Latest transducer meets high pressure
challenges |
| |
The
latest P2V compact high
pressure transducers from HBM have
excellent measuring properties at up to 5 000 bar that are needed, for
example, in water-jet cutting systems. The P2V is suitable for measuring
both static and dynamic pressures with a measurement accuracy at 0.3 per
cent at 5,000 bar and 0.2 per cent in lower range models. Dynamic
pressure characteristics can be very precisely defined because of the
high measuring frequency of 4.5 kHz. The P2V’s precision can markedly
improve the dimensional accuracy of work pieces. The measuring body is
finished from a continuous piece of steel with no welded seams making
the transducers extremely robust and reliable with a long service life.
The P2V
pressure transducers are available for nominal (rated) pressures
of 0...100 bar up to 0...5,000 bar. A high-quality, low-noise DC
amplifier is directly integrated in the transducer, available either
with a voltage output (0.5...10 V) or a current output (4...20 mA). The
P2V supports Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) information to
store all essential transducer data ensuring the user can save
significant time and costs when configuring a measurement system. ... |

Fully Compensated Mini Pressure
Transmitter |
| |
KELLER
AG, the pressure measurement technology specialist, has now
introduced miniaturized absolute
pressure transmitters (Pisello type,
series 20 P), featuring optimized temperature compensation and measuring
ranges from 10 bar to 600 bar. Keller developed the ingenious PromComp
principle as many as 20 years ago, and it can now be exploited to full
advantage thanks to the general miniaturization of electronics. A
circuit no larger than a cent coin compensates the Pisello pressure
transmitter perfectly against fluctuations in operating temperature. A
temperature sensor in the PromComp divides the temperature range into
fields with a width of 1.5 Kelvin each. Two values are assigned to each
field in an EEPROM: one value for the zero point and another for the
amplification, determined by ... |

3-Component System for Measuring
Machining Forces during Turning |
| |
With
Type 9129A… Kistler Instrumente AG is introducing a 3-component
system for measuring machining forces (cutting force (Fc), feed force
(Ff), passive
force (Fp)) during turning processes. The modular system is based on
the dynamometer Type 9129AA, which is also new. The modularity allows
different lathe adapters (VDI, Coromant Capto and clamping unit for
standard turret) and various sizes of turret adapters to be mounted on
dynamometer with a minimum of manipulation. Toolholders for cutting and
boring tools can also be readily mounted on the cover plate of the
dynamometer. Type 9129A… is suitable for machining forces of up to 8 kN.
The special design of the dynamometer minimizes temperature error. The
piezoelectric sensor system on which this measuring system is based
measures the forces with virtually no displacement. Ground loop problems
are largely avoided by ground-isolated mounting of the sensors. Provided
matching cables are used, the corrosion-resistant dynamometer is
protected against ingress of cutting fluids to IP67. On inclined bed
lathes with two turrets the measuring system can be mounted over or
under the workpiece. The components of this system are designed to
ensure that - irrespective of the mounting position ... |

Customer-specific eddy current sensors
for OEMs |
| |
Micro-Epsilon
provides extremely flexible solutions in the area of
eddy current
sensors for OEM applications. This flexibility ranges from cost-optimised
sensor systems with highly integrated electronics through to innovative
sensors with silver/palladium coils embedded in glass/ceramic. In this
way, these sensors achieve high levels of temperature stability and
service life that were previously not possible. The sensors can also be
used in the most difficult operating conditions (pressure, temperature,
aggressive media, high vacuum). The sensors are easily adapted in terms
of form, size and design. Separate electronics is not necessary as all
the sensor’s electronic components can be incorporated in the
multiple-layer ceramic substrate. Therefore, solutions with detached and
with integrated electronics are now possible. Sensors with a
glass/ceramic substrate are intended for applications in aerospace and
defence, semiconductors, power station construction or for industrial
applications with high loads. The sensors can also be used in clean
rooms or in an ultra-high vacuum as they are hermetically-sealed and
offer correspondingly low gas emission rates. Micro-Epsilon therefore
provides a cost-efficient solution for OEMs to develop and supply
eddy

