Transportable chilled mirror instrument
from Michell: drift-free precision is now portable |
| |
When
a leading manufacturer of desiccant dryers decided that they needed a
transportable chilled-mirror
dew-point instrument to certify the functionality of their
dehumidification systems, they turned to Michell Instruments for
a solution. The result is the Optidew Transportable, which combines the
drift-free performance of the chilled mirror principle with the
convenience of a transportable instrument. Housed in a
specially-designed case, the instrument is both fully self-contained as
well as small and light. For the client, having an instrument that was
easily transportable was vital because of the range of situations where
their dryers are installed. Desiccant de-humidifiers create dry air
which can be used in a variety of applications such as the leisure
industry for swimming pools and sports halls, various utilities such as
power stations and water treatment works, desiccant cooling for air
conditioning systems or within the chemical, food and pharmaceutical
industries. The Optidew Transportable allows engineers to check the
reliability of their installations over time, and give their customers
peace of mind in their choice of dryer – whatever the application. The
Optidew dew-point hygrometer works on the proven, fundamental optical
dew-point measurement principle ... |

Improved and unified UPR series,
ultrasonic sensors |
| |
SNT
Sensortechnik AG: Oil resistant: Thanks to the new transducer
sealing made of Viton® the UPR sensors are very robust against many
environmental influences. In particular, they are oil resistant, unlike
many other
ultrasonic sensors. The black annular seal between the white
transducer and the sensor housing is used for acoustic decoupling. Thus
it must be of elastic material. SNT Sensortechnik AG is now able to
offer this sealing in very resistant Viton® material. Uniformly: In the
context of product rework all old types of the UPR series are now built
in UPR 1003 version. This means a reduction in the variety of models and
in addition all UPR sensors will have full background suppression. These
improvements are now starting to flow into the production of all UPR
sensors. There are no additional costs for the customer. SNT
Sensortechnik AG is a specialist in ultrasonic sensors for ... |

Joining in Extremely Confined Spaces with
New Electromechanical NC Joining Module NCFS |
| |
Successful
automation of joining processes where room is at a premium and joining
stations closely spaced requires particularly slender modules.
Kistler developed its electromechanical NC joining module Type
2152B… for applications such as press fitting valve seat rings and valve
guides. Its specialized housing construction makes it particularly rigid
despite being very compact. Its special shape and a center distance of
just 70 mm allows very close spacing of neighboring stations on an
assembly line. A special high-precision guide also helps minimize the
amount of space required for mounting. The center distance can be
reduced even further by pressing eccentrically within the permissible
range. Several electromechanical NC joining modules NCFS Type 2152B… can
be assembled into a single joining station. This allows faster
throughput by avoiding the usual need to synchronize several assembly
stations. The integral piezoelectric
force sensor in the robust housing
of the NC joining module NCFS gives a choice of two predefined measuring
ranges of 15 and 25 kN. ... |

Redundant encoders - Safety
implementation in all its ramifications |
| |
At
the moment many operators in automation have to face the challenging
implementation of the new machine guideline 2006/42/EG. The new encoder
family MAGRES redundant by Baumer unites many of the resulting
safety requirements in one device. The redundant singleturn and
multiturn sensing system of the MAGRES redundant is unique and
unrivalled in its compact configuration. The integrated monitoring
system compares the values provided by the individual position systems
and will give an error warning in case of malfunction. The monitoring
system provides even more benefits: Less processing work for the
control, less cabling efforts and consequently a considerable cost
reduction. An emergency operation is also imaginable. SIL 3 approval and
PLe certificate are in preparation. MAGRES redundant provides top-grade
functionality without any compromise in compact design and robustness.
The
encoders are available ... |

New space-saving wireless position switch |
| |
Balluff
GmbH has expanded their product range of BNS electromechanical limit
switches to include an unusually space-saving wireless transceiver
solution for the licensefree 868MHz ISM band. The new, compact sensor in
the miniature series 99 housing features housing dimensions of just
40x20x51 mm and receives its power from a highperformance battery.
Installation, startup and function are identical to that of a
conventional
position switch. This new sensor now offers a size alternative to
the proven wireless solution with electro-generative power production in
the DIN standard F60 housing. Balluff single and multiple position
switches have proven themselves in machine tool building for decades. As
reliable trigger devices for automatic controllers, they are found
wherever precision positioning and end-of-travel sensing is required.
They are mechanically actuated, for example by a control cam. With these
new BNS sensors the signal transmission is without cable, eliminating
the need to route wire and cable. AS with the conventional BNS sensors,
the use can choose from among ... |

New Electromechanical NC Joining Module
NCFB – a Low-Cost Alternative |
| |
Kistler's
electromechanical joining modules facilitate automation of
force-displacement monitored joining and press-fitting processes. The
new NC joining module NCFB Type 2160A... has been specially designed for
standard joining processes and is an enhancement of the existing
product range. With its cost-optimized design, it offers a more
favorable price/performance ratio. The piezoelectric force sensor
integrated into the robust case offers a choice of two predefined
measuring ranges, 50 kN and 25 kN, for precision force measurement. Even
deep end points such as the position of bearings in half-shell gear
boxes can be easily reached with a 400 mm stroke. The speed of up to 150
mm/s offers a quick return stroke and hence a short machine cycle, even
for a long idle stroke. The use of the absolute encoder, which is part
of the standard equipment on all Kistler NC joining modules, eliminates
the need for reference point determination even during operation. The NC
Compact Firmware (2159A…), which is integrated into the servo
controller, is perfect for simple force displacement evaluation ... |

OPTISWIRL 4070 put to test |
| |
Krohne:
Today, natural gas is one of the most important energy carriers in many
factory processes with constantly increasing sales. In many companies
and plants it is an easy to handle fuel, without which operation is
virtually unimaginable. Although the current price tag of around 40
cents per cubic metre seems very low in and of itself, there are
considerable costs that come to bear in practice: For example, at this
gas price in a DN 100 natural gas pipe at 25 bars of pressure, 35
million euros flow through the pipe per year. In this case, it is worth
investing in precise measuring equipment, especially if internal
balancing of energy consumption is a goal. In this application, a vortex
flowmeter such as the OPTISWIRL 4070 C provides high accuracy at
minimal investment cost. In order to check the characteristics of the
OPTISWIRL when measuring natural gas, KROHNE had a production model
tested under practical conditions at the pigsar testing facility in
Dorsten. The high pressure gas meter testing facility ... |
