The pico+ sensor family now has an
analogue addition |
| |
The
future belongs to the IO-Link. Even so, there is still a long life left
for the ultrasonic sensor with analogue output. That is why
microsonic GmbH has now extended the M18 pico+ product range with
sensors of a 0–10 voltage output and a 4–20 mA current output. The pico+
ultrasonic sensors are the smallest M18 sensors in the
manufacturer's range. They have a 30 mm blind zone and a slim beam
spread. Thanks to a 0.2 mm resolution they even scan small objects with
a maximum degree of precision. All pico+ sensors can be had in 3 ranges
and 2 housing variants. The proven microsonic teach-in procedure allows
the analogue characteristic to be set and the output characteristic
switched over from the rising to the falling one. Both the switching
design of the IO-Link interface and the analogue pico+ sensors are
supported by the microsonic LinkControl software for ... |

Kistler's Lorch Production Site
Commissions New Calibration Unit for Torque Sensors and Torque Systems |
| |
Kistler
has commissioned an additional calibration unit for torque sensors on
its Lorch production site. Acceptance and accreditation by the DAkkS
(formerly DKD) in December 2009 means Kistler's Center of Excellence for
Torque Sensors now has two high-precision calibration units approved by
this German accreditation body. The new system for sensors with a torque
rating of up to 5 000 N•m is a machine with a sliding weight, automated
calibration sequence and automatic disturbance variable compensation.
New software now allows automated adjustment and calibration of
torque
sensors. The very low best measurement capability of 100 ppm is a sound
basis for extremely accurate development and calibration of torque
sensors. Outside the "Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt" in
Brunswick there are only two other calibration units in Germany with
similar characteristics and best measurement capabilities for this type
of measurement. As the new unit likewise determines the best measurement
capability of the calibrated sensors, in future Kistler can also issue
its customers calibration certificates that are more detailed in this
respect. These best measurement capabilities ... |

Contact Elements allow Easy Equipment of
Complex Injection Molding Tools with Pressure Sensors for Quality
Assurance |
| |
Kistler,
leading technology provider in the global market for sensors and process
monitoring and quality assurance systems for injection molding, now
offers contact elements for easy transmission of pressure signals within
injection molds. Contact elements Type 1712A… and Type 1714A… provide
the electrical connection between cables in different mold components.
During mold assembly, these cables are connected via the contacts of
both elements. In contrast to conventional connection systems, contact
elements facilitate the equipment of complex, state-of-the-art, modular
injection molds with
pressure sensor systems. This way, sensor cables
need no longer be guided through several mold plates. The individual
cables in the plates lead to contact elements, which are automatically
connected during installation. Damaged cables or time-consuming and
costly, complicated handling of cables during sensor and mold
installation ... |

Xsens releases landmark algorithm for
stable 3D tracking in magnetically distorted environments |
| |
|
Xsens Technologies B.V., the leader in professional 3D tracking
systems, today announced the general availability of its
KinematicCoupling (KiCTM) algorithm in its newly released software suite
MVN Studio 3.0 for professional grade human motion capture. Xsens MVN
will be on show at the SIGGRAPH conference (July 27-29, 2010) in Los
Angeles at booth 839. The KinematicCoupling (KiCTM) algorithm is the
latest addition to the advanced signal processing suite developed by
Xsens for processing inertial sensor data (accelerometers, gyroscopes,
magnetometers) to accurately capture motion in 3D. Until now, successful
adoption of inertial sensor technology for human motion capture was
hindered due to the fundamental dependence on the Earth’s magnetic field
to provide a sense of horizontal direction (heading) for long term
measurements, much like how a compass works. The patent pending KiC
algorithm - the culmination of years of research at Xsens - solves this
problem by taking a new approach, with the landmark result of total
immunity to magnetic distortions when estimating full 3D joint
orientations. “Using KiC, it is now possible to accurately track
movement in environments with significant amounts of iron, like large
steel beams, ferroconcrete floors and radiators,” says Per Slycke, CTO
of Xsens. The advent of the KiC algorithm is a corner stone to build on
to provide robust, accurate 3D tracking of human motion under all
circumstances, fully establishing inertial sensor technology as a
disruptive technology to be reckoned with in the 3D tracking field. ... |

