Machine Vision ensures Guangdong Tyco
products quality control |
| |
Cognex
Corporation: Have you ever purchased a product from a reputable
company only to have it fail or stop working a short time after you
purchased it? Often, this is because the QA procedures employed by the
company aren't set up to check all products—many companies perform only
a random inspection during production. As part of the Fortune 500
company Tyco, Guangdong Tyco Electronics Co., Ltd. (U.S.) primarily
manufactures connectors and cable assemblies, with sales in 2007
exceeding $200M USD (over RMB Yuan 1.6 billion). As the largest global
manufacturer of electronic and electric components, Tyco Guangdong
Electronics' high production yield of 1000 of each set of equipment per
day at a maximum of 1200 pieces per minute makes on-line product
inspection nearly impossible for the operator to consistently control
the quality of all products on the line. For on-line product inspection,
a random inspection was the primary solution; however, it generated a
lot of waste and damaged equipment. This is why Tyco Guangdong
Electronics introduced a Cognex
vision system with the help of ... |

Laser distance sensor with serial
interface |
| |
Baumer:
The Series 12 family of laser
distance sensors are now also available
with the serial interfaces RS232 and RS485. The
laser
sensors / laser distance sensors OADM 13 have a convincingly compact housing (13.4 x 40 x 48.2 mm) and a
measuring distance of up to 550 mm. The triangulation method combined
with the precise optics and an intelligent signal evaluation allows
resolutions of up to 10 µm at a measuring rate of 900 µs. The sensors
are available with measuring ranges of 300 and 500 mm. Depending on the
application, the sensors are offered with dot shaped or linear laser
beams. Using the interface, the current data cannot only be recalled and
transmitted continuously, but it can also be e.g. gauged or archived in
a hold register where it can be accessed later. In case operational
reasons call for a temporary shut down of the laser, the correspondent
order can be transmitted through the interface. Thanks to the compact
housing, the sensor can ... |

Insulated Bimetal Thermometer TB for Cold
Water Systems |
| |
For
measuring the temperature in cold water systems, Baumer’s product
segment Process Instrumentation offers the bimetal thermometer TB in a
version with thermowell and PVC insulation protecting it against
condensation and hence corrosion. The thermometer is suitable especially
for HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), but also for other
sectors like the food and beverage industry. It can measure temperature
ranges from -30°C up to 500°C. The temperature measuring in cold water
systems, like air conditioning, heat exchangers or cooling water
circuits in nuclear power plants, often implicates corrosion on
pipelines and thermometers due to condensation. For those applications,
Baumer offers the bimetal thermometer series TB in a specially protected
execution with thermowell and a PVC insulation sleeve directly on the
immersion tube. The combination is easy to mount: First, the insulation
sleeve is screwed on the screw-on protection pipe and mounted in the
piping system. After finishing all further installation and construction
works, the thermometer ... |

HBM launches the latest version of
Perception data acquisition software |
| |
HBM
has released version 6.0 of its leading Perception data acquisition
software. Perception integrates multi-platform hardware control, live
display, data acquisition, review, analysis, report generation and data
export in one package. It has been designed from basic principles
ensuring that it is easy to use while allowing control of both small and
large-scale systems. This latest version adds live FFT capabilities to
the HBM Genesis HighSpeed product family, allowing users to visualize
signals simultaneously both in the time and the frequency domain.
Because it is PC-based, it is usable with any Perception-controlled DAQ
system, such as the portable GEN5i, GEN7t or GEN16t rack mainframes, and
LIBERTY. FFT is particularly useful, especially for customers that are
just starting out in frequency domain analysis, because of its ease of
use and high flexibility. For example, FFT can be enabled for
transferring signals currently shown in the time domain to the frequency
domain with a single click. The basic FFT option al-lows a choice of
window lengths of up to 1 million samples, four different weighting
filters, and analysis functions such as FFT Spectrum, Auto Power
Spectrum or Power Spectral Density. ... |

