Miniature Rotary Encoder Kit |
| |
POSIC
introduces the highly miniaturized inductive
rotary encoder kit ID1101C. The encoder-head measures only 9.0 x 6.8
mm with a thickness of 0.9 mm and provides A and B outputs in quadrature.
The codewheel diameter is 28.2 mm with a thickness of 0.9 mm. The
encoder is available in resolutions from 9 up to 14 bits, which
corresponds to 128 up to 4098 CPR (Counts Per Revolution). The maximum
speed depends on the resolution and ranges from 2’500 RPM at 14 bits up
to 40’000 RPM at 10 bits or lower. The main features of this kit encoder
are its extremely small dimensions and its insensitivity to dust, water,
oil, grease and even magnetic fields. Typical applications are in the
mechatronics and motion-control domains as speed or position feedback

Sensors for wind turbine systems |
| |
In
its latest brochure, measurement technology specialist Micro-Epsilon
is presenting new possibilities for displacement, profile and
temperature measurement of wind turbine systems. The brochure provides
details on the specific benefits associated with the use of sensors in
specific applications and describes the sensor required for this. For
example, highlighted are the condition monitoring possibilities that
arise from the use of IR
temperature sensors. Amongst other things, the thermoMETER CT
sensors are used for the temperature measurement of the generator
windings or for the rotor gearbox. Noticeable, abnormal temperature
developments indicate a technical problem, which can then be rectified
before any major repairs are required. Minimising shutdown times is
therefore possible. In addition to temperature measurement, examples of
displacement and profile measurement for quality assurance purposes
during the manufacture of ... |

Laser Marking and Image-based
Industrial
ID Reader Save Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars |
| |
Cognex
Corporation: An electronics manufacturer produces thousands of
different part numbers of high value electronic products intermixed on
the same assembly line. The large number of different products built on
the line, coupled with the fact that many of the parts that distinguish
these products are so similar, made it difficult for assemblers to
verify that they were assembling the products correctly. The difficulty
in identifying parts, combined with the fast pace of the assembly line,
resulted in a large amount of assemblies that required rework or had to
be scrapped. The electronics manufacturer previously experienced several
hundred thousand dollars a year in losses when incorrect parts were
added to, and/or the wrong operations were performed, on assemblies. An
additional issue was the inability to easily track the WIP inventory
which resulted in large amounts of money tied up in raw materials in
process. The manufacturer asked Claire Lasers and several other laser
identification system suppliers ... |

Fail-safe oxygen measuring system
increases the efficiency of pellet heaters |
| |
Increasing
numbers of households are now turning to wood or pellet heaters for
their central heating systems. Using the fail-safe MF010-O-LC
oxygen
measuring system from J. Dittrich Elektronic it is possible to
determine the residual oxygen content in furnace exhaust gas. With the
help of a controller, the excess air necessary for reasons of safety can
be minimized and combustion optimized, thereby increasing efficiency.
Emission values in the exhaust gas fall. In addition, it is possible to
compensate for fluctuations in the calorific value of the fuel or in the
fuel supply. Contrary to a lambda probe which measures the relative
oxygen content, the extremely robust oxygen measuring system determines
the absolute content, i.e. the oxygen partial pressure in the exhaust
gas. For this reason, fluctuations in air pressure, humidity and
temperature have no influence on the accuracy of the measurement. ... |

Barcode reader with integrated PROFINET |
| |
The
BCL 548i from Leuze electronic is the world's first
barcode
reader with integrated PROFINET. It is thus capable of being operated
directly in PROFINET networks. Furthermore, thanks to integrated switch
technology, the BCL 548i can also be used in a line network structure.
This minimizes cabling requirements and offers a high level of
transparency and flexibility. Simple start-up and operation. With the
integrated PROFINET interface, the device can be directly connected to a
control. As a result, the usual path via an additional gateway is
eliminated. Moreover, with the integrated PROFINET interface, the user
can easily operate the device via the control. The device is configured
by selecting modules directly in the control and then transferring them
from the control directly to the device. Should it be necessary to swap
out a device, the configuration is automatically taken over by the new
device. By means of the integrated switch function of the BCL 548i,
additional devices can be connected to one another in the PROFINET in a
line structure, as is typical for fieldbuses. ... |

