KiBox® To Go – Mobile Combustion Analysis
at Highest Level |
| |
The
Kistler Group looks back on 50 years of long experience of engine
measurement technology. It is now also setting new standards with its
advanced KiBox mobile combustion analysis system. The KiBox To Go Type
2893A… allows very accurate determination of the key combustion analysis
parameters in real time under actual operating conditions. With the aid
of CrankSmart® technology, the crank angle signals of the vehicle's
sensor can additionally be used for accurate engine combustion analysis.
This avoids the previously necessary optical crank angle encoder and
strikingly reduces installation and maintenance work. An easily
understood user interface, use of PiezoSmart® sensor identification and
automatic plausibility checks guarantee prompt measurement availability
and high-quality data. Integration into the INCA application system
ensures combustion analysis parameters can be recorded and analyzed
synchronously with the ECU nominal data. ... |

Triple Air Core Gauge Driver lowers costs
of display meter applications |
| |
Melexis
targets the launch of the new MLX10420, a triple air core gauge driver
with serial interface, at automotive and industrial applications. The IC
is able to drive up to 3 air core meters: two 360 degree meters and one
90degree meter resulting in a significant cost reduction. The MLX10420
is a microprocessor peripheral for air-core meter control with SIN/COS
PWM drivers and serial commands. The circuit controls two independent
sets of CMOS power bridges. A 10-bit angle is displayed with 9 bits per
quadrant resolution PWM whose frequency is set by an on chip oscillator.
A power-on self test detects open or short-circuit outputs for each
air-core meter. A real time angle tracking scheme avoids display errors.
The chip can additionally drive one small angle air-core meter (90°).
The communication with the microprocessor is done via a three wire
serial link. A beneficial feature on the MLX10420 is the special ... |

New pressure transmitter P-30, Precise,
fast and compact |
| |
When
using
pressure transmitters for precision measurements, users often had to
compromise depending on the priority of the requirements. The new P-30
from WIKA now combines the three most important characteristics
of its instrument category: This product, which has been presented for
the first time at the INTERKAMA+ 2009 fair, is highly precise, very fast
and at the same time very compact. For the development of this new
pressure transmitter, WIKA looked at the requirements of engine test
bench technology in the automotive sector. In these test benches, a
quick data acquisition and analysis plays a more and more important role
in the tests for optimising the power trains. The used measuring
instruments must therefore fulfil high demands with regard to accuracy
and measuring rate. The P-30 transmitter is characterised by a high
precision with active temperature compensation. Its fast measuring rate
- up to 1 ms - allows a data acquisition of up to 1 kHz. The new
pressure transmitter works with an accuracy of up to 0.1 % without
additional temperature error in a range of 0 ... 50 ºC. Excellent values
with regard to the non-linearity of the characteristic curve and its
long-term stability can be added. WIKA has concentrated this high
measuring quality of the P-30 in very little space. In comparison with
its predecessor P-10, the size of the new instrument has been reduced by
30%. Thanks to its compact and robust design, the pressure transmitter
can be ... |

Sensor system for the internal inspection
of bore holes |
| |
A
development project for a bore hole sensor envisaged by Micro-Epsilon
last year has now resulted in a marketable product. The miniature
confocal sensor with a diameter of just 3.4mm can now be used to measure
the internal walls of bore holes with a diameter of at least 4.0mm. The
sensor, which is rotated by an electric stepper motor, can measure the
diameter, roundness, concentricity, tapers and the straightness of bore
holes. A complex integrated precision ball bearing system provides the
required rotational stability. The system comprises a stainless steel
measuring head with integrated mechanics, a sensor probe, a confocal
sensor and two controllers. Similar to linear standard systems, confocal
technology is suitable for different types of surface. The system does
not require any reference points during measurements as it can also
recognise edges and steps. At full power, tapered bore holes can only be
partially measured, as the light spot is reflected past the optical
system. However, in the case of a suitable surface, it is possible to
measure the diffuse reflection if the power is reduced. Due to the
installation length of the sensor, bore holes up to 45mm in depth can be
measured. In doing so, the sensor probe is guided into the bore hole
using a linear unit provided by the customer. Depending on the setting,
individual planes can be measured or a spiral profile of the bore hole
can be produced. If the sensor becomes damaged, the sensor probe can be
replaced quickly. The system is used in industrial applications for the
quality inspection of bore holes in production lines or in test
environments. ... |

Kavlico Air & Fuel Filter Restriction
Pressure Sensors Help Heavy Duty Truck & Bus Engines Run More
Efficiently |
| |
Kavlico,
a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) has
released two
pressure sensors for the heavy-duty truck and bus market sector
which assist in optimizing engine performance. Kavlico’s air filter and
oil filter
restriction pressure sensors assist systems that monitor filter life
and performance. Good filter condition is important for engines to run
cleanly and efficiently. Precisely measuring and mixing the correct
amounts of air and fuel is a critical element in modern internal
combustion engines. When an air filter or fuel filter becomes clogged
the ratio of air-to-fuel can be compromised. When an air filter becomes
obstructed an engine can receive too much fuel in proportion to air,
causing the engine to run “rich”. Running rich decreases efficiency and
can release unburned hydrocarbons into the exhaust stream as a result of
incomplete combustion. The opposite is true when a fuel filter becomes
clogged. In this situation an engine can be forced to run on too “lean”
a mixture. This can decrease power and potentially cause engine damage.
To avoid these conditions, Kavlico air and fuel filter sensors can be
used to help monitor filter life and performance. This can help engines
complete the combustion process more efficiently and cleanly. Fuel
filter restriction sensors often measure in the -10 to 0 psig range
while air filter restriction sensors can monitor even smaller pressure
deltas such as -1.5 to 0 psig. ... |

