Mini-Mixer will be the torque of many industries

torque sensorsSensor Technology Ltd: A torque sensor is helping analyse recipes’ mixing properties in a project that could slash development costs in the food and plastics industry and help nanotechnology advances in the pharmaceuticals world. The research and development is being carried out at the University of Bradford by Professor Hadj Benkreira and Dr Raj Patel in collaboration with Dr Martin Gale, formerly of RAPRA Technology (Shawbury) now Visiting Professor. They have been developing a miniature mixer (5-25 grams batch) that incorporates a set of integral instruments to monitor the properties of materials as they are being mixed. The instruments work in real time during the mixing process and their output is captured to a PC for subsequent analysis. Software is being written so that the analysis can be performed simultaneously with the mixing and perhaps even used to interactively control the mixer itself. One of the key parameters to be measured is the torque of the mixing element, as this will become constant once mixing is complete. This is measured by a TorqSense non-contact sensor that offers the development ...

Capacitive sensors with new technology

capacitive sensors from Micro-EpsilonThe latest range of capacitive sensors from Micro-Epsilon is based on a completely new technology. A special ceramic substrate provides the capaNCDT CSH (Hybrid) sensors with extreme temperature stability. New sensor geometries are also possible which enable the production of a sensor with a height of 4mm. These flat sensors are called capaNCDT CSH-FL. Using two drilled holes on the sensor, the flat sensors can be mounted quickly and easily; as before, the cylindrical sensors can be mounted by clamping The sensors are also available for use in ultra-high vacuums (UHV) and clean rooms where, for example, freedom from contamination of the materials is also important. Due to the integrated cable on the sensor side, there are two significant benefits: installation space is significantly reduced and the risks arising from an additional plug connector, e.g. accidental detachment, are eliminated. The new technology and the modular design of the sensor enable Micro-Epsilon to respond very quickly to customer requirements. The CSH sensors are currently available with measuring ranges between 0.2mm and 1.2mm. Other measuring ranges are being developed. The hybrid sensors ...

HQ Color Technology – The new Benchmark for Color Processing

Baumer Cameras with new HQ Color TechnologyBaumer presents a new camera technology for high color quality requirements. The so called HQ Color Technology is based on the internal real-time Baumer CIELAB Engine to deliver brilliant colors with a single sensor that can only otherwise be realized with 3 CCD cameras. The patented algorithm also excels with very sharp edges, a feature that significantly improves the clear contour determination of cohesive color areas. Cameras with HQ Color Technology provide a significantly higher quality with regard to color fidelity and color noise. This ensures high stability with minimum color deviation between different cameras. Especially applications in the food industry, pharmaceutical inspection or life science are benefiting from this advanced technology. The first model, the TXG06ac, delivers a resolution of 776 x 582 pixels. Its robust and compact design with 36 x 36 x 58 mm allows installations even in narrowest industrial environments. Next to that the technology is sensor and interface independent and will be available with ...

New family of teachable ultrasonic fork sensors for web guide and edge control

UPF-A TOR ultrasonic sensors, teachable ultrasonic fork sensorsSNT Sensortechnik AG: The new edge sensors type UPF-A TOR are based on the experience of SNT Sensortechnik AG with ultrasonic through beam sensors. New software algorhythms and a unique SONARANGE ultrasonic transducer material allow an accuracy and temperature stability so far only realized with optical systems. But the ultrasonic fork barrier is much less sensitive to dirt and dust compared to optical sensors. Further more transparent materials such as foils can be perfectly handled. The so called plane change error has been minimized to almost zero. Together with the high sampling speed of the sensor this means that fast moving and thus fluttering webs are well aligned. The sensor can ideally be adjusted to the actual air conditions by the help of the teach-in function. Furthermore acoustically transparent materials such as textiles can be measured. With teach-in the signal output can be defined at fully closed as well as at fully open fork. In addition, the output signal can also be inverted via teach-in. The new sensors can be teached by push buttons or through the connector. ...

Balluff inductive couplers BIC, Transferring flexible data and power

Balluff inductive couplers BICBalluff: In flexible automation, sensors and actuators must be able to track the movements of machines. Permanently wired sensors are usually unsuitable for such applications. Contactings and cables can only withstand movement for a limited time, which frequently leads to premature wear and causes connections to break. The new inductive BIC coupler systems by Balluff are enclosed in a robust M30 stainless steel housing with degree of protection IP 67 and present a viable solution for the contact-free transfer of data and power. A particularly favorable price/performance ratio and high data transfer rates are just two more of the impressive features on offer. Typical areas of application include indexing tables, replaceable rubber stamps, etc. BIC systems by Balluff are capable of transferring power and signals over a gap of up to 5 mm quickly and reliably, while guaranteeing an optimized performance. These systems are considerably more powerful compared to previous solutions, yet have the same design. A maximum of 12 watts is transferred, which supplies 24 V DC and 500 mA at the remote end for the sensor system. ...
