the approval of the Series 22 DT transmitter Keller AG für
Druckmesstechnik, Winterthur (Switzerland) has succeeded in moving
into the area of production engine applications that are governed by
extreme demands. So-called dual-mode vehicles have experienced a
tremendous boom due to the voluntary commitment of European car
manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions to 140 g/km by 2008. These
vehicles can be operated using normal petrol during the start-up phase
and then with natural gas during continuous operation. The combustion of
natural gas such as methane (CH4) creates 25% less CO2 than petrol with
the same engine performance. The pan-European introduction and promotion
of this dual-mode technology has forced leading manufacturers to undergo
additional system optimisation that includes exact control of the gas
pressure and highly-dynamic measurement of the gas temperature directly

 On
the 60th anniversary of the company, Berthold Technologies is
launching the new detector generation SENSeries to the market and is
setting new standards in the radiometric process control. The SENS-Detectors
stand out by their unique and extreme high sensitivity to gamma
radiation. New measurement accuracies can be achieved, well above those
possible with radiometric systems to date. The extremely high
sensitivity also means that existing sources can be used for a longer
period. Instead of an expensive source exchange, the life of the
existing sources can be extended by many years, or even decades, by
using a new SENS-detector. Moreover, in new projects the high
sensitivity results in a considerably high reduction of source activity.
Depending on the application, the source activity can be reduced by up

Electric: Imagine the tank containing liquid chemicals starts
leaking and nobody notices! Thanks to a new
optical sensor for leak monitoring from Baumer, this will only
remain in your imagination. The FODK 23 is screwed or glued onto a floor
panel next to the facility that is to be monitored. Typically, only 1ml
of liquid on the floor is sufficient for the sensor to react. Therefore,
the leak is detected at an early stage, which prevents more severe
damage. The small, round housing of the FODK 23 with integrated
evaluation electronics consists entirely of a chemically resistant
Teflon PFA sheath. As a result, the sensor is particularly suitable for
applications involving discriminating materials. The clever installation
clip made from PRA or PVC allows the sensor to be mounted and dismounted

pressure transmitter from WIKA is now also available with Neumo
BioControl process connection. It therefore offers all possibilities of
dead space free instrumentation: alongside the BioControl, there are
also clamp, threaded and connections to DIN 11864-1. With this, and
pressure ranges from 0…250 mbar to 0…25 bar, it ideally satisfies the
high requirements of sanitary applications. The SA-11
pressure transmitters were specifically developed for applications

To keep an engine or gears in optimum working order, numerous parameters
have to be continuously monitored, with corrective intervention should
there be any deviation. Two of these parameters are the oil level and
the oil temperature. The combined
level and
temperature sensor aids vehicle diagnostics in modern commercial
vehicles, construction machinery and agricultural machinery. With this
level sensor, which uses the hot-wire principle, it is possible to
determine the level of the gear oil or engine oil in a 150 mm
measurement section. Only by monitoring the level of the liquid can we
be certain that the engine is not running with too much oil, or that,
unobserved, the level has dropped to too little. Engine damage is
avoided. The
level sensors are also available with an additional temperature
sensor. The
temperature sensors are designed with a Pt1000 shunt resistor
conforming to EN 60751, Class B, in a 2-wire circuit. But Pt100 and
Pt500 sensors, as well as NTC and semiconductor sensors, are also

In the chemicals industry, measuring gases is often more than simply
measuring the flow: process analysis technology is an important
instrument when indicating quality and when it comes to guaranteeing
process reliability. At the same time, it also helps in process
monitoring and optimization. To reduce risks for humans and the
environment, certain critical processes must be fitted with safety
functions. To do so, the safety variables such as the probability of
failure and the portion of dangerous and non-dangerous errors must be
calculated for all relevant components and analyzed. In the course of
the current standardization to IEC 61508, process analytics are coming