Rapid expansion means new premises |

A
second office move is on the cards for
torque measuring innovators Sensor Technology, reflecting the
rapid growth since its last relocated five and a half years ago. The
company will move its manufacturing, sales and marketing and
administration in June to Apollo Park, Banbury, three miles from its
head office and research and development facility. The head office is a
converted water mill deep in the Cotswold, and provided a home for the
whole company from its founding in 1976 until 2004, when the commercial
functions moved 10 miles to Heyford Park near Bicester. “The mill was
great for our start up period when we were developing TorqSense, our
contactless torque sensor,” says Marketing Manager Tony Ingham. “The
fact that it was off the beaten track helped us concentrate on the task
in hand. But once our sales started to grow, we needed somewhere with
better access and communications links. Heyford is just of the M40
motorway, which was great, and we were next door to a sister company.”
However growth of TorqSense sales, particularly on the overseas front,
has encouraged the directors to reassess. ... |

Series DCX 16 Level Probes - Autonomous
Data Collectors with Ø 16 mm |
| |
KELLER
AG:
Level measurement: 1.5 billion people around the globe have no access to clean
water. Managing water as a resource is therefore the challenge of the
21st century. A significant part of the world’s water resources is
located underground. Large areas are surveyed using
pressure sensors to
monitor changes in the water level in relation to usage as well as
rainfall. These sensors are inserted in wells up to 200 m in depth. The
major share of the cost of a measuring point is caused by the drilling
operation and the pipe inserted into the earth. Until now, pipes with an
inner diameter of 1 inch (2,54 cm) were mainly used, required by 22 mm
diameter sensors. KELLER’s new DCX-16 features a Ø 16 mm diameter
without compromising exactness, enabling much lower ... |

FlexLevel Switch 4401, configurable with
the FlexProgrammer |
| |
With
the FlexLevel Switch 4401, Baumer’s product segment Process
Instrumentation introduces a new hygienic
level switch which is suitable
even for high temperatures up to 180°C. It can be easily configured on
PC via the FlexProgrammer 9701. A bright blue light on top of the switch
shows when a media is detected. The indication can be seen easily even
if the sensor is mounted on top of a tank. The FlexLevel Switch 4401 is
the successor of the LSM and will be available from June on. It has been
developed for hygienic applications, so all wetted parts are made of
FDA-approved acid-proof stainless steel or PEEK thermoplastic. The level
switch complies with the EHEDG demands and is prepared for the 3A
approval which makes it ideal for use in the food and beverage industry.
For applications in hazardous areas zone 0, zone 1 and zone 2, the level
switch is available in an ATEX version. Already preset ex works and
without any further adjustment, the FlexLevel Switch detects the level
of liquids, viscous fluids and even dry media. For particularly
difficult media like adhesive substances, the teach-in function enables
a manual adjustment of the level to be detected. The switching status
can be chosen as “normally opened” or “normally closed”. The output type
can be chosen as PNP, NPN or digital out by the programming unit. The
level switch can be ... |

ID Readers save assembly time and improve
tracking of surgical instruments |
| |
Cognex
Corporation: Assembling accurate sets of instruments for the many
different types of surgery performed in a typical hospital is a
time-consuming and difficult manual task at most hospitals. Technicians
in the central sterile department typically wash instruments,
re-assemble them into sets based on pick lists provided by surgeons, and
sterilise them so they are ready for the next day’s surgery. The problem
is that when surgeons open the kit the next day instruments may be
missing and it may be necessary to delay surgery while technicians race
around looking for them. Censis has developed a software product called
Censitrac that allows hospitals to set up surgical set pick lists and
then ensures that the correct instruments are loaded into surgical sets.
A 2D Data Matrix barcode is electrochemically applied to each instrument
and this barcode is scanned during the assembly process to ensure
accurate set assembly and track the location of every instrument. It’s
very difficult to read a barcode on the shiny surface of a surgical
instrument. Censis went through five different generations of
ID readers ... |
