Ratio pyrometer for hot applications |
| |
Measurement
technology company Micro-Epsilon has extended its range of
temperature sensors with a new ratio pyrometer. The new thermoMETER CT
ratio will be on display at the SPS|IPC|DRIVES exhibition in Nürnberg.
The sensor is a non-contact
temperature sensor, which is only dependent
on the emissivity ratio but not on the absolute emissivity. The sensor
measures by using two short wavelengths close to each other and forms a
ratio from this. The emissivity of the target is therefore no longer
required for measurements. A faultless measurement is also possible even
in the case of a 95% weakening of the IR radiation due to smoke or
steam. The sensor provides a measuring range of 700°C to 1,800°C at a
maximum ambient temperature of 250°C without cooling and is primarily
used in metal processing applications. The sensor electronics unit
enables connection to Profibus, Ethernet, USB, RS232 or RS485. The
thermoMETER CT ratio operates with an optical fibre between sensor and
electronics. Therefore, electromagnetic radiation has no influence on
the sensor. A sighting laser is projected onto the target by the lens of
the sensor; this enables constant mapping of the real measuring spot
size. The standard focus of the lens is at a distance of 60mm. Using an
additional, variable focussing lens, the user can set the focus point
between 65mm and 300mm. The pyrometer can be used as a standard
single-channel IR sensor or as a ratio pyrometer. ... |

Rugged Pressure and Temperature Switches
for Nuclear Power Stations |
| |
With
the series ZPN, ZDPN and ZT, Baumer offers very robust pressure
and
temperature switches developed especially for the use in nuclear
power stations. The
pressure switches are suitable for pneumatic or
hydraulic control, for power generation safety equipments and for
pressurized chambers control. They are resistant to short duration
overpressure and show a good vibration resistance. The ZPN can measure a
gauge pressure from -1 bar up to 600 bar with a very small intermediate
range from -2 mbar up to 10 mbar. The ZDPN measures a differential
pressure from 2 mbar up to 120 bar. The pressure switches maintain a
constant pressure around a chosen set value. When the pressure reaches a
critical pre-set value, they trigger an alarm or safety system. A
flexible diaphragm actuates a micro-switch via a piston. The set point
adjustment is realised via a compressible spring mounted on the
opposite. Due to the force-balance principle, the dead band setting
remains constant, even with different set point adjustments. With rapid
pressure variations, an attenuator should be used to prevent a temporary
on- and off-switching. The ZT temperature switches are suitable for ... |

Accuracy enhancement for Mass Flow Meter |
| |
Bronkhorst
High-Tech B.V., specialists in low flow measurement and control,
have enhanced the accuracy of their MASS-VIEW® series
mass flow meters and regulators, which were launched in the second
half of last year. Following improvements to the production process, the
instruments now have an accuracy of ± 2%RD if the flow is higher than
50% of it’s maximum full scale and ±(1%RD + 0.5%FS) on lower flows.
MASS-VIEW® flow meters, the digital alternative to conventional VA
meters (variable area meters) incorporate a digital bar graph of actual
gas flow, which is, thanks to the OLED (organic light emitting diode)
technology, clearly visible from all angles, as well as indicating flow
units, gas type and totalised figures. Also available with an optional
in-built needle valve for flow control duties, it is designed to mimic
the straightforward features and vertical format of the VA meter, but
with the considerable added benefits of an electronic output signal,
high measuring accuracy, virtual independence from gas temperature and
pressure variations, freedom from parallax error and inherently safe
construction, with no fragile glass components ... |

