Direct measurement of volume flows,
Schmidt Technology now presents maintenance-free flow sensors also for
high temperatures |
| |
SCHMIDT
Technology: Thermal
flow sensors are often used for measurement of volume or mass flows
of gases. An innovative and universal solution by Schmidt Technology now
allows measurements at temperatures up to 350 °C. Flow velocity and
volume flow can be measured according to the thermal anemometer
principle. With this method, a sensor element is continuously heated to
a temperature which is maintained, via a regulating circuit, at a
constant value of about 40 °C above the medium temperature. Immersed in
a medium to be measured, the sensor element cools down by the air or gas
flow. The heat transition from the heating element to the medium is a
measure of the medium's flow velocity. The advantages of this method lie
in the measurability of very low air flows from 0.2 Nm/s up to very high
volume flows, such as exist in compressed air. Moreover, a thermal flow
sensor is very robust, maintenance-free and quick-acting. New materials
resist high temperatures. At high temperatures, the use of thermal
anemometers ... |

Revolutionary GigE Trigger Device
Controls Single or Multiple Cameras Simultaneously Using Just One Cable |
| |
For
automated industrial inspection machines and
vision systems, Baumer has introduced the revolutionary GigE
Trigger device designed to control single-camera or multi-camera setups,
eliminating the need for hardware triggers and greatly simplifying cable
requirements. Featuring multiple input/output ports, these devices can
eliminate the need for PLC controllers by combining sensor information
with machine vision applications. With eight (8) inputs and eight (8)
outputs, the GigE Trigger device provides many connections for
integrating light barriers,
encoders, sensors and actuators and eliminates the need for a
digital I/O card located in a PC. The GigE Trigger device itself
evaluates input signals and provides real-time control of additional
process steps. To trigger GigE cameras directly, these devices are
equipped with a three-port switch - one port controls the internal
trigger signals, the second port is connected to the camera, and the
third port transfers the images to the PC. In combination with a switch
the GigE Trigger device can be used to control multiple cameras, and
supports all Baumer standard GigE cameras or PoE cameras. ... |

Smart camera for fast codes |
| |
The
reading of quickly moving labels is a big and frequent challenge
encountered by smart cameras in practical applications. The new LSIS
422i from Leuze electronic reliably masters this task and offers
all of the advantages of the LSIS 400 series, such as the practical
Web-based configuration with a standard browser. The LSIS 422i smart
camera simultaneously reads up to 99 2D
Data Matrix codes or barcodes on
each image. As a result, it can be used anywhere various labels need to
be detected and evaluated at high speed. Both the very short exposure
time of just 54 µs as well as the device software contribute decisively
to the performance. The user can, for example, read even inverse 2D
codes. He can also adjust the sensitivity to the given application and
specify quality criteria that must be maintained. In this way, the LSIS
422i smart camera ... |

Tactile Pressure Sensors for use at
temperatures up to 200oC (400oF) now available from Tekscan |
| |
|
Tekscan, Inc., a leading manufacturer of thin-film pressure and
force sensors and pressure measurement systems announces high
temperature, tactile
pressure sensors for use in environments up to 200
°Celsius (400 °Fahrenheit). These ultra-thin (0.2 mm, 0.008 in), high
temperature, matrix based, pressure sensors are ideal tools for making
non-intrusive pressure measurements between mating surfaces. Such
measurements are extremely important in a variety of applications,
including web handling and converting, print rollers and nips,
packaging, heat sealing, laminating, and injection molding. The pressure
sensors and systems can be used to: * Measure pressure distribution
between any two mating or contacting surfaces, * Identify peak pressure
hot spots and low pressure gaps, * Record pressure distribution and
force changes over time. When used with the I-Scan® pressure measurement
system, data derived from these sensors can be used to reduce machine
set-up time, improve ... |

Tyco Electronics Presents Magnetic
Actuators for General Purpose |
| |
Tyco
Electronics: Actuators have a major function in today’s modern
passenger cars. Keeping safety features in place or releasing them at
critical situations, locking or unlocking doors, changing the damping
mode of the vibration silencers of the engine, just to name a few. All
of these cannot be realized without an actuator. As each specific
application defines its own packaging layout, the Tyco Electronics’
expertise helps to design the function into the form. Our engineers make
carefully prepared simulations and studies in order to optimize the
energy efficiency in the available packaging, considering the required
output forces, ambient temperatures, and displacement parameters. The
actuators delivered by Tyco Electronics focus on
linear displacement,
both for mono- and bi-stable ... |

Optical strain gages for extreme
requirements in experimental strain analysis |
| |
HBM
has now developed its K-OP type
optical strain gages (SGs) even further
so that they offer several decisive advantages compared to electrical
SGs. They are for example ideally suited to material tests of new fiber
composites. Tests with up to 10 million load cycles with an alternating
strain of ±5.000 µm/m are now possible. The K-OP type optical SGs are
based on so-called fiber Bragg gratings. As the strain is measured
purely optically, an electric signal is not necessary. This makes
utilization in explosive atmospheres, electro-magnetic interferences or
even high voltage applications possible without difficulties. In
addition, several optical SGs can be attached to a fiber, enabling
implementation of parallel measurements. Glass fiber lengths of several
hundred meters are possible. The user receives a data sheet with the
optical strain gages, which amongst other things includes the important
gage factor of each individual SG, already tested by HBM ... |

Low Profile Universal Load Cell - Ideal
for Structural and Fatigue Testing Applications |
| |
LCM
Systems is pleased to announce the launch of the new PTC-1 range of
low profile, universal load cells. Ideal for many testing applications
including structural and airframe testing, Jack Load monitoring and
material and fatigue test machine feedback, this new series has been
designed for use where high stability and low height are essential
requirements. The PTC-1
load cells are available with a rated load from 5 to 1000kN and
offer high natural frequency, low deflection and excellent resistance to
side and torsion forces thanks to the shear web internal construction.
The stainless steel construction ensures corrosion protection both for
the load cells themselves and the optional mounting base, which is
necessary if the load cells are to be used in tension. For use in a wide
range of harsh and rugged environments, the PTC-1 load cells are
supplied with both an integral MIL-SPEC connector and a mating
connector. The cells are also sealed to IP66. The cells can be supplied
calibrated and ... |