New: The first 2 Nm Torque Flange with
overload protection |
| |
MAGTROL,
specialist in
torque sensors, presents a new torque flange, the "TF 205". Its
measurement range of 2 Nm extends the range of TF flange torque sensor
from 2 Nm to 200,000 Nm. Based on the strain gauges technology, the
signal transmission is performed through telemetry. The new TF has an
accuracy of 0.1%, an overload protection up 500% of rated torque. His
flat (41mm x Ø ext.75mm) and rigid design allows the construction of
compact measurement assembly without bearings providing an easy
implementation. The TF 205 is suitable for motor or engine test beds,
especially in the automotive area. Due to its overload protection, it
allows accurate measurement on a reduced scale, while providing high
starting torque due to rotational masses. An extension of the range to 5
Nm and 10 Nm sensor is coming soon. ... |

QuantumX - the universal data acquisition
system with new analog output interface |
| |
Many
test and measurement tasks require measured physical parameters to be
output as a standardized voltage. For these applications, HBM now
offers the MX878 output module - a new module of the flexible and
powerful QuantumX data acquisition system. The output module has eight
analog voltage outputs that can be individually configured. The module
enables system signals to be output as scaled and filtered values in the
range of ±10 V. All signals supplied by the amplifiers can be used as
signal sources. This makes individual monitoring or forwarding of system
signals such as measured values very easy. In addition, the module
offers integrated local intelligence that enables measured values to be
analyzed or set off against each other in real time using algebraic
operations. The module also features functions for the computation of
peak value or root mean square value. Computed signals can be made
available in the system in real time or the can be output directly ... |

Sensor
Technology Ltd: Total traceability extends to packaging as well as
product in the rarefied world of pharmaceuticals. Capcoder Ltd has
adopted a novel torque sensing system as the core of the datalogging
capabilities of its bottle sealing machines. When product integrity is
paramount, packaging has a key role to play. It has to be secure enough
for protection in all likely scenarios, but has to be easy to open in
possibly high tension situations. When using diagnostic fluids on ill or
nervous patients, hospital staff are likely to be feeling the stress and
will not take kindly to bottle tops that proves difficult to open.
However they will want them to feel secure enough that they can be
confident of the fluid’s sterility. ... |

Compact piezoelectric force washer with
20 kN nominal (rated) force expands the PACEline program from HBM |
| |
The
metrology technology specialist HBM is expanding its range of
piezoelectric force washers into the lower nominal (rated) forces
with the 20 kN version of the CFW series. The new force washer has a
diameter of just 14.5 mm and a height of 7 mm, and is therefore very
compact in relationship to its nominal force, allowing it to be easily
integrated in applications, even in those where very little space is
available. The piezoelectric principle of measurement with which the
force washer works has a sensitivity that does not depend on the nominal
force and it is therefore recommended for measurements in the partial
load ranges where greater resolution is required. The symmetrical design
of the sensor represents good linearity characteristic and simple
mounting as the inner and outer ring of the sensor can be solidly
connected to the surrounding construction. Like the other sensors in the
CFW series, the CFW/20KN also has a very small displacement. ... |

IST’s New Micro Flow Sensor for Ultra Low
Gas-Flow Applications |
| |
Innovative
Sensor Technology has developed a new MFS02
micro flow sensor that utilizes thin film technology to layer
platinum micro heaters and
temperature sensors on an ultra sensitive polymer membrane. The
MFS02 is capable of measuring the thermal mass flow of gases in a range
from 0.001 to 2m/s (up to 50m/s), and has a chip temperature range of
-40 to +150°C. Polymer Membrane Construction: Using the same thin-film
construction philosophy as IST’s FS series flow sensors, the MFS02
employs a special glass substrate with an ultra thin polymer membrane to
achieve extreme sensitivity. A high performance material, the polymer is
characterized by outstanding thermal, mechanical and chemical behaviors.
Reduced thermal conductivity of the polymer membrane leads to better
thermal contrast and thus better sensitivity. Additionally, the sensor’s
glass substrate allows for a much higher operating temperature, making
the measurement of larger flow rates possible. Custom Sensor
Applications: IST’s development of the micro flow sensor allows
customers to ... |
