High pressure S8000 from Michell saves
money in compressed air and gas ... |
| |
Michell
Instruments’ S8000 Integrale cooled mirror
hygrometer is able to
cope with sample gas at pressures of up to 17 barg. This means a reduced
response time which can help save users time and money in dry
applications – such as compressed air and bottled gases – where low
dew-points are reached. Pressurising the sample speeds up the response
time because the gas will have a higher dew point than the same sample
at atmospheric pressure. This is because the water molecules are
squeezed closer together under pressure making the sample ‘wetter’ than
it would be at atmospheric pressure. For example, a pressure dew point
of -65°C at 17barg is equivalent to an atmospheric dew point of -100°C.
With the higher dew point under pressure, the S8000 is able to reach the
temperature and stabilise much fast than with the lower atmospheric dew
point. The response speed of the instrument has been further enhanced
with updates to the S8000 firmware to allow the tracking of any minute
dew point changes in the sample gas. All this is good news for
manufacturers of ... |

New systems for the measurement of
compressed air |
| |
SONOTEC:
Saving energy is an important issue for all types of industry operating
with compressed air. The new probes of the SONOAIR series, belonging to
our high-precision measurement devices, are equipped with a lot of new
details. These probes are able to detect the consumption of compressed
air and non-combustible gases as well as leakage losses. There exist
three different device series: Inline probes for pipe diameters of 15 –
50 mm, insertion probes for pipes with a diameter between 50 and 1000 mm
and combined devices. The latter do not only
detect the flow rate but
also the temperature and the pressure within the pipe. For on-site
interpretations there exist integrated displays or interfaces for using
a PC or a Laptop. Alternatively, the measured data can also be stored on
a data logger or a memory card. The systems can be installed easily.
They show a high measuring accuracy. The additional software allows
external data interpretations as well as detailed process controls. ... |

Laser micrometer offers twice the
measuring range |
| |
Laser
micrometers are now available from Micro-Epsilon that provide
more than double the existing measuring range. The two new models are
called optoCONTROL 1202-75 and optoCONTROL 1202-100. The measuring range
of these two new devices are 75mm and 100mm respectively. The sensors
are therefore ideally suited to applications where previously two laser
micrometers had to be used, since the measuring range of one sensor was
insufficient. An additional controller unit is not required for the two
new models Nevertheless, the transmitter and receiver unit has a height
of just 30mm. For both measuring instruments, the transmitter is
separate from the receiver; therefore, the measuring instrument is
extremely flexible for mounting. The measuring device is fully digital
with a CCD array as the receiver. In this way, a very high, independent
linearity of 0.2% is possible. Easy-to-use configuration software is
included as standard, which enables the measuring device to be easily
adjusted to suit the application. For simplified commissioning, the
target value can be adjusted, for example, by using potentiometers on
the back of the device to define Teach-In or switching limits. The
optoCONTROL 1202 operates with a visible Class 2 laser. The laser light
and interference filter make the device insensitive to external light
influences. The transmitter projects ... |

Kavlico General Purpose Pressure Sensor
Utilizes a Mixed-Signal CMOS ASIC |
| |
Kavlico,
a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) has
developed the P255 general purpose
pressure sensor with advanced
electronics for enhanced performance. The mixed-signal CMOS ASIC
provides for improved EMI/RFI and accuracy specifications. Specifically
designed for
pressure measurements of 0-15 to 0-1000 PSIA/PSIG, the P255
is a robust device utilizing a ceramic diaphragm that can withstand
exposure to a wide array of liquid and gaseous process media. Excited by
5 Vdc, the P255 provides a linear amplified output of 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc
that is proportional to pressure. The sensor has low power consumption,
superior long-term stability, and excellent repeatability and
hysteresis. Other significant features include over-voltage, reverse
polarity, and short circuit protection. The P255 has a 316 stainless
steel housing and has an operating temperature range of -40° to +125°C.
Due to the sensors high shock and vibration tolerance, it is well suited
for applications such as: Hydraulic systems, Refrigeration and HVAC
systems,
Gas tank pressure monitoring,
Level measurements, Coolant
pressures, Agricultural chemical equipment, Marine systems, Aggressive
fluid measurements ... |

Eddy current sensors in tribology testers |
| |
Eddy
current sensors from Micro-Epsilon are once again being used in a
new high-performance test system at the Institute for Tribology at the
Clausthal Technical University. The new tester, which is currently under
construction, will be used to examine the tribological, flow mechanics
and rotor dynamic processes of highly loaded sliding bearings at maximum
circumferential speeds of the shaft. Based on previous positive
experiences with Micro-Epsilon
eddy current sensors used on existing
testers for examining hydrodynamic radial plain bearings or plain
bearings with particularly high loads, eddyNCDT series sensors will also
be used in the new tester. In doing so, the shaft reaches
circumferential speeds of up to 200m/s; conventional test systems
achieve a maximum of 120m/s. The position of the test bearing housing
and the relative movement between the rotor and the test bearing is
detected in the tester using
eddy current displacement sensors. The
bearing gap of the plain bearing between bearing surface and rotor is
also measured using
eddy current sensors. Or this, 22 sensor channels
will be integrated in the test structure. Miniature eddyNCDT sensors
with 0.5mm measuring range are used due to their high cut-off frequency
and high resolution. Another key criterion is the sensor’s small
installation footprint. Therefore, measuring points for very tight
installation requirements are possible without requiring any disruptive
modifications to the test design. High environmental compatibility is
also a key reason for selecting eddy current sensors: oil or water in
the measuring gap, high temperatures or strong electromagnetic
interference ... |

Highly sensitive radiometric detector on
fieldbus basis |
| |
BERTHOLD
Technologies GmbH & Co. KG: The Super-Sens detector which is
internationally renowned for its unmatched sensitivity, is now available
for the fieldbus systems HART, Profibus PA and Fieldbus Foundation. LB
490/491 Super-Sens combines highest sensitivity with the advantages of
the Uni-Probe detectors and can be used for
continuous level measurement
or density measurement as well as level switch. With a high- quality
organic scintillator, which is considerably bigger than the ones
commonly used, the Super-Sens gains an outstanding high sensitivity for
gamma radiation. This property leads to extremely reliable measuring
results - even under difficult measuring conditions - by using smallest
intensities of radiation sources. Already existing sources can be used
considerably longer when installing the Super-Sens detector. Thereby, an
upcoming exchange of sources can be postponed by several years or even
decades. ... |

New KTE2000CS Submersible OEM
Transmitters Measure Low Liquid Levels From 0.5 m H2O |
| |
Sensortechnics’
new KTE2000CS
submersible OEM pressure sensors offer precision
hydrostatic low level measurement
from only 50 mbar (0.5 m water column)
Full Scale. The KTE2000CS series consists of highly accurate capacitive
ceramic pressure cells in a rugged stainless steel construction. They
feature excellent long term stability and are compatible with many
corrosive and aggressive liquids. The KTE2000CS transmitters are
calibrated and temperature compensated from -20…+70 °C and provide a
4...20 mA output signal. A special cable with an integrated vent tube
allows a true reference pressure to the sensor element and eliminates
errors due to atmospheric pressure changes. The sensor is protected
against environmental conditions to the IP68 standard and withstands
overpressures of up to 10 times the rated pressure. Important features
of the new KTE2000CS series are: - Low
liquid level measurement from 50
mbar (0.5 m H2O) Full Scale - Capacitive ceramic pressure cells in a
rugged ... |
