Enormous surge in demand for the A-10
compact pressure transmitter |
| |
WIKA
has observed an exceptional surge in demand for its A-10 compact
pressure transmitter: Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2009 the volume of
orders has already grown by over 50 percent. WIKA attributes this
success, during this time of 'crisis', to the outstanding
price/performance ratio achieved through the simple design and the "lean
manufacturing". With the highly versatile A-10, which represents a new
generation of pressure transmitters, users in many areas of industry can
achieve large savings. At the beginning of August WIKA introduced two
shift production for the A-10, and in the light of this ... |

Lab efficiency and safety |
| |
With
its comprehensive sensor technologies portfolio for laboratory
automation, Baumer offers sensors for presence detection,
position verification,
level measurement, or object and code
identification. Test tubes and microwell plates are often tagged with
encoding, such as
bar codes. Baumer Smart Vision solutions allow for
different encoding types to be detected safely and also offer a
character recognition function (OCR). The code identification can be
combined with a crosscheck against other relevant specifications. This
feature increases the efficiency by allowing several inspection tasks to
be easily and flexibly performed in one step. When working with
microwell plates, highest precision is everything. The new Series 09
ultrasonic sensors conduct non-contact and cross-contamination-free
liquid level sensing in microwell plates with an accuracy of a
microliter. It is possible to cascade the nine-millimeter wide sensors,
which facilitates scanning the different fill levels in a 96 microwell
plate ‘on the fly’ in the course of a single scanning. Certainty about
the fill levels is important for the early recognition of potential
mistakes and for the verification of the analytical findings. The
demands on lab automation systems are ... |

CoMo Injection with MultiFlow Balances
Hot-Runner Molds on Basis of Cavity Pressure |
| |
Kistler:
The curve of cavity pressure during injection molding is the critical
process variable for evaluating part quality. It is also the most
informative controlled variable for balancing hot-runner systems. The
CoMo Injection process monitoring system Type 2869B…from Kistler with
the optional integrated MultiFlow function now combines comprehensive
process monitoring and automatic hot-runner balancing in a single tool.
Cycle by cycle, CoMo Injection with MultiFlow measures the pressure in
each cavity of a hot-runner mold – from injection, through compression
and holding pressure, to cooling phase. In the injection and holding
pressure phase the MultiFlow software function analyzes the curves of
the pressures in all cavities. With a view to identical filling and
hence a synchronous rise in pressures in all cavities, it automatically
calculates new setpoint temperatures for each hot-runner tip as
manipulated varia-ble. The system automatically transfers the calculated
setpoints via an interface to the hot-runner controller. The mold is
automatically balanced during process start-up, and continuous
optimization always keeps it stable during production. The balanced mold
therefore always exhibits congruent cavity pressure curves in the
injection and holding pressure phase. ... |

New: LMU 212 Load monitoring unit
compatible to CE regulation |
| |
Magtrol
SA: The LMU 212 Load Monitoring Unit completes Magtrol's range of "Load-Force-Weight"
products, by providing an amplifier for strain gauge bridges intended
for load measurement. The LMU 212 incorporates a strain gauge bridge
input as well as a voltage input, allowing a summation of the two
signals when needed. It can be supplied at 115 V AC/ 230 V AC or at 20,
32 V DC at the customer's choice. With regard to the output signals
available, the LMU 212 provides 2 relay outputs, 1 current output and 1
voltage output. The unit allows 2 alarms setting outputs particularly
usefull for load / overload survey on cranes and other lifting devices.
A built-in self-test system detects any short circuits or signal line
failures, thus allowing its use in security systems. The integrated test
function (B.I.T.E.) enables the user to simulate a fictitious load. At
each call of the B.I.T.E. function the user will be able to check on the
various outputs (voltage UO/P and current IO/P) as well as on the relays
REL1 and REL2 that the load monitoring unit reacts to this fictitious
load as if it would be a real load. ... |

Complete solution: Energy balancing for
Krombacher with KROHNE measuring technology |
| |
KROHNE:
Determining consumption data for internal balancing,
Flow metering hot water, steam and compressed air, Complete
measuring solutions from one source. The Krombacher Brewery was looking
for a suitable measuring technology solution for its auxiliary and
supply processes for internal energy balancing. This is an important
tool used in determining the leading consumers throughout the entire
brewing process. By positioning the measuring points, usage and thus
costs can be allocated to individual portions or segments. There was a
total of 26 measuring points to be equipped. At each point, either warm
or hot water, steam or compressed air was to be measured. In the past,
these media were supplied without exact knowledge as to where and in
what quantity they would be required. That makes it easy to reduce costs
by monitoring the compressed air network and adapting compressor output
to actual consumption rates. With the newly installed KROHNE measuring
equipment, the Krombacher Brewery can optimally monitor and control its
auxiliary and supply processes. Usage profiles can be created for
individual ... |

Draw-wire sensors for the testing of
rotor blades |
| |
Draw-wire
sensors from Micro-Epsilon are being used in the testing of new
wind turbine rotor blades at the Fraunhofer Institute IWES, Bremerhaven.
The test rig is designed for rotor blades with a maximum length of 70m.
The rotor blade distortion due to wind loads is simulated in this rig.
The tip of the rotor blade can be distorted by up to 10m due to
mechanical loads. The rotor blade is mounted horizontally in the test
rig for this. Steel cables are routed to the rotor using guide pulleys
and attached to the rotor blade at various positions, either directly or
via mechanical clamps. Twelve
draw-wire sensors from Micro-Epsilon are
used for to measure the distortion. Mounted on the rails on the floor
are two draw-wire sensors for each steel cable, which measure the
movement and the distortion of the rotor blade. The sensors of the wireSENSOR P115 series have measuring ranges of between 3m and 10m and
operate with a digital signal output. The sensors are particularly
robust due to their aluminium housing. ... |
