Ballistics
Pressure Sensors Now Available
with Improved Thermal Shock Performance |
| |
|
PCB Aerospace & Defense, a division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc.
introduces Series 119B and 109C dynamic ICP® and
charge output pressure
sensors, specifically designed for measurement of internal ballistics.
The rugged
piezoelectric pressure sensors are structured with
acceleration-compensated quartz sensing elements and detect rapid
pressure transients and are ideal for high pressure ballistics
measurements. The sensors feature an advanced ceramic coating on the
diaphragm for thermal shock delay during pressure measurement, which
eliminates the need to be replaced on every shot, like other designs
that require thermal baffles. The ceramic coating also allows flush
mounting, thus avoiding a recessed, grease filled passage, as with
front-sealing types of
pressure sensors. This flush mount feature is
ideal for ballistic and near-field air blast measurements. ICP® output
features on-board electronics to provide a conditioned output signal and
ease of use, with the ability to transmit noise-free signals over long
cable runs. Charge output versions are also available, which allows use
at higher temperatures when using a remote, in-line charge amplifier.

Dew Point Sensor Calibration Exchange
Program from Michell extended to the new Easidew TX I.S. |
| |
Michell
Instruments are delighted to announce they have extended their
successful Sensor Calibration Exchange Program to the recently
introduced Easidew TX I.S.
Dew Point Transmitter. The key to the Michell’s Calibration Exchange Program is the innovative Easidew sensor
technology. Michell Instruments’ Advanced
Ceramic Moisture Sensor is
coupled with advanced microprocessor based measurement circuitry to
produce a fully calibrated and interchangeable sensor transmitter. All
calibration data is stored within the transmitter’s flash memory and so
calibration exchange, or service, can be affected in seconds, even by
untrained personnel. The Easidew TX I.S. is simply disconnected, removed
from its sampling block and replaced by a new fully calibrated unit.
When periodic re-certification is required to maintain traceability.
Michell will organise an individual exchange programme for the customer,
so that the process is never out of operation. The Easidew TX I.S.
series is designed for ease of use, incorporating all the features the
user could want to make installation and operation as simple as
possible. Installation costs are minimal because of the transmitter’s
ruggedness and simplicity. On-going operating costs are low because of
the transmitter’s stability and reliability. For the first time,

New Oxygen Analyser Product Line from
Michell Instruments |
| |
With
over 30 years’ experience in delivering highly reliable solutions in gas
analysis, the Michell Instruments Group has responded to the
demand for an integrated product offering with a range of high
performance
Oxygen Analysers. The new product line uses recent
developments in technology to measure of oxygen at both trace (ppm)
levels and percentage oxygen concentrations and is suited for both clean
environments as well as harsh and hostile applications. It is a natural
step in Michell Instruments’ growth strategy. The variety of oxygen
applications mean that a particular type of oxygen analyser, developed
with a specific technology, is required for each situation. The complete
range of Michell Oxygen Analysers use a selection of technologies each
suited to a different set of applications. The analysers of the XZR-400
and XZR-500 series are based on the unique MSRS Zirconium Oxide
technology for accurate and repeatable oxygen concentration measurement.
The XZR-400 is designed for
detecting oxygen in clean gases while the
XZR-500 is designed for flue gas analysis. Due to their patented
metallic sealed reference Zirconium Oxide Sensor, there is no need for
reference air making the installation of both ranges simple and cost
effective. The XTP-600Y and XTM-600 Series are rugged industrial analysers housed in explosion-proof enclosures. The XTP 600Y is based on
the Michell proprietary advanced thermoparamagnetic technology with no
moving parts. This makes the sensor ideal for applications where it will
be exposed to movement and vibration – such as on board an oil tanker.
The XTM-600 Series uses both the traditional paramagnetic (dumb-bell)
oxygen sensor ... |

Exact measurement of residual oxygen
content in furnace exhaust gas |
| |
The
MF010-O-LC dynamic
oxygen measuring system from J. Dittrich
Elektronic is the fail-safe way to determine the residual oxygen
content in furnace exhaust gas. With the help of a coupled controller
the excess air specified for reasons of safety can be minimised and
combustion in the furnace optimised, thereby increasing efficiency. In
this way it is possible to compensate for fluctuations in the quality of
fuels for modern wood firing. Contrary to a lambda probe which measures
the relative oxygen content, the extremely robust oxygen measuring
system determines the absolute content, i.e. the oxygen partial pressure
in the exhaust gas. For this reason, fluctuations in air pressure,
humidity and temperature have no influence on the accuracy of the
measurement. The system is calibrated electrically, without reference
gas and without additional personnel, in atmospheric air at the end of
the furnace’s ventilation phase, thereby reducing maintenance work. This
is made possible by a dynamic zirconium dioxide sensor ... |

