Now Available: Direct Wire Wound
Replacement Through Thin Film Technology |
| |
Through
design and material selection efforts, Innovative Sensor Technology
has developed a platinum thin film RTD to directly replace wire wound
technology at half the cost. Class A Rating From -200°C to +600°C: IST’s
new PW and PG series
thin film platinum RTD
temperature sensors are capable of achieving
DIN 60751 class A accuracy in the temperature range of -200°C to +600°C.
The PW series features a temperature coefficient of 3850 ppm/K, while
the PG series offers a temperature coefficient of 3911 ppm/K. The
sensors also feature outstanding hysteresis characteristics. Wire Wound
Performance at Half the Cost: Due to smaller dimensions, the PW and PG
series sensors can be manufactured at lower material costs, allowing for
the sensors to be offered at half the price of wire wound technology.
The smaller thin film dimensions also lead to packaging versatility and
much faster response times than those achieved by wire wound sensors. ... |

Sensor Technology provides the key to
learning |
| |
|
Sensor Technology Ltd: The electrical machines laboratory at the
Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) has greatly increased in its
effectiveness as a teaching resource since TorqSense non-contact
torque sensors from Sensor Technology have been fitted to five
machine sets. The new sensors replace an existing system of machine
monitoring that had proved inaccurate. To provide maximum flexibility,
the demonstration equipment in the DIT machines laboratory employs
modular construction. This means, for example, that experiments with
both AC and DC machines can be carried out on the same test bed, as
whichever machine is needed is simply clamped into place. Whatever the
configuration of the equipment, however, the experiments and
demonstrations performed in the laboratory require the monitoring and
collection of a number of key operating parameters, including torque,
speed and power. ... |

AED digital transducer electronics for
analog SG transducers |
| |
HBM:
When analog transducers using
strain gage technology (SG) are integrated
into a superordinate system, the analog signals usually have to be
digitized. HBM’s new AED transducer electronics are now available for
this purpose. They make it very easy to integrate analog standard load
cells into a digital environment. Transducer electronics are equipped
with different fieldbus interfaces, such as CANOpen, DeviceNet and
Profibus DP V1, as well as serial RS232 and RS485 interfaces. It is
quick and easy to activate the AED via these interfaces with a PC, for
example. Efficient digital filters, sampling rate adjustment,
characteristic curves, linearization and more than 100 structured
commands can be parameterized in this way. The different fieldbus
interfaces ensure that there is never any problem integrating into a
wide variety of superordinate applications. All the inputs and outputs
of the transducer electronics are electrically isolated. Use under harsh
ambient conditions is also assured by degree of protection IP65. The
compact AED can thus also be installed right next to the strain gage
transducer. ... |

Chemical industry to benefit from
head-mounted and rail-mounted temperature transmitter |
| |
KROHNE
introduces the new OPTITEMP TT 51 temperature transmitter. The device
was especially designed for use in the chemical industry. In keeping
with industry requirements, the transmitter guarantees accurate
measurements over the long term and superior reliability. For use in
safety-related applications, the OPTITEMP TT 51 features SIL2 approval
as per IEC 61508. Constant measuring accuracy over a long period of time
is crucial when it comes to monitoring process temperatures. The
OPTITEMP TT 51 features a newly developed electronic system that boasts
a long-term measuring error of just 0.05% of the span. Considered over a
period of five years, the long-term error is a mere quarter of the drift
of comparable
temperature transmitters. The superior reliability of a
measuring station equipped with an OPTITEMP TT 51 temperature
transmitter can be attributed to more than one principle. The OPTITEMP
TT 51 features SmartSense insulation monitoring to detect moisture in
the measuring insert. If the measuring insert (and the sensor element)
absorbs moisture, the electrical isolation resistance immediately
decreases, resulting in a measurement error. ... |

New and Innovative Sensor Technology
Offers Unmatched Sensitivity for Differential Low Pressure Measurement |
| |
Sensortechnics’
new LBA series offers differential low pressure measurement with ranges
of 250 and 500 Pa Full Scale. The LBA sensors perform fully analog
on-chip CMOS signal conditioning to allow for linear and temperature
compensated outputs with high differential pressure resolution of typ.
0.1 % and fast response times of typ. 1 ms. The LBA sensors feature
superior sensitivity and offset stability. The devices are based on
thermal
flow measurement of gas through a micro-flow channel integrated
within the sensor chip. This very narrow channel decreases the flow
through the LBA sensor by several magnitudes compared to other
flow-based
pressure sensors. The extremely low gas flow ensures high immunity
to dust contamination and condensation and allows the use of connecting
tubes and input filters without the need to recalibrate or correct the
output signal. Because the flow impedance is predefined at the sensor
chip level the LBA series provides very small and cost-effective
PCB-mountable housings. Important features of the new LBA series are ... |

The piezo plays detective, Ultrasonic
transducers in air-bubble detectors (ABD) |
| |
PI
Ceramic (PIC): In medical engineering it is often necessary to
ensure there is an undisturbed flow with no air or gas pockets. This is
achieved with the aid of ultrasonic technology in so-called bubble or
air-bubble detectors (ABD). Piezoelectric components from PI Ceramic are
used as the
ultrasonic transducers. They generate and receive the
ultrasonic waves for these sensors. The sensors are mounted on the
outside of flexible tubes and operate under sterile conditions without
coming into contact with the medium to be transported; they therefore do
not interfere with the flow rate, nor is there any danger of
contamination. The bubble detector detects air bubbles in flexible
plastic tubes filled with liquid, regardless of the color of the medium.
Permanent monitoring of the flow is particularly essential for dialysis,
transfusion pumps or heart-lung machines ... |
