The Tailor-made Measuring Shaft |
| |
There
is rarely much room spare in modern machines, due to designs that
optimise the use of space. Thus the traditional method of attaching
instrumentation to the machine elements is not always possible.
MANNER Sensortelemetrie offers high-precision measuring technology
for such applications. The flexible circuit board and the rotor antenna
unit, with a height of only 3 mm, can be virtually wrapped around the
shaft. The measuring technology is also well-protected below an
oil-proof and waterproof encapsulation. Regardless of whether shafts or
flanges, sleeves or shaft couplings, every component can become an
intelligent measurement object. This way, the original parts are used
and no effort is required to design special sensors. The measuring range
and the zero point can be remotely adjusted online with a 16-bit
resolution (automatic zeroing).

Testing time for business jet |
| |
Sensor
Technology Ltd: Development and qualification testing of three flap
system actuators for the eagerly awaited new Falcon 7X business jet is
being performed on a test rig designed and built by Comar Engineering in
Wolverhampton and incorporating an innovative non-contact
torque transducer. The whole Falcon 7X project is packed with
innovation, from the virtual design techniques used in the early stages
that compressed the development time to a level totally unexpected in
the aviation industry, through to the choice of electric actuators
rather than hydraulic for driving the flight control surfaces. It will
be the world’s first fly-by-wire business jet, offering the pilots
benefits previously only enjoyed in fighter jets such as precise flight
path control and automatic trim adjustments during configuration
changes. Carrying up to 19 passengers it is a long range aircraft that
can operate from modest airfield; as such it could help to change the
face of business travel in the coming decades. Comar built a test rig
incorporating 22Nm and 200Nm TorqSense transducers from Sensor
Technology in Bicester for the development and qualification testing of
three flap system actuators, including Production Acceptance Tests,
Performance, Endurance, Mechanical Fatigue and Mechanical Strength tests ... |

Flow control per ultrasonic |
| |
With
its Type 8081 ultrasonic flow transmitter, Bürkert Fluid Control
Systems launches a completely new transmitter for monitoring or
controlling aqueous solutions. Applications include monitoring the
cooling water during robot welding, injection moulding, die casting, as
well as monitoring coolants in metal cutting applications. Thanks to the
ultrasonic technology, the 8081 is also ideal for all applications where
flow in a highly dynamic range (up to 1:500) needs to be measured with
great accuracy (2% oR + 0.01% FS) using sensors with no moving parts.
This very high dynamic range significantly restricts the types of
suitable
flow sensors. Measurement principle: The measurement principle
behind the 8081 is based on the transit time technique: two piezo-electric
sound converters (transmitter-receiver) transmit and receive the sound
waves. The sound travel times are measured in the nanosecond range. The
crucial point is that the
ultrasonic signal moves faster in the flow
direction than in the opposite direction: the difference in transit time
is directly proportional to the flow speed and can therefore be used to
determine the flow rate. An integrated patented measurement pipe
generates an homogenous flow profile ... |

Compact profile sensor for defined
measurement tasks |
| |
Micro-Epsilon’s
range of compact profile scanners has been expanded with the new
scanCONTROL 2710 sensor. This sensor series has an extremely compact
housing with integrated controller. The scanCONTROL 2710 provides a
complete solution for simple measurement tasks. Angles, steps and
positions can be recognised and tracked. The same is also possible for
profiles, including adhesive beads, weld seams, grooves and gaps. After
the sensor has been configured using the set-up software supplied as
standard, the system runs in standalone mode and can be connected
directly to a controller. Using the integrated controller, the sensor
can perform data acquisition, profile calculations and measured value
generation for the complete measurement field and at full resolution at
100Hz. The compact design of the sensor makes it particularly flexible,
either as a stationary measurement unit or in moving mode on, for
example, a robot. A small output module for DIN rail mounting is
available enabling the conversion of data into common fieldbus systems.
Using this, measurement results can be output using digital or analogue
modules for evaluation or further processing. The profile information is
obtained by using a static laser line, which is projected onto the
target surface. The diffusely reflected light is replicated on a sensor
matrix by a high quality optical system. The sensor calculates profile
data directly from the camera image and the relevant ... |

Optical distance sensors with maximal
resolution |
| |
With
the optical
distance sensors ODSL 9, Leuze electronic has extended its
family of
optical distance sensors and set new benchmarks for speed,
precision, compact design and comfortable operation. The devices feature
high precision up to 0.01 mm and short measurement times. The new
optical
laser distance sensors ODSL 9 are designed to be used in precision
applications of mechanical engineering and work according to the
triangulation principle. Like Leuze electronic's other optical distance
sensors, they stand out with high ranges relative to resolution. The
devices are available in two types, one with a resolution of 0.1 mm and
a measurement range of 50 to 450 mm, and the other with a resolution of
0.01 mm and a measurement range of 50 to 100 mm. Their speed is stunning
with a measurement acquisition rate of 500 Hz independent of measurement
distance and object characteristics. This turns the new ODSL 9's into
the ideal solution, in particular for moving applications. The speed can
also be used for filtering measurement values and for preprocessing via
statistical functions, allowing even more precise measurements to be
generated. The devices operate largely independent of object
characteristics and are nearly insensitive to gloss and structures. The
temperature stability in effect also contributes to precision. The
compact structure of the ODSL 9's in relation to their performance is a
first for optical distance sensors ... |
