Mini-Mixer will be the torque of many
industries |
| |
Sensor
Technology Ltd: A
torque sensor is helping analyse recipes’ mixing properties in a
project that could slash development costs in the food and plastics
industry and help nanotechnology advances in the pharmaceuticals world.
The research and development is being carried out at the University of
Bradford by Professor Hadj Benkreira and Dr Raj Patel in collaboration
with Dr Martin Gale, formerly of RAPRA Technology (Shawbury) now
Visiting Professor. They have been developing a miniature mixer (5-25
grams batch) that incorporates a set of integral instruments to monitor
the properties of materials as they are being mixed. The instruments
work in real time during the mixing process and their output is captured
to a PC for subsequent analysis. Software is being written so that the
analysis can be performed simultaneously with the mixing and perhaps
even used to interactively control the mixer itself. One of the key
parameters to be measured is the torque of the mixing element, as this
will become constant once mixing is complete. This is measured by a
TorqSense non-contact sensor that offers the development ... |

Capacitive sensors with new technology |
| |
The
latest range of
capacitive sensors from Micro-Epsilon is based on a
completely new technology. A special ceramic substrate provides the
capaNCDT CSH (Hybrid) sensors with extreme temperature stability. New
sensor geometries are also possible which enable the production of a
sensor with a height of 4mm. These flat sensors are called capaNCDT CSH-FL.
Using two drilled holes on the sensor, the flat sensors can be mounted
quickly and easily; as before, the cylindrical sensors can be mounted by
clamping The sensors are also available for use in ultra-high vacuums (UHV)
and clean rooms where, for example, freedom from contamination of the
materials is also important. Due to the integrated cable on the sensor
side, there are two significant benefits: installation space is
significantly reduced and the risks arising from an additional plug
connector, e.g. accidental detachment, are eliminated. The new
technology and the modular design of the sensor enable Micro-Epsilon to
respond very quickly to customer requirements. The CSH sensors are
currently available with measuring ranges between 0.2mm and 1.2mm. Other
measuring ranges are being developed. The hybrid sensors ... |

HQ Color Technology – The new Benchmark
for Color Processing |
| |
Baumer
presents a new camera technology for high color quality requirements.
The so called HQ Color Technology is based on the internal real-time
Baumer CIELAB Engine to deliver brilliant colors with a single sensor
that can only otherwise be realized with 3 CCD cameras. The patented
algorithm also excels with very sharp edges, a feature that
significantly improves the clear contour determination of cohesive color
areas. Cameras with HQ
Color Technology provide a significantly higher
quality with regard to color fidelity and color noise. This ensures high
stability with minimum color deviation between different cameras.
Especially applications in the food industry, pharmaceutical inspection
or life science are benefiting from this advanced technology. The first
model, the TXG06ac, delivers a resolution of 776 x 582 pixels. Its
robust and compact design with 36 x 36 x 58 mm allows installations even
in narrowest industrial environments. Next to that the technology is
sensor and interface independent and will be available with ... |

New family of teachable ultrasonic fork
sensors for web guide and edge control |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: The new edge sensors type UPF-A TOR are based on
the experience of SNT Sensortechnik AG with ultrasonic through beam
sensors. New software algorhythms and a unique SONARANGE
ultrasonic
transducer material allow an accuracy and temperature stability so far
only realized with optical systems. But the ultrasonic fork barrier is
much less sensitive to dirt and dust compared to optical sensors.
Further more transparent materials such as foils can be perfectly
handled. The so called plane change error has been minimized to almost
zero. Together with the high sampling speed of the sensor this means
that fast moving and thus fluttering webs are well aligned. The sensor
can ideally be adjusted to the actual air conditions by the help of the
teach-in function. Furthermore acoustically transparent materials such
as textiles can be measured. With teach-in the signal output can be
defined at fully closed as well as at fully open fork. In addition, the
output signal can also be inverted via teach-in. The new sensors can be teached by push buttons or through the connector. ... |

New Baumer cameras based on Kodak sensors |
| |
Baumer
presents the new SX family of cameras which incorporate Kodak’s high
performance CCD sensors. Using advanced Quad-Tap technology, these Kodak
progressive scan interline sensors combine high frame rates with very
low image noise. They are available with a resolution of either 1 or 2
megapixels. The 1-megapixel sensor is configured as a 1024 x 1024 pixel
matrix and, depending on the number of output taps used, can achieve
speeds of 120 frames per second (fps). The 2-megapixel sensor has
horizontal and vertical resolutions of 1600 x 1200 pixels respectively
with speeds of up to 68 fps. With an industrial housing measuring 52 x
52 x 72 mm, the SX cameras integrate a very compact housing with a
robust electronics design, making them the right choice for a wide range
of applications. CameraLink Base serves as the digital interface for the
cameras. This industrial interface provides a high data throughput with
minimum latency time. ... |