Contrast Scanner in a New 'Dimension' |
| |
With
the outstanding EasyTune and YellowBoost features, Leuze electronic
presents the KRT 3B contrast scanners in a new 'dimension'. They are the
smallest with respect to their size, but—relative to their low
volume—the biggest with regard to performance. Contrast scanners of the
KRT 3B series from Leuze electronic distinguish between grayscale
values, enabling them to detect minimal contrasts. As a result, a check
can be performed for the presence of text or imprints or socalled marks
detected. With the new KRT 3B devices, all three transmitter models—RGB
light, white light and laser light—are available in an exceptionally
small construction. In addition to the standard design, the sensors are
also available in stainless steel, in the proven WASH-DOWN and HYGIENE
designs. The small size of the new contrast scanners belies their high
performance. With extremely short response times of up to 50 µs and high
repeatability, these scanners—the smallest with respect to housing
volume—are actually the biggest. With regard to their configuration
options, they also perform big. Here, IO link makes onsite configuration
possible with unmatched ... |

Fully standalone universal controller |
| |
A
new controller from Micro-Epsilon opens up multiple potential
applications. The electronics unit on the new CSP2008 Universal
Controller takes over the processing of up to six sensor signals and is
primarily intended for thickness and planarity measurements. Two sensors
can be directly connected to the controller. Four other sensors are
connected to the controller via separate Ethercat modules. All
processing takes place internally. The CSP2008 is able to perform
extensive arithmetic calculations of several sensor signals and is
therefore one of the most advanced controllers for digital signals
currently available. An optical display with high luminance enables easy
reading of the measured values during daylight from a distance of
approx. two metres. Due to the very high data transfer rates of
Ethernet, Ethercat and RS422, the data output is performed extremely
quickly. The Ethercat interface is intended for real-time applications.
The internal communication between I/O components also runs using an
Ethercat connection. It is also expected that users will use Ethercat as
an external interface for connecting further sensors and further I/O
modules. Easy configuration and display options ... |

photoelectric sensors, Leuze electronic has reduced size and,
at the same time, improved performance in comparison to previous
devices. Now even closer to the dispensing edge, they are characterized
above all by improved response times and repeatability. The new GS 61
and GS 63
optical forked photoelectric sensors complement the successful GSU
14B and IGSU 14B
ultrasonic forked sensors to create an outstanding performance
portfolio. They are specially designed for the detection of
non-transparent labels and, with their three millimeter wide fork
widths, can be used for a wide range of applications, including the
processing of booklets or folded labels. The extremely flat lower fork
in slim-line design enables simple installation directly at the
dispensing edge and in installation situations with very limited space.
The GS 61, the world's smallest forked
photoelectric sensor for
label technology in industrial quality, offers maximum installation
freedom. With very visible markings, both devices enable fast alignment
of the label tape. The connection options are ... |

First pressure transmitter for mobile
hydraulic applications which fulfills new safety standards |
| |
MHS-1
is the first
pressure transmitter launched on the market by WIKA which
fulfills already now the new EC Machinery Directive that will come into
effect soon. It was especially developed for safety-critical mobile
hydraulic applications. All over the world, there is a trend to increase
the safety standards for the protection of human beings and the
environment. This is also applicable for the mobile hydraulics sector.
For this reason, the new EC Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) - and
together with this directive, the safety standards EN ISO 13849-1
(Performance Level, PL) and IEC 61508 (Safety Integrity Level, SIL2) -
will become effective at the end of this year. In accordance with these
new standards, WIKA has developed a special
pressure transmitter for load monitoring, brake monitoring and drive
control to be used in commercial vehicles. Essential product features
are a redundant measurement of pressure and signal processing as well as
two output signals working independently of each other (4 … 20 mA,
2-channel) in a single instrument. Therefore, the MHS-1 has
extraordinarily space-saving dimensions and the installation can be done
in a shorter time compared to the use of two
pressure transmitters. ... |

DataNet Network for Government Monitored
Umbilical Cord Blood Lab |
| |
|
Fourier Systems Ltd.: The DataNet system application is an
umbilical cord laboratory where cord blood stem cell research is carried
out and cord blood is stored. The Taiwanese government requires daily
reports on the laboratory's deep cold refrigerators and room
humidity and
temperature environment status. To meet the government requirements
they needed a computerized solution that could measure and produce
printed reports via the lab computer system. The lab decided that the
DataNet solution features were most appropriate in helping them respond
to Ministry of Health's strict regulations. Umbilical cord blood is
considered a key resource in stem cell research. Until recently
umbilical cord blood was considered medical waste to be disposed of
after the birth of a newborn, however today medical perceptions have
dramatically changed. Today umbilical cord blood and the plentiful
cryopreservation of the stem cells found in the cord blood are
considered life saving. Umbilical cord blood is a 100 percent biological
match to the newborn. Commonly the blood is now used in stem research
and stored in specialized cord blood banks. These specimens perform two
potentially valuable functions. They can help future patients in need of
stem cell transplants or act as a private source for the newborn child
and their family. A simple network has been applied and utilizes five
DNL920 loggers, one DNL910 and one Receiver. The external
PT100 temperature sensor measures room temperature and the internal
RH sensor monitors humidity inside the laboratory. Additional
sensors including
thermocouple temperature sensors, with a range as low as -80º C, are
used to ... |
