Xsens,
a leading manufacturer of sensor units for motion, orientation and
position measurement, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2010. One of
the celebration activities is an exclusive customer event at Oceanology
International 2010 in London, at which the 10,000th Motion Tracker will
be handed over to one of Xsens most respected customers. Xsens’ motion
sensors are integrated in various customer applications in the maritime
industry. Since many years, Xsens has strong relations with customers
such as CodaOctopus, Sonardyne, Kongsberg and Saab. ‘Our motion sensors
are designed for those applications which require a small size and an
attractive price’, says Casper Peeters, CEO of Xsens. ‘At the same time,
our customers expect accuracy levels higher than the performance of
typical MEMS devices and approaching that of costly fiber-optic gyro
systems. Our MEMS based motion sensors meet those demands thanks to
sophisticated on-board processing algorithms. They are a perfect fit for

7,500 ft. |
| |
Stellar
Technology: The Series LWU is a family of submersible LVDT
displacement transducers available in either DC or AC versions. These
units are specifically designed for use in sea water and other
submersible environments, including many corrosive liquids. The LWU
Series features unguided armatures with stroke lengths from 0.5” to 4”
and linearity of +/- 1%. Operating temperature is from -40 to 140 deg.F.
The LWU60X is an AC/AC unit with v/v output. The LWU61X and LWU65X are
DC/DC units with outputs of +/-5 Vdc or 0-10 Vdc and 4-20mA,
respectively. The LWU units are made of 316 stainless steel, and are
fully welded. The heavy duty construction makes these units able to
endure the most rigorous applications including 10 years submersion in
seawater at a depth of 7500 ft. (2300 m). The free unguided armature
design allows non-magnetic fluids to enter the transducer body without
affecting the operation of the transducer. In addition, this thru-hole
design ... |

LOGOSCREEN paperless recorder series with
web server function |
| |
JUMO:
It is not just the tamperproof recording of process data that is an
issue nowadays for users of recorders who want more than just the
measurement curve, but also being able to implement online visualization
of this data on a PC with as little effort as possible. Manufacturers of
paperless recorders have recognized this trend and are providing more or
less sophisticated solutions for displaying data online on a PC. As far
as JUMO and the LOGOSCREEN paperless recorder series are concerned,
“more or less sophisticated” means that the data of the LOGOSCREEN cf
and LOGOSCREEN 500cf can be visualized in numeric form and the data of
the LOGOSCREEN nt high-end device can be displayed with the full range
of visualization. Process data are visualized on the PC online as
numeric values, as measurement curves or within their own process ... |

New System for Moisture Measurement |
| |
Micro-Polar
II (LB 567) is the new
moisture measurement system from BERTHOLD
TECHNOLOGIES, specifically developed for the measurement of bulk
materials. It provides online monitoring on conveyor belts or chutes and
can be easily installed at existing plants. The Microwave based
measurement operates completely non-contacting. The components are not
exposed to any wear and tear as the emitting antenna is mounted below
and the receiving antenna is mounted above the conveyor belt. Therefore
no maintenance is required. The measurement provides very representative
measuring results by the penetration of all material layers. Due to
technical improvements in frequency and frequency range, new
opportunities have become available for applications, which had been
restricted in terms of bulk density or particle size. Using the new
system, even high bulk layers can be penetrated due to the increased
dynamics. The multi-frequency technology used by Berthold Technologies
ensures a very stable and reliable measurement as several measuring
values are taken for different individual ... |

| |
Dytran
Instruments has recently release a new signal conditioner designed
specifically for airborne flight testing. Model 4139 is a six-channel
signal conditioner designed to power up to six IEPE constant current
type accelerometers while adding filtering, output biasing, and output
limiting to present signal overdriving. The 4139 is intended for flight
test use and operates from +28 VDC aircraft power. This miniature
package measures 6.25 x 4.00 x 1.03 inches and weighs around ¾ pounds.
The input power, output signals, and power to the
accelerometers are
interfaced by one D-subminiature multi-pin connector. The accelerometers
are connected to the 4139 through six 10-32 jacks. A nominal +2.50 VDC
offset is provided at the output. This allows for direct connection of
the output signals to telemetry transmitter modulators which are
designed to receive input signals ... |

Optimised Metal Strip Inspection |
| |
Measurement
technology system supplier Micro-Epsilon has completely revised
the design of its measurement system for metal strip. The new system for
thickness and profile inspection now provides a much larger measuring
gap of 190mm, almost three times larger than its predecessor. In
addition, the system can now reliably measure corrugated and vibrating
metal strip Rather than using the previous point-type laser sensors,
profile sensors are now installed, which measure significantly better on
many different strip materials and which greatly increase the monitoring
range. The system enables thickness measurements to an accuracy of
0.01mm and is used for process stabilisation, quality assurance and
documentation. Due to the use of a special high-tech light barrier, edge
detection for warped strips is also possible. This enables robust width
measurement with maximum reliability. Individual strips can also be ... |

Photoelectric sensors with IO-Link –
Sensor intelligence cleverly applied |
| |
Baumer
extends its portfolio of measuring sensors compatible with IO-Link. The
measuring red light
distance sensor FADK 14 now offers several new
features that improve the reliablity of your process. Thanks to IO-Link,
the condition of the received signal can be retrieved from the sensor in
different quality levels. This information can be used as a pre-failure
warning. Consequently, photoelectric sensors can solve measurement tasks
even in dusty environments, such as wood processing. Additionally,
IO-Link enables quick and error-free realignment of the sensing range
according to the product in process. The corresponding limits are saved
in the control, thus any errors during product changes are eliminated.
The average value that can be optionally activated enables a higher
resolution and a more stable signal quality especially with a rough
object surface. As a result, IO-Link generates a real added value when
applied with
photelectric sensors and these ensure an improved process
reliability as well as ... |

Manner's torque measuring flange now with
Ethernet connection |
| |
Manner
Sensortelemetrie has now widened its range of torque measuring
flanges, developed specifically for test bench technology. The focus is
now on expanding network connectivity. Ethernet connection (TCP/IP) is
now available alongside existing USB and CAN network links. This means
that the
torque sensor can be smoothly integrated into existing TCP/IP
networks. Ethernet technology offers huge advantages, particularly with
larger test benches. The fibre optic cables generally available for
Ethernet use permit transmission paths up to several kilometres long, as
well as transmission of measurements that is completely free of
interference. The rotary speed data collected using the integrated speed
measurement system is also transmitted. The classic data recording
interface is no longer needed, which cuts costs greatly. The measuring
flange, together with a PC, represents a practically "Plug and Play"
data acquisition system. ... |

microSPOT® - precision LEDs for sensor
applications |
| |
STM
Sensor Technologie München GmbH: LEDs are the most important radiant
sources in
optical sensors. They are offered in an almost unmanageable
variety. The average optical output rating meanwhile is several times
the values that were still common a few years ago and it is continuing
to improve at a rapid pace. The technical characteristics which are
decisive for applications in measurement technology, such as intensity
distribution, beam angle, axis deviations or even just the manufacturing
tolerance, aren't keeping up. Specifically for precision applications in
sensor systems, STM Sensor Technologie München GmbH provides
optoelectronic components under the brand name of microSPOT® whose
characteristics far exceed those of conventional ... |
