e2v image sensors help NASA to study New Horizons |
| |
CCD (charge coupled device) imaging devices from sensing
technology leader, e2v technologies, have rocketed into space
with NASA’s world-first New Horizons mission to Pluto. The sensors,
incorporated into the spacecraft’s Ralph and LORRI science instruments,
will help to provide unprecedented image data on the planet. New
Horizons will collect key information on the surface, composition and
atmosphere of Pluto and its orbital companion Charon. e2v technologies
supplied a total of 27 CCDs for the spacecraft’s Ralph instrument, five
of which were flight devices. These sensors will enable high-resolution
mapping of Pluto and Charon’s surfaces. The visible and infrared Ralph
spectrometer will provide composition, colour and thermal maps for
scientific analysis. Further e2v sensors in the telescopic camera LORRI,
the spacecraft’s Long Range Reconnaissance Imager, will help to provide
extremely high resolution and highly detailed images of Pluto, its large
moon Charon, and its two newly discovered smaller moons. ... |

KROHNE – The benchmark for calibration |
| |
 |
The method used to calibrate a meter prior to shipment is key to its
subsequent performance in the plant. KROHNE has been
manufacturing flowmeters for over 80 years. Before any of its
electromagnetic or ultrasonic meters are shipped to a customer, they are
wet-calibrated by direct comparison of volumes. |
|
|
This is the most accurate method of all.
Coriolis flowmeters are calibrated by comparing masses using high
precision calibrated scales. Accuracy and reproducibility are key
quality attributes of a flowmeter. The PTB’s (German national metrology
institute) transfer standard relies on KROHNE flowmeters. Transfer
standards generally ensure the accuracy of calibration rigs from
manufacturers of measuring instruments. KROHNE is PTB’s transfer
standard. The PTB uses a mobile measuring station with a measuring
section consisting of several electromagnetic KROHNE flowmeters and
fixed inlet and outlet runs to validate other calibration rigs with
respect to transfer standard reproducibility (0.02% of measured value).

TLS 250W – When Extra Safety is not just
a Luxury |
| |
 |
The elevator manufacturer, ThyssenKrupp France, was commissioned to
further defuse the dangerous area in front of the elevator doors. It was
obvious for ThyssenKrupp that only a 3D monitoring system could help.
ThyssenKrupp ultimately found the ideal solution in the TLS 250W diffuse
reflective sensor from CEDES. |
|
|
With the installed TLS 250W the dangerous area directly in front of the
elevator doors at ROLEX is now additionally observed. Persons or objects
are reliably detected during the entire door closing process. If a
potential hazard is recognized, the door controller receives the
corresponding signal. The door is reopened in sufficient time to avoid
injury to people or damage to material. As the ingenious sensor can be
coupled with practically any light curtain irrespective of manufacturer,
TLS 250W is predestined for the modernization of existing 2D
safeguarding systems. ... |

New Air Velocity Transmitter Series EE75
from E+E Elektronik |
| |
 |
Measurement of Air and Gas Speed, Temperature and Volume in Industrial
Applications. The new air velocity transmitter EE75 from E+E
Elektronik has been designed for accurate measurement of air speed
and gas flow between 0 and 40m/s (0…8000ft/min).
The high-quality hot film sensor element is based on state of the art
thin film technology and guarantees highest sensitivity even at very low
mass flows. |
|
|
The innovative construction of the sensing head reduces to a minimum the
impact of the mounting angle on the measurement results. The EE75 can
detect and measure even smallest flow changes due to temperature
variation, whereby resulting fluctuations of the output signal can be
suppressed by the user by software settings. The temperature
compensation integrated in EE75 reduces to minimum the influence of
temperature on the gas velocity measurement. The robust metal housing
allows the use of EE75 at process temperatures between -40 and 120°C
(-40…248°F). ... |

NO2: First Sensor in New Metal Oxide
Sensor Line |
| |
 |
Longmont, CO February 14, 2006: Synkera Technologies Inc.
announces the launch of a new family of sensors based on technology from
specialist sensor materials developer Atmospheric Sensors LLC. Synkera
and Atmospheric Sensors had signed an agreement in January (see the
Synkera Press Release dated January 17, 2006) to work together in making
innovations to metal oxide sensors that are currently not available in
the marketplace. |
|
|
This line of sensors is the first development as a result of this
working arrangement. The first product in this sensor family is a
high-performance sensor for measuring NO2 that offers high sensitivity
over a wide range of concentrations of the gas in air combined with a
high stability and low response to humidity.
The Synkera/ASL product will tolerate a
wide range of temperature, pressure and humidity levels in addition to
the usual rugged performance of a metal oxide sensor. The sensor also
shows excellent performance in detecting gas concentrations from 0 to
over 200ppm. Existing NO2 sensors in the market today do not cover such
an extensive range. This sensor shows good selectivity and virtually no
response to ammonia or carbon monoxide. ... |

Using the latest portable Flow Measurement
Technology |
| |
 |
Cross correlation method with triple redundant level measurement for
reliable, high accurate and comfortable measurement of extraneous water,
wastewater, sludges and chemically polluted water from nightly discharge
up to flood. In many cases, users are facing almost unsolvable problems
when it comes to choose and to use portable flow measurement technology. |
|
|
Many times media with pollution loads such as sludge, solids, fibres and
grease have to be measured without the risk of measurement failures as
well as clear water from influents or ground water intruding the channel
system. Additionally, there is very often an extreme discharge behaviour,
ranging from volumes tending to zero up to pressurized discharge or
backwater within the sewer system. The measurement methods used until
now (magnetic-inductive methods, Doppler sensors and similar) very often
did not meet these requirements. This is why faulty measurement results
or even measurement failures occured. ... |