Balluff inductive couplers BIC,
Transferring flexible data and power |
| |
Balluff:
In flexible automation, sensors and actuators must be able to track the
movements of machines. Permanently wired sensors are usually unsuitable
for such applications. Contactings and cables can only withstand
movement for a limited time, which frequently leads to premature wear
and causes connections to break. The new inductive BIC coupler systems
by Balluff are enclosed in a robust M30 stainless steel housing with
degree of protection IP 67 and present a viable solution for the
contact-free transfer of data and power. A particularly favorable
price/performance ratio and high data transfer rates are just two more
of the impressive features on offer. Typical areas of application
include indexing tables, replaceable rubber stamps, etc. BIC systems by
Balluff are capable of transferring power and signals over a gap of up
to 5 mm quickly and reliably, while guaranteeing an optimized
performance. These systems are considerably more powerful compared to
previous solutions, yet have the same design. A maximum of 12 watts is
transferred, which supplies 24 V DC and 500 mA at the remote end for the
sensor system. ... |

New BVS Vision Sensor enhancements, More
than just a software update |
| |
Sensor
specialist and networking provider Balluff has added two
innovations to the line of
vision sensors. A free software update is available from their
homepage www.balluff.de which upgrades the proven BVS-E sensor to a BVS-E
Standard type. The other addition is the BVS-E Advanced model, a vision
sensor in the premium segment. Compared with the Standard version it
offers additional exclusive functions and is designed for users with
especially demanding applications. The free update to Version 1.2 of the
Convis software includes significant improvements and numerous
enhancements. The Inspection Explorer and online help have been made
even more clearly structured and informative. The user now has more than
twice as many program slots for storing setup parameters, a feature that
is especially useful when there are frequent format changes. And the
show-stopper: All the inspections from earlier versions can be easily
loaded into the new one and used as before. A special zoom function and
shortcuts now enable ... |

The new WATERFLUX 3070 battery powered
water meter |
| |
KROHNE
introduces a new measuring instrument: The WATERFLUX 3070 is an
electromagnetic water meter for applications in the water and standard
applications wastewater industry. It has a very long battery life of 15
years, making it especially suitable for applications where no power
connection is available. The meter also has the option of a GSM module
for remote transmission of measurement data and status information. The
new WATERFLUX 3070 offers the user some unique benefits that comparable
solutions lack: Thanks to extremely short inlets and outlets, the
WATERFLUX can be installed in very narrow wells and chambers. The meter
is highly accurate and being a
magnetic-inductive meter, it is superior to mechanical water meters
in terms of pressure loss and long-term stability. For large diameters,
the WATERFLUX 3070 has a significant price advantage compared to the
lifetime cost of mechanical meters which require filters and rectifiers
as well as maintenance and cleaning. ... |

Allows For Complete Media Compatibility |
| |
Sensortechnics’
new CLW series detects point levels of liquids and granular or
pulverised materials without contacting the media. The user can easily
adjust a high and low switch point with a hysteresis of less than 25 mm.
The CLW device uses a new non-invasive
capacitive sensor technology and
allows for complete media compatibility and sterility. Due to its
miniature size these level switches can be perfectly integrated into OEM
devices. The CLW sensor can be mounted to the outside of a container or
vessel and is able to measure through almost any non-metallic wall
material. The level switch is highly flexible and can be easily
calibrated to measure to the desired levels, media and application
set-up. The CLW series achieves a very high accuracy and reliability due
to an additional reference electrode which compensates for all changes
in ambient environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.
Additionally, Sensortechnics can also provide continuously measuring
level sensors based on the same contact-free capacitive technology. ... |

Ready-to-use barcode-scanner portals for the omnidirectional reading of
barcode labels |
| |
Leuze
electronic: Reading unaligned barcode labels generally requires two
or more barcode scanners that are aligned with respect to one another.
The MSPi systems from Leuze electronic are modularly structured and
mechanically premounted scanner portals. Electrically wired and
preconfigured, they are delivered ready-to-use for nearly every
application. With their integrated code fragment technology and high
scanning rate, the BCL 500i and BCL 501i series
barcode readers used in
the portals offer the essential prerequisites for detecting rotated
barcode labels. The code fragment technology makes possible the
identification of soiled, rotated or damaged codes, and the high,
adjustable scanning rate of between 800 and 1,200 scans per second
ensures identification even with very high conveyor speeds. With their
large depth of field and wide opening angle, the devices can also be
used on wide transport systems. Thanks to the flexible design of the MSPi systems, up to 32 of these BCL 500i series barcode readers can be
integrated in a single scanner portal. ... |
