New RoaDyn® S220 2-Component Measuring
Hub Meets Rolling Resistance Standards ISO 28580, SAE J1269 and ETRTO
117 |
| |
Kistler
has expanded its range of multicomponent measuring hubs for tire test
stands. This complements the RoaDyn P5xy piezoelectric 5-component hubs
with the RoaDyn S220 2-component design including
strain gage
force
measuring technology. The S220 measuring hub Type 9289A103 measures
changes in rolling resistance in the tangential direction Fx as close as
possible to the tire footprint. The use of strain gage technology allows
static measurement of the contact force Fz and control of the test
stand. The RoaDyn S220 measuring hub meets the requirements of the
established rolling resistance standards ISO 28580, SAE J1269 and ETRTO
117 for passenger car tire load indices of up to 121. By contrast with
the torque and power measurement methods also used for rolling
resistance tests, the S220 relies on the force measurement method. By
measuring very close to the tire footprint the force method increases
accuracy by reducing parasitic losses. Subsequent data conversion
optimizes measurement precision on rolling resistance test stands by
eliminating the effect of crosstalk. Data output is analog in the case
of the RoaDyn S220 measuring hub and digital with the RoaDyn System 2000 ... |

No-compromise color detection, Optimized
colorCONTROL color sensor range from Eltrotec |
| |
ELTROTEC:
Not only the color itself, but the intensity and saturation also need to
be detected − for 25 years, the
color sensors from Eltrotec have used
the comparative tristimulus method. The tried-and-tested WLCS-M 40
series from the colorCONTROL color sensor range has been optimized with
a new, higher performance LED light source which covers a wider spectrum
of colors, thus allowing checks of passing items with larger ranges and
distance tolerances. The functions from the colorCONTROL range that are
actually used depend on the application. Teach-in or modern graphical
user interfaces, fiber optic technology or fixed optics and RGB, Lab,
truecolour or HSI for color analysis are just a few examples of the
selection criteria available. In a lot of factories today, batches are
changed many times every shift. Therefore it must be possible to adapt
the sensor quickly and reliably via teach-in functions. Using the system
control unit, the same sensor is also capable of learning the most
subtle nuances of color and intensity with a pre-selectable tolerance or
a switching hysteresis. ... |

Not a question of taste |
| |
Krohne:
The position of the control valve in
flowmeters can be crucial when
measuring gas flow, regardless of whether the valves are built into the
device or separate. If a valve is used to reduce the flow at the inlet
of the measuring device, the pressure in the measuring tube behind the
valve is reduced. Because gases are compressible, this change in
operating pressure results in a significant measurement error. For
example, a pressure reduction from 5 to 4 bars of absolute pressure in
the measuring tube of a variable area flowmeter results in a measurement
error of almost 12 %. Therefore, more or less gas flows unnoticed
through the device than is displayed. However, when the valve is
positioned at the outlet, the drop in pressure does not occur until
after the measuring tube and thus does not affect measurement. For this
reason, KROHNE offers the "control valve at the outlet" version for its
DK series. The DK series consists of a range of low volume flowmeters
with glass or metal cones used in many different applications ranging
from inlet pipes to gas chromatography and gas inertisation measurements
in chemistry to the measurement of gases used for anaesthesia in
hospitals. ... |

New Conductivity Sensor From IST |
| |
IST
has employed thin film technology to develop a conductivity sensor for
measuring the concentration of ions in an electrolyte. By measuring the
voltage drop between two current electrodes, the conductivity of a
substance can be determined. The operating temperature range of the
sensor is 0°C to +90°C, and its measurement range is ~5μS/cm to
~20mS/cm. Temperature Compensation: The conductivity sensor developed by
IST consists of two current electrodes, two measuring electrodes and a
platinum temperature sensor for compensation. The sensor has an
integrated class B 100Ω or 1000Ω temperature sensor. Since the
conductivity of an electrolyte depends heavily on the temperature of the
medium, it is important to have accurate temperature compensation. The
platinum RTD is located on the sensor, directly at the point of
measurement to assure accuracy. Applications in Water Quality:
Conductivity sensors have an important application in determining water
quality, measuring the concentration of ions found in the water. IST’s
conductivity sensor is ideal for this application ... |

AED digital transducer electronics for
analog SG transducers |
| |
When analog transducers using
strain gage technology (SG) are integrated
into a superordinate system, the analog signals usually have to be
digitized. HBM’s new AED transducer electronics are now available for
this purpose. They make it very easy to integrate analog standard load
cells into a digital environment. Transducer electronics are equipped
with different fieldbus interfaces, such as CANOpen, DeviceNet and
Profibus DP V1, as well as serial RS232 and RS485 interfaces. It is
quick and easy to activate the AED via these interfaces with a PC, for
example. Efficient digital filters, sampling rate adjustment,
characteristic curves, linearization and more than 100 structured
commands can be parameterized in this way. The different fieldbus
interfaces ensure that there is never any problem integrating into a
wide variety of superordinate applications. All the inputs and outputs
of the transducer electronics are electrically isolated. Use under harsh
ambient conditions is also assured by degree of protection IP65. The
compact AED can thus also be installed right next to the strain gage
transducer. ... |

Optical Measurement of gear teeth |
| |
Profile
scanners (model scanCONTROL 2800-25) from Ortenburg-based sensor
specialist Micro-Epsilon are able to generate digital 3D images
of gear teeth and so can be used to measure the run-out characteristics
of gear shafts with plug-in toothing, bevel gears with hypoid toothing
and similar axial components. As gear wheels can warp during
manufacture, the run-out requires inspection. The extent of the
“ovality” and the direction in which it should be adjusted must be
determined for any adjustment of the workpiece. Special measuring
instruments use high-precision
laser scanners that enable automatic
adjustment of the workpiece, quickly and precisely. The scanCONTROL
2800-25 laser line scanner with a 25mm measuring range digitises the 3D
structure of the tooth area and so is used for these types of
application. The scanners achieve a measuring rate of up to 256,000
points per second. The sensor can be configured quickly and easily using
the new Configuration Tools software. ... |