Michell’s new sensor makes recalibration
and maintenance as easy ‘as changing a light bulb’ |
| |
Michell
Instruments’ I7000 ‘Hygrosmart’
humidity sensor makes the
maintenance of their relative humidity instruments quick and simple with
no down-time. The interchangeable module incorporates all calibration
data and is delivered together with a calibration certificate. To ensure
continued measurement accuracy over time, the user can ‘recalibrate’ an
instrument by simply replacing the old sensor with a new one. The
process is as quick and simple as changing a light bulb and no
specialist training is required. The new I7000 Hygrosmart
interchangeable module forms the base of a complete range of temperature
and humidity instruments, suitable for applications from precision
manufacturing to controlled environments and HVAC. With the current
levels of technology most manufacturers now provide the same level of
reliability, accuracy and longevity in their RH instruments. But the
majority of these instruments still require regular calibration or
replacement which means shutting down processes, sometimes for hours at
a time ... |

Monitoring and regulating H2 and Helium |
| |
Bronkhorst
High-Tech B.V., specialists in low flow measurement and control,
have expanded their MASS-VIEW® series mass flow meters and regulators,
which was launched in the second halve of last year. Thanks to a great
deal of engineering effort, the instruments can now also be offered for
the use on Hydrogen and Helium. MASS-VIEW® flow meters, the digital
alternative to conventional VA meters (variable area meters) incorporate
a digital bar graph of actual gas flow, which is, thanks to the OLED
(organic light emitting diode) technology, clearly visible from all
angles, as well as indicating flow units, gas type and totalised
figures. Also available with an optional in-built needle valve for flow

vertical format of the VA meter, but with the considerable added
benefits of an electronic output signal, high measuring accuracy,
virtual independence from gas temperature and pressure variations,
freedom from parallax error and inherently safe construction, with no
fragile glass components in the flow path. The new MASS-VIEW®
instruments are suitable for flow rates from 25 mln/min (SCCM) up to 100
ln/min (SLM) Hydrogen or Helium, covered by 3 models. The
flowmeters for 10 and 100 ln/min Full Scale have ... |

Radiometric Measurements of Super-latives |
| |
BERTHOLD
Technologies: In the area of radiometric measurement technology the
trend is heading towards lowest possible source activities. Berthold
Technologies is pioneering these developments. With its state of the art
Super-Sens, the company provides the worldwide most sensitive
radiometric detector for measuring point level, continuous
level and
density, setting new standards in source limitations. Compared to common
detectors, the source activity can be reduced by 70-95% when using the
Super-Sens detector. As an example the density measurement on a dredging
application can be taken, where a source activity of 185 GBq was
required in the past to solve the measurement task. By switching to
Super-Sens technique, the source size in this application was reduced to
5.5 GBq, which is equivalent to a factor of 34. The Super-Sens is
primarily used when vessels or pipelines with large diameter or high
wall thicknesses have to be penetrated. Furthermore, the Super-Sens is
the preferred solution when it comes to source exchanges, because
already existing sources can be used considerably longer when a Super-Sens
detector is installed. An up-coming source exchange can therefore ... |

Sierra Instruments Partners with Monterey
Bay Research Institute to Protect Marine Life from Ocean Acidification |
| |
Since
2005, Dr. Barry and his team at the Monterey Bay Research Institute (MBARI)
have depended upon Sierra mass flow controllers to help conduct
experiments to discover how rapidly increasing atmospheric CO2 levels
are affecting the enormous variety of marine animals in our seas. The
Monterey Bay Research Institute (MBARI) sits on one of the most
spectacular coastlines in the world. But beneath this beauty, the
Monterey Bay and our oceans are changing rapidly due to the influx of
CO2 in our atmosphere. According to Dr. Barry, a Benthic Biologist and
Senior Scientist at MBARI, about 1/3 of human CO2 gas emissions in our
atmosphere are absorbed by the ocean, making the ocean 30% more acidic
than just 100 years ago. “Ocean Acidification” is the new term that has
been coined to describe this process. Smart-Trak® Helps Dr. Barry Create
Different Aquarium: Early in his experiments, Dr. Barry was frustrated
with the performance of the mass flow controllers that controlled gas
inputs to his aquarium tanks. Barry remembers that he would waste
precious research time recalibrating these instruments almost every day
and laboriously changing
flow rates ... |