World’s best vaccum seals tested but not
touched |
| |
Sensor
Technology Ltd: TorqSense, a non-contact digital
torque monitoring system that could guarantee an infinite lightness
of touch has proven to be the only way to test the seals of super high
performance vacuum systems. The ultimate fields of precision
manufacture, such as electronics, biophysics and thin film deposition
where tolerances are measured in atoms, are often conducted in hard
vacuum to remove airborne contaminants and avoid the performance
reducing effects of tiny air movements. However the vast majority of
vacuum chamber designs require seals for rotary drive shafts (called
rotary feedthroughs) and ‘feedthroughs’ for the passage of materials,
components, tools and finished products. In high vacuum applications
conventional seals are unlikely to be able to achieve the performance
specifications required, so magnetic fluid seals are used. ... |

Tyco Electronics Reluctance Resolvers for
Hybrid Applications |
| |
|
Tyco Electronics: New emission legislation and the trend towards
energy efficient transportation support an increased development in the
area of hybrid propulsion for passenger cars. One of the key
applications for improved fuel economy in the hybrid market is the
recovery and storage of energy during the braking phase or regenerative
braking. When braking, the energy of the moving car is converted and
stored in the Li-ion batteries instead of being dissipated through the
heating of braking disks. Upon acceleration of the car, the available
electrical energy is used to help the car speed up by releasing this
energy into a controlled electrical motor. More advanced systems may
continuously propel the cars’ electrical motors. In order to keep the
efficiency of the electrical hybrid motors at a maximum level, the
position of the drive shaft must be continuously monitored. Tyco
Electronics has developed a break-though
inductive
sensor, known as a “Reluctance Resolver,” that can help support
reduced fuel consumption with in these new hybrid propulsion systems.
The Reluctance Resolver is part of a system to measure shaft angles. ... |

Cost effective field moisture calibration
from Michell – S503 |
| |
Michell
Instruments:
Humidity sensors and probes need regular re-calibration
to ensure continued accuracy. In many cases these must be sent away to a
certified calibration laboratory, which may be effective but is rarely
convenient as there will be significant process downtime. The S503 from Michell Instruments means that field calibration of RH sensors and
humidity probes is affordable, practical and extremely flexible for any
company that uses RH instruments. The S503 humidity calibrator from
Michell Instruments is: * Small and light: At under 2kg in weight and
24cm wide, the instrument is portable, very compact and comes with a
convenient carry case, * Reliable: Michell Instruments have 35 years’
experience in moisture calibration and sensing. The S503 provides
exceptional thermal stability to better than 0.1°C. In combination with
a Michell Chilled Mirror Hygrometer, such as the Optidew Vision, you can
create a complete traceable humidity calibration system. This feature is
unique to the market. ... |

Tyco Electronics Presents PLCD Position
Sensors for Exhaust Gas Recirculation of Truck Engines |
| |
Tyco
Electronics: New emission laws demand new technologies for
optimization of the combustion process. Along with the addition of
chemical substances (SCR) there is also the significant technology of
exhaust gas recirculation. A pneumatic cylinder, controlling a flap,
regulates the volume of exhaust gas which is recirculated. For precise
control in this application, a displacement sensor has to fulfil these
requirements: * Safe fixture on the cylinder, * Wear free measurement
with millions of cycles of the actuator, * Very precise measurement, *
Suitable for temperatures up to 150°C, * High resistance against
vibration. For precise
measurements of displacement and
positions, Tyco Electronics employs the PLCD sensor (Permanentmagnetic
Linear Contactless Displacement). As a sensor manufacturer and
development partner in the automotive industry, Tyco Electronics offers
their long experience of development and project engineering for new
sensor application systems. Diverse portfolios of electromagnetic
components and sensors are available, with modern process technologies,
and are the basis of successful products within the
automotive industry. . ... |
