SHT21
Humidity Sensor – AEC-Q100
reliability confirmed again |
| |
Sensirion’s
new SHT21 humidity and
temperature sensor has now been qualified in
accordance with the AEC-Q100 automotive standard. This confirms the
outstanding reliability, stability and robustness of the sensor, which
has been in regular production since April 2010. Successful AEC-Q100
qualification is remarkable in the sense that humidity sensors, unlike
fully encapsulated electronic components, are constantly exposed to
their surroundings and sensitive to ambient conditions. During the
qualification process, the SHT21 was put through the series of tests
specified by AEC-Q100. In the High Temperature Operating Lifetime (HTOL)
test, the sensor was operated at 125°C for 1000 hours to test its aging
characteristics. The 96-hour Unbiased Highly Accelerated Stress Test (UHST)
at 130°C and 85% relative humidity confirmed the sensor’s stress
resistance. Furthermore, the package was tested in the Temperature
Cycling (TC) test with 1000 cycles between -50°C and +150°C, which
measures the compatibility of the packaging material with the chip and
the substrate. The series concluded with the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests, which indicate the
robustness of the sensor with regard to these two parameters. The SHT21
humidity sensor passed all of the tests ... |

4B Bulldog - Conveyor Belt Alignment &
Rip Detection System |
| |
The
Bulldog is a new addition to 4B’s range of hazard monitoring
components. A belt alignment and rip detection switch, this
electro-mechanical system has been designed to detect dangerous
misalignment of the conveyor and also detection of belt tear damage. The
switch will detect horizontal misalignment of belts when contact is made
with the roller, the roller arm will be forced to pivot by the belt
activating a switch at 15º to trigger an alarm, and 30º to trigger a
shut down procedure of the conveyor. The sensors are usually installed
in pairs on opposite sides of the belt. A steel flexible wire is set
below the running conveyor belt approx 20-30mm attached by a rare earth
magnet at each end. If the belt is ripped or damaged the wire is pulled
away releasing the magnet connection which in turn will activate a
switch. ... |

Smart Alternative to Vibrating Fork Level
Switches |
| |
With
the level switch LBFS, Baumer offers a cost-efficient and
reliable alternative to widely-used vibration
level switches. The device
is able to detect the level of viscous or dry substances as well as
liquids and can be mounted in any position in tanks or pipelines. The
sensor is unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, and suspended
solids. As the sensor head is smooth and very small, even adhesive media
do not stick to it. The sensor’s short response time enables fast
filling processes as well as an accurate and reliable keeping of levels.
The level switch detects high and low levels in tanks and pipelines.
Furthermore, it can be used for overfill protection, dry running
protection of pumps and phase separation in oil-water mixtures. There
are many fields of applications: drinking water, wastewater, filtration,
HVAC, hydraulics, oil and gas, bio energy, wood pellets, flour mills,
railway transportation or pump systems. The sensor is mounted in a
compact, very robust, and corrosion-resistant stainless steel housing. ... |

| RLI Shaker – Rotary Level
Indicator |
| |
4B
BRAIME Components LTD: The RLI “Shaker” rotary paddle switch
is used to detect high / low levels of bulk granular solids in
bins, tanks and silos. It can also be used to detect plug
conditions in spouts, where long life and failsafe detection is
required. Utilizing a unique stepper motor drive, the RLI
“Shaker” rotates clockwise, then counter-clockwise and then
shakes to shed any excess material build up. If the paddle
rotation is impeded at any time by the bulk material then the
electronic circuit provides a signal for level indication or
control. The RLI “Shaker” uses fewer mechanical parts compared
with standard
rotary level indicators. No gearbox or clutch is
required as the stepper motor drive is directly coupled to the
output shaft and is practically indestructible and cannot be
damaged by forced or backwards rotation. Also, an adjustable
torque control allows ... |

New hall sensor for applications in
rolling stock |
| |
Baumer’s
new MTRM 16 hall sensor was specifically developed for the contact-free
pulse detection of fast-spinning gear wheels. With its robust metal
housing it is predestined for the use in harsh conditions. The sensor
was particularly optimized for applications in railway gear boxes and
therefore meets all of the demanding requirements for the employment in
this industry. The very compact
hall sensor picks up the rotational direction as well as rpm speed
of gear wheels with up to 20,000 pulses per second. Due to the
non-contact measuring principle, the sensor is maintenance-free, thereby
guaranteeing long-term trouble-free use. At the same time it is very
robust and temperature-resistant. Thanks to the completely sealed and
coated all-metal housing, the sensor may be exposed continuously to gear
box lubrication oils. Its optimized housing design with integrated
O-ring allows fast and easy installation. The notably robust housing
design qualifies the sensor not only for the direct integration into the
railway gear box or the engine ... |

Scientific investigations prove adverse
effects from contamination in reflecting ultrasonic flowmeters are a
myth |
| |
Krohne:
Ultrasonic flowmeters for custody-transfer measurement of natural gas
are prone to contamination. There have been continuous allegations that
ultrasonic flowmeters with soiled reflectors will measure
inaccurately due to the contamination on the reflectors. Up to today,
there have been no test results that will withhold this allegation.
Exhaustive investigations at the EON Ruhrgas high-pressure gas testing
facility in Lintorf (Germany) on possible effects of contamination on
ultrasonic flowmeters (UFM) have irrefutably shown that the accuracy
is not affected by the reflection principle. Indeed, the investigations
substantiate a significant advantage of reflection technology; actually
compared to direct path measurement the level of contamination can be
recognised from the reflection properties of the acoustic signal. ... |

The new MLD 500 and MLD 300 series—simply
innovative |
| |
Leuze
electronic presents Multiple Light Beam Safety Devices and, for the
first time, 3-beam Transceiver systems as well in various function
classes for access guarding, also with Muting. And no additional modules
are necessary! It is advantageous from a cost effectiveness and optimum
usability standpoint to use safety sensors that are characterized by
functions that match the specific requirements of the given application
as closely as possible. Leuze electronic developed the new MLD 300 (type
2, PLd) and MLD 500 (type 4, PLe) series Multiple Light Beam Safety
Devices especially with this in mind. The individual models of the
respective series are equipped with certain features and capabilities
(function classes). By selecting a given function class, the user can
appropriately determine the performance of his safety sensor for the
application and the respective requirements. For example, the
start/restart interlock and contactor monitoring functions are available
and, if necessary, various Muting modes can be selected. As a result,
the series can be used both as standard access guarding as well as for
applications where sequential, parallel or partial Muting is required.