World’s smallest inductive encoder |
| |
POSIC
introduces the world’s smallest incremental
inductive
encoder kit ID1101
for linear and rotary applications. It measures only 8.7 x 6.3 mm with a
thickness of 0.8 mm and has an A quad B output stage that runs up to a
frequency of 200 kHz. The linear/rotary target is a 0.8 mm thick
strip/disc that comes in different lengths/diameters. The linear
resolution ranges from 1 um at a speed of 0.5 m/s to 150 um at 50 m/s.
The rotational resolution depends on the disc diameter and is for
example 12 bits (1024 A-B pulses per revolution) with a 30 mm diameter
disc. Typical applications are in the motion-control domain with
magnetic actuators like brushed and brushless motors, voice coil
actuators, linear drives and more. Markets served include industrial,
automotive, robotics, medical, instrumentation, laboratory automation,
office equipment. Evaluation kits with linear or rotational targets are
available from stock. ... |

High functionality in a very compact
space, Compact process layouts with Robolux valves from Bürkert |
| |
At
this year’s Hannover Messe 2009, Bürkert Fluid Control Systems
presented a new in-novative highlight with the Robolux valve. The
multiport valve integrates two indepen-dently operated valves beneath a
single membrane. This patented design saves volume and dead space, and
therefore makes it possible to design more compact layouts even for
complex processes. Robolux valve solutions completely redefine
space/performance ratios. In downstream processes in particular, the
pneumatically or manually controlled valves excel thanks to their low
volumes and dead space reduction. Their sophisticated design also means
that Robolux valves can be very efficiently and easily cleaned. This can
be a crucial advan-tage, especially when downstream sterile processes
are involved, such as filtration or chromatography. ... |

New Capacitive Sensor Technology Allows
for Continuous and Contact-Free
Level Measurement |
| |
Sensortechnics’
CLC series uses a new contact-free
capacitive sensor technology to
continuously measure the fill level of liquids as well as granular or
pulverized materials. The miniature sensor can be easily mounted to the
outside of a container or vessel and is able to measure through almost
any non-metallic wall material. The level sensing range of the standard
device is up to 10 cm which can be enlarged in special multi-sensor
configurations. The non-invasive design, with no contact between the
sensor and the fluid, eliminates all media compatibility and sterility
issues. The device is highly flexible and the user can easily calibrate
the sensor to measure to the desired levels, media and application
set-up. The CLC series achieves a very high accuracy and reliability due
to an additional reference electrode which compensates for all changes
in ambient environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. As
an optional safety feature the sensor can be supplied with an extra
sensing pad to detect if a container is actually present or not. The CLC
sensor offers an analog voltage output as well as a digital interface.
Sensortechnics can also provide modifications of its

Compact strain transducer offers high
security for industrial process monitoring |
| |
|
HBM has introduced the 6 mm high SLB-700A
strain transducer to
measure strains on solid components, such as cranes and bridges, where
high loads need to be measured. The compact size of the strain
transducer means that it can easily be mounted on any component with
standard M6 hexagon socket screws. The SLB-700A has a measuring range of
500 µm/m and provides a high safety reserve with a breaking strain of
300 per cent. The strain is transmitted through the connection with the
component to the
strain transducer. The change in length is transmitted
in the strain transducer to an integrated strain gage, which supplies an
output signal through an appropriate circuit that is proportional to the
change in length. The SLB-700A’s housing is made of stainless steel and
meets IP65 to protect the strain transducer against environmental
influences. It can also be used under harsh ambient conditions, such as
in industrial applications. Typical applications for the strain
transducer are ... |

VisionPro from Cognex tackles bottle
alignment |
| |
Cognex
Corporation: The Grolsch brewery in the Netherlands, one of the
largest Dutch breweries, relies on the expertise of two German companies
who built them a machine with one simple goal - to sell more beer! The
machine in question is not a mere beverage dispenser but a system
relying on VisionPro from Cognex which uses special grippers to rotate
and align the bottles so that they are in the best position with optimum
visibility. Tradition, innovation and business thinking are all combined
into a beverage machine which promotes sales. Improving presentation at
the point of sale: As one of the leading companies in the brewery
industry, Grolsche Bierbrouwerij Nederland B.V. does not only
concentrate on optimising its logos, labels and other advertising media.
The company thought about how it could improve the presentation of its
product at the point of sale. As a result, Grolsch rotates the bottles
which are visible through the opening in the crate so that their labels
point symmetrically towards the outside, thus allowing them to project
the optimal image to the beer connoisseur in the supermarket. ... |

