
level. However, KROHNE’s new level meters, including OPTIFLEX, feature
the so-called TBF (tank bottom following) mode, which detects the probe
end return signal rather than a direct reflection from the product
surface. In the case of products with poor reflective properties the
level meter is able to see through the product and determine the
position of the probe end.

NEW FemtoCap™ Humidity Sensor |
| |
 |
Announcement of FemtoCap™: Worlds Smallest Discrete Humidity Sensor.
Measuring only 2 x 4 mm (SMD 0402M), the FemtoCap™ (www. femtocap.com)
exhibits the smallest dimensions of SMT compatible capacitive humidity
sensors on the market today. Its super-linear transfer function, well
known from its predecessors P14 and P14 SMD, could very well be
maintained despite its smaller dimensions. |
|
|
This substantially saves calibration time and cost. Offering a base
capacitance of 180 pF, and a basic steepness of 0.3 pF per percent
relative humidity, it is practically design compatible to the P14 SMD.
The FemtoCap™ is targeted to markets as automotive and white goods,
where cost reduction is of outmost importance. This sensor also opens
new application areas like low cost humidifiers, dishwashers,
cloth-dryers, home weather displays, and toys, up to now being widely
populated by low accuracy resistive sensors due to cost reasons. IST
offers a wide range of heavy-duty capacitive humidity sensors to the
market, all fully dewing resistant.

Xsens has released MTi and MTx versions with a unique acceleration
range of +/- 5g |
| |
 |
5g version MTi and MTx. Xsens has released MTi and MTx versions
with a unique acceleration range of +/- 5g. Both the MTi (miniature
Attitude and Heading Reference System) and the MTx (3DOF Orientation
Tracker) are now available with this new measurement range, which
provides excellent performance to many new applications. |
|
|
The addition of a 5g version is a very useful extension of our product
offering because there are many applications in which accelerations
above 1.7g occur (our current standard). Especially this can be
important in situations where vibrations also play a role. Furthermore,
the performance of the 5g accelerometer is superior to our current 10g
offering. Its noise levels, bias stability and linearity are on par with
the 1.7g version. The reason for this is that the 5g version is based on
the same next-generation MEMS core as the 1.7g and thus it delivers
almost the same high performance. The 5g acceleration sensor is a unique
'factory special', and the MTi and MTx with this range are offered for
the same price as the 1.7g version. ... |

Preparing signals – low noise and highly
sensitive |
| |
 |
MAZeT GmbH, the leading system vendor for industrial electronics,
is to use Embedded World 2006 to present the MTI04CS/CQ to the public
for the first time – the second generation of multi-channel,
programmable transimpedance amplifiers: New multi-channel transimpedance
amplifier MTI04CS/CQ from MAZeT as part of the JENCOLOUR product range. |
|
|
The new JENCOLOUR signal amplifier has been significantly improved in
terms of input sensitivity and dynamic characteristics. The MTI circuits
are designed for use in preparing signals from sensors with current
outputs. The higher sensitivity and greater dynamics of the amplifier
make it possible to connect the photo diodes of array and row sensors,
such as the new JENCOLOUR true colour sensor MTCSiCx, even at low light
volumes and high dynamics when alternating intensity or colour. The MTI
circuits conform to ROHS and are supplied in optimum housing forms (SMD)
for COB assembly. We can produce other designs such as ‘naked’ chip and
alternatives upon request. The MTI04CS/CQ is available in two housing
types – SOP16 (MTI04CS) and QSOP16 (MTI04CQ). ... |

KROHNE’S UFM 3030 cuts waste and rework |
| |
 |
Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK Ltd has installed five KROHNE UFM
3030 flowmeters at its manufacturing plant in Lancashire. The
instruments accurately measure the flow of hot ultra-pure water used in
the production of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The UFM 3030s have
been installed as part of an instrumentation upgrade to the company’s
PTFE production plant. |
|
|
The water flowmeters provide data to a newly
installed Distributed Control System (DCS).
The ultra-pure water is produced on the plant and undergoes several
processes to provide the quality of water required for the manufacture
of PTFE. Accurate control of the amount of water used during manufacture
is critical for production quality. As PTFE is a high value material,
waste and rework can substantially increase cost of manufacture. The
flowmeters ensure that the correct amount of water is charged and that
there has been no under or over-charging. The UFM 3030s replaced
obsolete vortex flow meters that could not deliver the level of accuracy
now required, and whose signals were not directly compatible with the
new DCS.

MAZeT GmbH, the leading system vendor for industrial electronics,
focuses on the development of ASICs, ASSPs and embedded computing
components for mobile and stationary applications, also used to an
increasing extent by customers in outdoor areas. |
|
|
Construction of company climate test laboratory: As the result of
ever-increasing performance requirements for components and ICs, MAZeT
is investing in the construction of its own climate test laboratory with
extensive measurement technology devices and equipment, such as
thermostream, climate cabinets and test systems. This makes it possible
to shorten reaction times in the development process and fulfil customer
requirements more fully. In future, MAZeT will carry out all standard
tests resulting from product applications in-house, providing a better
service to its customers combined with higher development quality and
reliability. ... |

New Larson Davis HVManager™ Helps Meets
EC and ISO Directives & Standards |
| |
 |
March 24, 2006, Provo, UT, USA – Larson Davis has introduced the
Human Vibration Meter (HVM) utility software, known as HVManager™, for
Vibration Exposure Assessment and Management, designed to provide
instantaneous tool assessments to all new standards, including the HSE
recommended points system; EU physical agents directive 2002/44/EC; ISO
5349; and ISO 2631. |
|
|
With an easy to use Graphic User Interface (GUI) and one click of a
button, HVM 100 data can be downloaded directly from the instrument and
saved into a tool database. This permits vibrating equipment users and
manufacturers to create databases of HVM100 Human Vibration Meter
measurements for hand-arm and whole-body vibration. Daily vibration
exposure for a worker using multiple tools for varying activities can
then be generated in a single report. ... |

OPTIFLEX now also remote |
| |
 |
The guided radar OPTIFLEX 1300 C from KROHNE is now also
available as remote version. Thus, the converter may be installed in a
certain distance from the measurement, e.g. if there is a potential risk
for either the operating personal or the converter itself. |
|
|
OPTIFLEX in
remote version is especially used if the space to install it on the tank
is insufficient.
Apart from that, tanks may be exposed to strong vibrations. The
available standard distance between flange and converter is between two
and 15 meters. Information: KROHNE Messtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Thomas
