Winners of this year’s SENSOR Innovation Award Chosen

SENSOR+TEST 2009AMA Association for Sensor Technology: The team from Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg wins the SENSOR Innovation Award 2009, endowed by the AMA Association for Sensor Technology with 10,000 euros. Among the 63 submissions, 22 from abroad, this project clearly stood out. From the start, the group from Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, or more precisely the Institute for Microsystem Technology, with its PIMMS (planar integrated micro-mass spectrometer) was among the favourites. However, it was hard for the jury to make its final choice. The competition was just too high quality to make it easy, but the PIMMS project succeeded because it unifies all functional components into the worldwide smallest mass spectrometer. This promising innovation convinced the entire jury. “Due to the record participation this year, our task to select a winner out of the many truly excellent submissions was especially tough,” says jury chairman, Prof. Dr. Andreas Schütze from the Saarbrücken University. Nevertheless, the Hamburg University won the race with its PIMMS. “What really convinced the jury,” explains Schütze, “was the consistent integration of the mass spectrometer, including all ...
