Uncooled IR Cameras & Detectors for
Thermography and Vision Report |
| |
Yole
Développement released a new report dedicated to uncooled IR cameras
and detectors. Uncooled IR Cameras & Detectors for Thermography and
Vision Report provides an overview of the IR camera supply chain
including the main players, their relationship with detector
manufacturers, the evolution of the business models … Including market
data on both camera and detectors level, this analysis also presents the
main technological trends for detector/microbolometers: Pixel size
reduction, Wafer Level Packaging, 3D integration, Wafer Level Optics,
Pixel Level Packaging. Initially developed for the military market by US
defense companies, use of uncooled infrared (IR) cameras in commercial
applications has been growing over the last ten years. In the infrared
spectrum, Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) is the most commonly used wavelength
(8-12 microns). Thermography and a variety of vision enhancement
applications are the main growth markets for uncooled IR cameras. Camera
prices have been significantly reduced in the thermography business,
which has allowed expansion of the use of IR cameras to ... |

Reliably detecting water – with MICROmote®
optical sensors from STM |
| |
STM
Sensor Technologie München GmbH: Clear liquids such as water cannot
be detected by optical means in transparent pipes or containers without
further ado. It gets especially difficult if the pipe diameter is very
small or if the containers are only semi-transparent. When using
optical
sensors for detection of water levels, the effects of light transmission
and refraction in water can interfere with one another to such an extent
that measurements are actually reversed, especially in the interaction
with the container walls. To solve this problem, the through beam
sensors of the MICROmote® “JJ” series were developed by STM. The
transmitters work in the upper infrared range. In the absorption
spectrum of water there is at this point a maximum and the light of this
wavelength is absorbed by the individual molecules. Water thus becomes
“non-transparent” for the optical system and detection is drastically
simplified. Depending on the size of the sensor or the effective
diameter of the beam,
level detection can be attained with particular
precision. ... |

Smart camera for fast codes |
| |
The
reading of quickly moving labels is a big and frequent challenge
encountered by smart cameras in practical applications. The new LSIS
422i from Leuze electronic reliably masters this task and offers
all of the advantages of the LSIS 400 series, such as the practical
Web-based configuration with a standard browser. The LSIS 422i smart
camera simultaneously reads up to 99 2D
Data Matrix codes or barcodes on
each image. As a result, it can be used anywhere various labels need to
be detected and evaluated at high speed. Both the very short exposure
time of just 54 µs as well as the device software contribute decisively
to the performance. The user can, for example, read even inverse 2D
codes. He can also adjust the sensitivity to the given application and
specify quality criteria that must be maintained. In this way, the LSIS
422i smart camera ... |

Condition Monitoring with DSC Sensors |
| |
Balluff:
Proactive maintenance offers enormous potential for cost savings.
Equipment and machines having this feature provide significant
competitive advantages. Reliable function diagnostics is especially
important in high-dynamic machines, used for example in the printing and
paper industry and in cigarette manufacturing. With their Dynamic Sensor
Control (DSC), sensor specialist and networking provider Balluff offers
a completely new and cost-effective way to detect quality deviations in
the manufacturing process in real time indirectly through the sensors.
Here Balluff boasts not only a complete portfolio of
inductive
sensors,
capacitive sensors and
photoelectric sensors, but also the matching full range of
connectivity and networking products. With Dynamic Sensor Control the
value of a machine design can be significantly increased, since the user
profits from greater up-time, simpler startup and more efficient
maintenance. This is made possible through DSC-compatible sensors, a
special Balluff version of already proven standard binary sensors which
can output not only the switching and an error signal, but also warning
and trend messages. The increasing contamination of a photoelectric
sensor, wandering of a target in the direction of the inductive sensor ... |

Eddy current sensors with Embedded Coil
Technology |
| |
Micro-Epsilon
has developed a completely new manufacturing technology for
eddy current
sensors. Using “Embedded Coil Technology” (ECT), the sensor is housed in
an inorganic carrier material, which provides temperature and shape
stability. Conventionally wound sensor coils are replaced by ECT; the
carrier material can even hold electronic components. The technology
provides more freedom in the physical design of the sensors; in the case
of special operating environments, the ECT sensors can be easily adapted
to the conditions. The electronics are either integrated in the sensor
or are housed separately. The significant benefits of ECT technology are
its high operating temperatures of up to 350°C, extreme temperature
stability, high mechanical load capacity and its suitable for use in
strong electromagnetic fields. Due to a hermetically sealed enclosure,
the sensors can also be used in ultra high vacuums. The new sensor
technology has already proved itself in many challenging applications.
Due to their high temperature stability, ECT sensors are used for ... |

