New Conductivity Sensor From IST |
| |
IST
has employed thin film technology to develop a conductivity sensor for
measuring the concentration of ions in an electrolyte. By measuring the
voltage drop between two current electrodes, the conductivity of a
substance can be determined. The operating temperature range of the
sensor is 0°C to +90°C, and its measurement range is ~5μS/cm to
~20mS/cm. Temperature Compensation: The conductivity sensor developed by
IST consists of two current electrodes, two measuring electrodes and a
platinum temperature sensor for compensation. The sensor has an
integrated class B 100Ω or 1000Ω temperature sensor. Since the
conductivity of an electrolyte depends heavily on the temperature of the
medium, it is important to have accurate temperature compensation. The
platinum RTD is located on the sensor, directly at the point of
measurement to assure accuracy. Applications in Water Quality:
Conductivity sensors have an important application in determining water
quality, measuring the concentration of ions found in the water. IST’s
conductivity sensor is ideal for this application ... |

Hall Latch Manages Extreme Environments |
| |
Melexis
releases the MLX92211, second generation of Automotive Hall-Effect Latch
sensors. The MLX92211 comes as a great successor of the worldwide famous
USx88x series by Melexis. This brand new platform has been meticulously
designed to deliver a standard product with tremendous performance and
exceptional robustness for more and more stringent automotive
requirements such as Electrical Power Steering (EPS), Window
lifters/Sunroof, Seat Adjusters, Wipers or Motor Commutation. The
MLX92211 features a very sensitive
Hall-Effect sensor operating from 2.7
to 24 volts, covering
automotive, consumer and industrial applications.
With Latching magnetic behavior, the open drain output is switched ON
and OFF by applying South and North magnetic field perpendicularly to
the package top side, typically the case with rotary applications using
“on-shaft” multi-poles ring magnet. Especially designed for automotive
applications, the device integrates all protections required when using
“integrated” or “remote” sensors like very high electro-static discharge
(ESD) rating, reverse supply voltage protection, output short circuit
protection and even more. ... |

New RoaDyn® S615 System 2000 6-component
Wheel Force Transducer with Characteristics Optimized for Small and
Light Cars |
| |
Kistler:
In addition to engine and air resistance, the key factors in the
development of vehicles with reduced fuel consumption are weight and
rolling resistance. The new RoaDyn S615 is a
wheel force transducer
tailored to this car of the future. Reduced vehicle masses and narrower
tires allow further reduction of the weight of the CFRP (carbon fiber
reinforced plastic) components of the transducer. It is optimized for
recording load spectra for durability, vehicle dynamics and power train
investigations. Design of the RoaDyn S615 is based on a three load cell
concept. Saving one cell and its mounting screws shaves 400 g off the
weight of the established RoaDyn S625 light-weight wheel force
transducer system. There is another potential saving of 400 g available
in the design of the inner part, whose CFRP construction offers a
reduction of up to 20 % compared with the RoaDyn® S625. The optimized
design of the RoaDyn S615 allows a maximum vertical load Fz of
approximately 15 kN. ... |

New Brochure: "Structure diagnosis" |
| |
Gantner
Instruments: In an attempt to balance safety requirements and cost
consciousness, monitoring structures and diagnosis of the structural
condition is a proven means of simultaneously achieving cost efficiency
and safety. Unfortunately there are repeated examples of severe damage,
which could have been avoided by proper monitoring. This is particularly
dramatic when human injury is involved. The solution consists of a
flexible number of distributed measuring modules and one or more test
controllers, synchronized, for example, by a radio-controlled clock. The
values measured most frequently are expansion rates of supporting
elements, expansion of fissures, e.g. with
inductive sensors, forces and
moments, pressures, temperatures and vibrations. Dynamic and
synchronized capture of distributed reading signals, e.g. along a
bridge, allows users to correlate vibration signals. ... |

Q.series A106, Measurement with strain
gage bridges – without compromises |
| |
Gantner
Instruments: The subject of carrier frequency or direct current feed
for
strain gage sensors has occupied users for decades. There are subtle
differences even in the selection of the carrier frequency. Long
connection leads and high carrier frequencies can quickly lead to
capacitive overmodulation. Here a low carrier frequency helps, however
also reduces the dynamic quality of the measurement. Then perhaps it
would be better to use DC voltage – except for the high noise and
reduced stability. These problems do not arise with the A106 module,
available in the new Q.brixx und Q.raxx (19“, 3 HU) series as well as
the Q.bloxx series. Because with this 2-channel module it is possible to
configure the sensor feed: Strain gage quarter, half and full bridges:
DC, carrier frequency 600 Hz or carrier frequency 4.8 kHz, each 2.5 V
and 5 V. For inductive bridges,
LVDT, RVDT: Carrier frequency 4.8 kHz,
2.5 V or 5 V. The measuring rate is 10 kHz, the measuring frequency 1
kHz; at carrier frequency 600 Hz the measuring frequency is 100 Hz. ... |
