Strain links – Force measurement made easy

Baumer Strain links, force measurementBaumer Electric: DSRT strain links from Baumer are screwed onto the surfaces of machines that are under pressure. In these positions they detect linear strains. Thanks to a calibration of the complete system, the extension can be converted into a force. Since they only need to be screwed, strain links are easy to install. Therefore, they provide a good alternative to strain gauges (S/G) that are glued directly onto the machine or to load cells that have to be integrated into the machine. This particular task often proves to be complicated and cost-intensive. Using a strain link can save between 40 and 90 minutes, compared to the glued S/G. The strain link can also be screwed onto the machine again easily after needing service. The sensor is reliable with small as well as superimposed strains. The special geometry of the measuring element transforms the extension mechanically, which results in higher resolutions. Additionally, the optimized design of the measuring element allows to decouple bendings and torsions from the linear extension. Hence, they do not influence the measurement results. Due to an integrated amplifier, the design of the sensor is very compact. With the taring function of the amplifier the sensor can be reset at any time. Strain links are used for easy force measurements ...

New Video Instructions for Popular Label Sensor

The very popular LRD6110 label sensor from Lion Precision now offers video setup instructions. Unlike photo-eyes (optical sensors), the LRD6110 does not use changes in contrast for operation. The sensor works equally well with standard labels and clear-on-clear labels without the need for “eye-marks.” The setup procedure is slightly different than a photo-eye. To aid customers in getting the highest performance and quickest setup time, Lion Precision now offers a Video TechNote on their web site providing a clear explanation of the concepts and techniques used in adjusting the sensor. “While the sensor is quiet easy to setup thanks to the light bar display, nothing makes instructions clearer than video,” according Mark Kretschmar, communication manager for the company. Other video TechNotes are available. More setup videos are planned for other sensors. Lion Precision manufactures the world’s leading clear-label sensors with nearly 40,000 installed around the world. The company’s primary product line is capacitive and eddy-current noncontact sensors. This technology was adapted for label sensors in 1995 when no other technology could detect clear labels. ...

PCB Piezotronics Introduces New Submersible Accelerometers

Submersible Accelerometers, acceleration sensorsPCB Piezotronics, Inc. introduces a sealed, watertight, integral cable assembly that ensures signal fidelity is not compromised due to liquid ingress. Available on many PCB® sensors, this alternative sealing technique is extremely valuable when used in gearboxes, transmissions, flow tubes and valves, sealed chemical reactors with mixers, and when measuring structural reactions to turbulence. In many industries, a component or location that requires testing or monitoring may be splashed or submerged in water, oil, or other liquid rendering the test invalid and possibly even destroying the senor. While consideration must be given to the sensor housing material, accelerometers are devices that generate electrical signals. In order to prevent contamination and degradation of the measurement signal via the cable, it is imperative to protect the signal transmission path to make certain the liquid will not chemically compromise the seal; using a PCB sensor with the new watertight integral cable assembly virtually eliminates worry, downtime, and added expenses, allowing for continued, accurate measurements. PCB Piezotronics, Inc. is a global leader in the design and manufacture of force, torque, load, strain, pressure, acoustic and vibration sensors ...

Real-time thermography with miniature design

thermoIMAGER TIM, infrared camerathermoIMAGER TIM is the new infrared camera from measurement technology company Micro-Epsilon. The camera, which can be used in a fixed position, has a very robust construction and is currently one of the smallest infrared cameras in the world. This provides important benefits, particularly in the case of limited space applications. Another special feature of the camera is its absolute measuring method. This unique system assigns a temperature value to each pixel of the IR image. The thermoIMAGER TIM is a fixed, infrared camera for the recording and presentation of temperature images and profiles. It provides measuring ranges between -20°C and +900°C. The FPA detector used provides very precise results with 160x120 pixels for a pixel size of 35µm. Despite its compact installation size, the product is impressive because of its ease of use. The integrated USB 2.0 interface enables the camera to capture 100 images per second in real time. The signal can also be output via analogue from 0-10V. The standard sensor ...

JUMO dTRANS p20, new process pressure transmitter - easy operation, stainless steel housing

Jumo process pressure transmittersThe new JUMO dTRANS p20 transmitter series expands JUMO’s top-of-the-range pressure measuring instruments. The best pressure sensors have been combined with ease of operation in a new stainless steel housing. The new stainless steel housing makes the transmitters ideal for all areas of application where they need to be easy to clean, as well as having optimum corrosion resistance. The food and pharmaceutical industries are two of the important sectors here. But there are also many harsh industrial environments, in chemical and offshore applications, where a lightweight, corrosion-resistant stainless steel housing has advantages over a conventional, painted aluminum housing. The new variant, with a short housing, has a key feature. Electrical connection is via an M12 connector, instead of the conventional cable gland. This has created a particularly compact device which can also be used, for example, when circumstances ...

Non-intrusive full/empty limit switch at small diameter pipes (10...50 mm)

Non-intrusive full/empty limit switchSONOTEC: The optimized ultrasonic limit switch SONOCONTROL 15 detects quickly and reliably whether a pipe is filled with liquids / liquid gases or not. The compact sensor is mainly used in plants of the pharmaceutical sector and the food industry. Here, the SONOCONTROL 15 is employed for the protection of pumps and the control of filling systems. The known advantages of the limit switch, such as the non-intrusive ultrasonic measurement through the wall as well as the precise distinction between empty and liquid filled pipes, have been upgraded by further favourable characteristics. The simplified installation method of the 2-wire system for example, which can be carried out even during system operations, guarantees an optimal use of the device. Due to a new pipe fastening system made of plastics the sensor can be relocated quickly and easily. Furthermore, the advanced firmware assures a stable operating mode. ...