Balluff inductive couplers BIC,
Transferring flexible data and power |
| |
Balluff:
In flexible automation, sensors and actuators must be able to track the
movements of machines. Permanently wired sensors are usually unsuitable
for such applications. Contactings and cables can only withstand
movement for a limited time, which frequently leads to premature wear
and causes connections to break. The new inductive BIC coupler systems
by Balluff are enclosed in a robust M30 stainless steel housing with
degree of protection IP 67 and present a viable solution for the
contact-free transfer of data and power. A particularly favorable
price/performance ratio and high data transfer rates are just two more
of the impressive features on offer. Typical areas of application
include indexing tables, replaceable rubber stamps, etc. BIC systems by
Balluff are capable of transferring power and signals over a gap of up
to 5 mm quickly and reliably, while guaranteeing an optimized
performance. These systems are considerably more powerful compared to
previous solutions, yet have the same design. A maximum of 12 watts is
transferred, which supplies 24 V DC and 500 mA at the remote end for the
sensor system. ... |

Inductive sensor in M12 housing measures
in nanometer range |
| |
Baumer’s
new inductive sensor IPRM 12 measures with a resolution of up to 50 nm,
which is to date unmatched in its class. All of the necessary
electronics are integrated in its M12 housing. At the same time, it is
one of the fastest sensors in its class with a measuring speed of 1
mm/s. With these performance characteristics the compact sensor is a
compelling alternative to complex measuring systems. In contrast to
these systems, the IPRM 12 does not need any external amplifier or
expensive coaxial cables. The 90 mm short M12 housing holds measuring
head, signal evaluation and amplification as well as the analog output
circuit. Since the 0 … 20 mA current output is compatible with standard
analog-cards and cables, no additional interface costs arise. High
measuring precision concurrent with high measuring speed normally
requires extended external hardware complexity and comptuing time.
Thanks to the integrated electronics, this is not necessary when using
the IPRM 12. The sensor’s sophisticated switching allows it to remain
temperature stable, even without any external temperature compensating
devices. ... |

New and Innovative Industrial Wireless
Telemetry System Launched by LCM Systems |
| |
LCM
Systems is pleased to announce the availability of a new and
innovative wireless telemetry system for multiple data acquisition in
real time. The T24 range is a versatile set of products, based around
proprietary acquisition devices that can be mixed and matched to provide
high quality remote readings for critical applications. The low power
radio units allow data collection over many years with no sustained
power, so are considerably more cost-effective than hardwired systems.
The main feature of the T24 is its modular design. One acquisition
module can provide data to multiple output devices and the output
devices can accept data from multiple acquisition modules. Any strain
bridge, voltage or current output sensor can integrate with the T24
acquisition devices to create wireless instrumentation monitoring
systems with a direct line of sight range of 120 metres, which can be
further extended with the use of antennas and passive repeaters.
Engineers at LCM Systems can provide advice and guidance about how the
optimum system can be configured. A number of Acquisition Modules are
available. For strain gauges, there is a five-wire measurement device -
the T24-SA, while the T24-VA voltage acquisition accepts 0-10V, and the
T24-IA accepts 0-20mA, suitable for a wide range of sensors with a
4-20mA output. This means that a wide range of sensors can be wirelessly
monitored including
load cells,
inclinometers,
accelerometers,
displacement LVDT,
pressure,
temperature,
humidity, pH and shock ... |

WayCon – Multipipe idea for the BP oil
disaster in the US |
| |
WayCon
Positionsmesstechnik has submitted a suggestion to BP for the oil
well incident in the Gulf of Mexico. Pipe connection to an undefined
natural opening or pipe system e.g. blowout preventer BOP, with escaping
liquid/oil under high pressure. 1) Feed in several pipes into the
opening. Either one by one, or all connected together with a ring. The
protection ring could help to avoid choking and damaging the pipes.
Space between the single pipes is necessary to allow the filler material
(e.g. concrete) to flow between the pipes and flooding the sealing area.
2) The end of one filler pipe is placed higher at the sealing area. A
protection shield below the filler pipe is recommended, to avoid filler
material nearby the end of the multi-pipes. 3) First start oil suction
through the multipipes, so that the sealing zone is almost free of flow.
Filler material must be pumped under pressure out of the filler pipe to ... |
