SenGenuity Announces TempTrackr™ Wireless
Temperature Measurement System Kit with Six Sensor Capability |
| |
SenGenuity,
the sensors division of Vectron International, today announced
that its TempTrackr™ Wireless Temperature Measurement System Kit is now
capable of reading six independent passive, wireless
temperature sensors. Each sensor operates in a unique frequency
band, which prevents cross-talk with other sensors and provides them
unique identification within the system architecture. Based on surface
acoustic wave (SAW) technology, the sensors require no batteries or
external power supply. They are powered by electromagnetic bursts
generated by a wireless transceiver, which serves to power the sensors
and listen to response signals generated by them. A change in the
frequency of the response signal is indicative of a change in the
temperature being measured. The TempTrackr™ Wireless Temperature
Measurement System is highly scalable and can accommodate up to 12
wireless temperature sensors with appropriate setup and configuration ... |

Capacitive Position Sensors and Their
Applications |
| |
Physik
Instrumente (PI): Many application areas today require the highest
of measurement accuracies, with resolutions in the nanometer or
subnanometer realm. Examples range from semiconductors and biotechnology
through quality assurance and automotive to metrology and microscopy.
Even in “normal” machining, more and more automated tasks require
high-accuracy positioning, which means that suitably high-precision
measuring equipment is essential. This places high demands on the
sensors used. In addition, the sensors must be as easy to integrate in
the application as possible, and usually must also exhibit excellent
dynamic performance. The accuracy and repeatability of the sensors used
is a major determinant of the performance of any positioning system.
Anyone requiring the maximum possible accuracy—in the nanometer or even
picometer realm—will be using
capacitive sensors. One specialist in the area of nanopositioning
systems manufacture is PI (Physik Instrumente), a company which has long
been a moving force in the development of high-precision capacitive
position sensors, mostly for use in its own products. Today, capacitive
position sensors of various different types, some with resolutions
down into the subnanometer realm, have their own place in the product
palette. Capacitive sensor metrology has more to offer than just high
accuracy: The sensors provide non-contact measurements of the actual
position of the moved object directly—accuracy, stability and bandwidth
are substantially better than those obtained with conventional LVDT or
SGS sensors. ... |

Autonnic’s new sensors for engine lever
controls |
| |
Autonnic,
world leaders in fluxgate technology, is launching the first of a new
range of waterproof, non-contact interaction devices - the A3300 Lever
Control module. A major requirement of the marine world is that
conducting, corrosive seawater must not encounter electronic circuits.
Yet controls, switches and buttons must be placed where a wet mariner
can reach and touch them. Having developed and patented some unusual
aspects of fluxgates, Autonnic has applied the latest version of its
3-axis fluxgate technology to the solution of this interface problem.
Autonnic’s solution is magnetic and therefore non-contact which solves
the problem of how to keep the sea out of the electronics behind knobs,
levers and buttons. First of the series to launch is the A3300 set of
OEM modules to provide the basis of non-contact engine lever controls
for either one or two engines ... |

Sierra Plays Pivotal Role in Biogas
Production Resulting in High Energy Savings for California Wastewater
Treatment Facility |
| |
In
the conversion of solid wastes to high-efficiency fuel, digestion plays
a critical first step in producing raw biogas. For Santa Cruz Wastewater
Treatment Facility, Sierra’s Immersible Thermal
Mass Flow Meters
deliver critical readings indicating exact digestive status while
controlling the final step of precisely blending the cleaned and
compressed biogas with natural gas. Since 1989 this state-of-the art
wastewater treatment facility, nestled in a shallow canyon in the
coastal city of Santa Cruz, has been leading the way for renewable
energy programs and environmental protection in the West. Santa Cruz
Wastewater generates their own electric power by using
internal-combustion engines which burn a mixture of methane gas produced
by the sewage digestion process and purchased natural gas, producing 7.4
million kwH of electric power per year. Historically, wastewater
treatment facilities around the globe have used differential pressure
devices for their gas measurements. These devices proved to be expensive
to maintain, clogged easily, and required a separate pressure and
temperature transducer and flow computer to deliver true mass flow ... |

VeriSens® C-Mount – Flexible, precise
position recognition and measurement checking |
| |
Baumer:
So you’ve solved your application, but your
vision sensor fails to meet
system integration requirements? VeriSens® C-Mount gives you enhanced
integration flexibility. C-Mount lenses let you choose the best mounting
position in your system. A protective cap safeguards the lens against
soiling and damage for greater process reliability. The caps are
available in different lengths. With VeriSens® C-Mount, readings of
measurements and object’s coordinates can now be obtained in “real”
coordinates, i.e. millimeters, regardless of the object’s position in
the image. A simple calibration corrects perspectival contortions and
lens distortions. VeriSens® C-Mount therefore serves as a
measurement-checking and
position-detecting sensor, taking over tasks
which previously required costly, complex image processing systems.
Combined with highly effective functions to control presence,
completeness and identification (reading and checking characters and
numbers, barcodes and matrix codes), this qualifies the sensor for many
applications – including machine construction, packaging and handling –
where parts for a pick-and-place robot must be detected in all
positions. ... |

Sierra Introduces Range of Measurement
Solutions for EPA Mandated Green House Gas Reporting |
| |
Sierra
Instruments introduced a line of mass flow meters Certified by
Sierra for Green House Gas (GHG) reporting. All Sierra GHG meters now
conform to the new EPA rule (40 CFR Part 98), which mandates that as of
January 2, 2010, companies in the United States that emit more than
25,000 tons/year of CO2 equivalent must report GHG emissions. It is
estimated that approximately 10,000 of the country’s largest businesses
will be affected. Sierra’s GHG Certified
mass flow meters provide an
economical way to totalize methane or natural gas burned, enabling the
calculation of CO2 equivalent emissions. Sierra has extensive experience
in producing highly accurate and repeatable mass flow meters for methane
(CH4) as well as N20, SF6, HFC’s, PFC’s and CO2 as called out in the EPA
mandate. “This is really our strong suit,” says Matthew J. Olin,
President of Sierra. “Our customers saw the environmental writing on the
wall some time ago and we have been steadfastly pursuing both
sustainable and profitable industry flow measurement solutions ever
since. To make it easier for our customers facing this measurement
challenge to find the meter they need, we’ve established a dedicated
webpage that features our three most popular GHG Certified mass flow

Kistler Extends its Successful Series of
Press Force Sensors |
| |
The
well established Kistler press
force sensors are based on the piezoelectric measuring principle.
The force acting on the quartz element generates at the output of the
sensor a proportional electric charge, which is converted by the
series-connected measuring amplifier (such as ICAM Type 5073A...) into a
process signal suitable for evaluation (typically 0 ...10 V). The new
sensor Type 9383A… extends Kistler's successful series of piezoelectric
press force sensors. The sensor preloaded ready for mounting with the
three standardly calibrated measuring ranges of 0 ... 3 kN, 0 ... 30 kN
and 0 … 300 kN is ideal for measuring both dynamic and quasistatic
forces. Together with an in-line charge amplifier with range switching,
such as the ICAM Type 5073A…, extremely wide force ranges can be
represented with one and the same sensor – with consistent accuracy over
the entire range. The sensor also offers tried and tested mechanical
features with flange connections at both ends for easier interfacing
with the machine environment, and centering rings for axial adjustment.
The rotationally symmetrical shape makes the press force sensor perfect
for use on the end of push rods or press plungers. Press force sensors
from Kistler are available in different sizes and measuring ... |