Mini car turboloader telemetry up to 200
000 rpm |
| |
Manner
Sensortelemetrie GmbH: In a time when oil prices are constantly
rising and CO2 is being talked about in continually expanding circles, a
car's gas consumption is extremely important for its sales success. The
turboloader contributes to improving vehicle efficiency. For this
reason, a series of new turboloader developments is going on right now.
During qualification, the rotating components must especially be
evaluated and optimized with regard to stress with respect to their load
limits in various operating situations. It is known that these
turboloaders in vehicle applications turn at speeds of up to 200 000
rpm. The company Manner has further expanded its turboloader telemetry
range. The newest addition is the new miniature turboloader telemetry
for passenger car applications with the tremendous speed range of 200
000 rpm, which allows the measurement of bearing
temperatures,
torque and blade
vibrations online. A special characteristic of the rotor electronics
is their miniaturized design. ... |

Sensor system for the internal inspection
of bore holes |
| |
A
development project for a bore hole sensor envisaged by Micro-Epsilon
last year has now resulted in a marketable product. The miniature
confocal sensor with a diameter of just 3.4mm can now be used to measure
the internal walls of bore holes with a diameter of at least 4.0mm. The
sensor, which is rotated by an electric stepper motor, can measure the
diameter, roundness, concentricity, tapers and the straightness of bore
holes. A complex integrated precision ball bearing system provides the
required rotational stability. The system comprises a stainless steel
measuring head with integrated mechanics, a sensor probe, a confocal
sensor and two controllers. Similar to linear standard systems, confocal
technology is suitable for different types of surface. The system does
not require any reference points during measurements as it can also
recognise edges and steps. At full power, tapered bore holes can only be
partially measured, as the light spot is reflected past the optical
system. However, in the case of a suitable surface, it is possible to
measure the diffuse reflection if the power is reduced. Due to the
installation length of the sensor, bore holes up to 45mm in depth can be
measured. In doing so, the sensor probe is guided into the ... |

New flue gas analyser from Michell saves
on installation and maintenance costs with innovative design |
| |
Michell
Instruments’ XZR-500 flue gas analyser can help save companies
thousands of dollars due to its innovative metallic sealed reference
sensor (MSRS), which operates reliably in temperatures up to 1500°C. The
analyser’s semi-in-situ location makes it easy to install, simple to
operate and economical to maintain. Ideal for applications such as
combustion efficiency for boilers or industrial waste incinerators, the
XZR-500 provides the speed of response and simplicity of installation of
an in-situ analyser combined with the longer sensor life span associated
with an ex-situ analyser. The XZR-500 is installed immediately adjacent
to the sampling point close to the radiation zone. Taking the
measurement within this point of high-temperature gives reliably
accurate readings while installations further down the process have the
risk of contaminating the sample gas with ambient air leakages,
resulting in false readings. The probe is designed to operate
effectively in temperatures up to 1500°C – unlike many similar products
on the market ... |

Mechatronic pressure gauges now also in
filled and hermetically sealed versions |
| |
WIKA
has extended the performance range of its mechatronic
pressure gauges of the intelliGAUGE series. Products of the
PGT23.063 series are now also available in the filled and/or
hermetically sealed versions per IP65. Both options are suitable for the
use in mainly rough operating conditions. The hybrid instrument is a
combination of a pressure gauge (nominal size 63) and an electrical
output signal (4 ... 20 mA). The version filled with silicone oil
eliminates undesired pointer oscillations. Even in case of vibrations or
strong fluctuations in pressure, the instrument provides reliable
measurement results. The electrical assembly is not complicated. The
selected angled connector of the 718 Binder connector series is equipped
with a simple and long-lasting threaded locking system. In addition, the
connector is moulded at the cable and therefore meets the requirements
regarding the desired leak tightness of the case. ... |
