In the past
ultrasonic sensors for measuring corrosive media levels or
in applications involving machinery and equipment being cleaned with
corrosive liquids could often not be used. This was very much down to
the corrosive effect on the
ultrasonic transducers of these liquids and
their emitted gases. microsonic has now developed a special zws sensor
design on the market. It involves the entire sensor housing - including
the
ultrasonic transducer - being provided with a special parylene
protective coating. The result is that the whole of the sensor is
hermetically protected. Thanks to this novel protective coating, zws
ultrasonic sensors can now be used in corrosive environments. This new
sensor range is called crz. Completely new applications are thus being

Association for Sensor Technology: On occasion of its trade fair
SENSOR+TEST, to be held May 26-28, 2009 in Nürnberg, Germany, AMA
Association for Sensor Technology has announced its international
competition for the SENSOR Innovation Award, which is endowed with
10,000 €. “We had more submitted entries than ever before, and their
quality was very high. This gave the jury a tough time reaching this
year’s decision for the first round nominations to the Award” said jury
chairman Prof. Andreas Schütze from Saarland University. A record of 63
innovations were submitted. “Over the last years, the proportion of
non-German entries has stabilized at about one third. This turnout is
quite pleasing. We congratulate the nominees for being picked.”
Intention of the SENSOR Innovation Award is to reward to the individual
developers themselves rather than companies or institutes. Most
important judgment criteria are degree of innovation and usefulness for
applications. After thorough deliberation, the jury decided on the

5Vdc and provides a linear amplified output of 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc that is
proportional to pressure. Specifically designed for
pressure
measurements of 0-15 through 0-1,000 PSIA/PSIG, the P265 has low power
consumption, superior long-term stability, and excellent repeatability
and hysteresis. Other significant features include over-voltage, reverse

collaboration project between BMW and Micro-Epsilon |

Bavarian Research Foundation is using € 650,000 to promote the
collaboration established in September 2007 between BMW’s Dingolfing
plant, Micro-Epsilon, one of the leading providers of
high-precision sensors, measuring equipment and systems, and the
Institute for Software Systems in Technical Informatics Applications (FORWISS
Passau) of the University of Passau. The two-year research project
involves the development of a new optical measurement process for the
industrial quality control of reflecting surfaces. In the automotive
industry, s well as making purchasing decisions based on the
functionality of products, consumers are also heavily influenced by the
external appearance of the vehicle. The shiny surface of a vehicle is
critical here, as well as the technology inside the car. However,
perfect paintwork requires maximum attention during the complete
painting process. Conventional measuring systems are often not
sufficient to detect very small unevenness, bumps or roughness on the
shiny, reflecting surface. However, the human eye of the customer can
detect these imperfections very well. As a result, the consistent and
intensive quality inspection of surfaces is becoming more and more
important in the automotive sector. Innovative measuring processes and

applications with a factory molded urethane boot and urethane cable.

accelerometer features shear design ceramic seismic
elements for high natural frequency and ruggedness. An on-board
miniature IC amplifier converts the very high impedance voltage signals
from the crystal to a much lower impedance level which allows this