Micro-Epsilon receives large sensor order
for segmented reflector telescope |
| |
Sensor
specialist Micro-Epsilon has received an order from the Chinese
Academy of Science to supply 600
eddy current sensors to the largest
Chinese reflector telescope LAMOST (Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre
Spectroscopic Telescope). The telescope is located in the Chinese
observatory Yinglong Station near Peking. LAMOST is a new type of
segmented reflector telescope for the spectroscopic surveying of space.
A primary mirror receives the light from space and directs it to a
correction mirror, which is in the focus of the primary mirror. The
corrector, in turn, bundles the light information on an optical element
such as, in this case, the fibre optic cable. The telescope has a
primary mirror diameter of approx. 4m. The primary mirror and corrector
comprise 46 or 24 individual mirror segments. The segments can be moved
and can therefore be adjusted to different receiving angles between -10°
and +90°. Due to the high optical resolution, the mirrors must be
precisely aligned with each other. 600
eddy current sensors from
Micro-Epsilon are used to achieve the required precision. The sensors
were selected because of their sub-nanometre resolution ... |

WebConverter makes
gas detectors fit for
the Internet |
| |
Conventional
gas detectors mostly transmit their measured values via a 4-20 mA
output. While such data has to date frequently been further processed
locally by means of special gas warning units, nowadays many users want
to query their measured values online or evaluate them with their own
systems. That is why J. Dittrich Elektronic has developed a
WebConverter that converts the analogue measuring signals from up to
three detectors into digital signals using Modbus TCP/IP protocol. Since
both the measured value is output and the power supplied over the
Ethernet (PoE), the WebConverter is connected to the downstream device
with a patch cable. The WebConverter has its own web server as well as a
MAC address. Using configuration software, it is therefore possible to
configure the WebConverter from a PC and integrate it in the Internet or
subnet. ... |

Kavlico Provides “Green” Pressure Sensing
Options for Emissions Control |
| |
Kavlico,
a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) is
currently working with transportation industry OEMs to reduce and manage
vehicle emissions. Kavlico is committed to creating a healthier
environment not only for this generation, but also for those to come.
This undertaking is being accomplished while improving overall engine
performance and efficiency without escalating operating costs. Kavlico
has been at the forefront of emission pressure sensing technology for
years. The company is continuing to develop a full line of
“green-minded” sensors for passenger vehicles using either gasoline or
diesel fuels. Newly enacted regulations require exhaust gas monitoring
and filtering in diesel engines to remove particulate Matter (PM), thus
minimizing the amount of pollutants pumped into the air people breathe.
Three common methods used to control and manage emissions are Diesel
Particulate Filter (DPF), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), and NOx
reduction systems. Kavlico sensors have lead the way in all of these
areas. In fact, Kavlico was the first to mass-produce a
differential
pressure sensor for DPF applications that indicates when filters should
be “regenerated.” This is commonly a process involving incineration of
toxic exhaust particles trapped in the filter. Kavlico
pressure sensor

Magnetic cylinder sensors - Exact
detection of piston positions |
| |
Baumer
Electric: The new, magnetic T and C slot cylinder sensors from
Baumer are employed to detect the exact position of pistons in pneumatic
cylinders. Many automation technology applications require pneumatic
cylinder movements of to be closely monitored and the exact piston
position to be detected. In order for the sensor to achieve a precise,
repeatable switching behavior, each sensors activation sensitivity is
exactly defined and individually tested. The compact and rugged plastic
housing offering IP 67 protection provides reliable operation even under
the harshest and most moist conditions. The MZTK 06P1003 line of sensors
for T slots can be easily and quickly installed in the slot from above.
No cylinder disassembly is required, even if both front faces are
equipped with installation panels. The universally applicable standard C
and T slot sensors can also be used for round cylinders and cylinders
with tie-rods. Baumer offers various accessories which permit this. The
result is a reduction of the required sensor types and a simplification
of the warehousing. All sensors are available in ... |
