Lowcost
draw-wire sensors measure up to
7.5m |
| |
The
latest
draw-wire sensor
from measurement technology manufacturer
Micro-Epsilon is the wireSENSOR MK120. This new MK model is part of
the company’s well-established low-cost
draw-wire sensor range and
offers a measuring range of up to 7.5m. This is currently the largest
measuring range available in this product range. The new
draw-wire
sensor completes the company’s MK sensor series. The sensor’s ultra
compact design and large measuring range is particularly beneficial to
the customer. The MK120 series is available with measuring ranges of
3,000mm, 5,000mm and 7,500mm. The sensors are available with outputs of
4… 20 mA, 0 … 10 V or potentiometric outputs. Derived from numerous
standard draw-wire sensors, the MK120 is based on extensively tried and
tested technology. A significant difference from the standard sensors in
the series is the housing, which is made from glass fibre reinforced
plastic (GRP) rather than metal. The sensor can therefore be provided at
a relatively low cost for high volume orders. With a measuring range of
7,500mm, applications that require a large measuring range and a
low-cost sensor can now be used. In the case of special requirements,
other signal types and particularly redundant variants are also
optionally realised for the MK series. ... |

PCB Piezotronics Announces New Wheel
Force Transducer Series |
| |
|
PCB Automotive Sensors
Division introduces Series 5400
Wheel
Force Transducers (WFT), for road load data acquisition applications.
Designed as rugged one-piece units that mount between the vehicle hub
and the wheel rim, these units deliver highly accurate measurements and
superior performance in a durable water-resistant package. Units are
available in a wide variety of sizes for vehicles including passenger
cars; light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks; commercial vehicles
including tractor trailers, buses, agricultural, and earth-moving
equipment; and military vehicles. Passenger car and light truck units
use a custom hub adapter to mount to the vehicle; while heavy truck
units mount directly to the axle hub. The units can be fitted with
either slip ring or telemetry signal transmission, and come equipped
with on-board signal conditioning and calibration circuitry for each
channel of data measurement, making their setup and use with a
Transducer Interface Unit (TIU) quick and easy. Possessing superior
temperature compensation properties and integral overload stops, these
sensors provide a high level of confidence in data acquired during heavy
braking tests. These sensors are also ideal for calibrating and
adjusting biaxial wheel test machines; drive-file development of full
vehicle and module test systems up to 6 Degrees of Freedom (DOF); and
product development of stability control, suspension, and tires. ... |

New catalog highlights
strain gages for
transducer manufacturers |
| |
The
latest catalog from HBM highlights the benefits to transducer
manufacturers of using strain gages as the sensing element in many
transducers. Typically manufacturers develop transducers using
strain
gages for weighing technology applications - from home scales to crane
scales – and in force and
pressure measurement applications. Every
strain gage featured in the catalog is based on the latest carrier
material, PEEKF, which is an enhancement of PEEK that has been used so
successfully to date. PEEKF is less hygroscopic than PEEK preventing
transducer zero drift and, since the material does not tend to distort,
the strain gage lies completely flat on the component to make
installation easier. PEEKF is also more robust than other carrier
materials leading to fewer failures during installation when, for
example,
strain gage connections are soldered. The catalog has 48 pages
and presents all of the different strain gage types that are available
as well as accessories such as adhesives, bonding materials, cleaning
and covering agents. Useful background information on the application
and configuration of
strain gages is also included in the catalog. ... |

PCB Piezotronics Announces New In-Line
Rotary Torque Sensor System Series |
| |
|
PCB Automotive Sensors Division introduces Series 5300D TORKDISC®
In-line
Rotary Torque Sensor Systems designed for test applications
requiring a robust
rotary torque transducer where axial space is at a
premium. Onboard, the transducer is a field proven electronic module
that converts the torque signals into a high-speed digital
representation. Once in digital form, this data is transmitted to a
non-contacting pick-up loop, with no risk of noise or data corruption. A
remote receiver unit converts the digital data to a high-level analog
output voltage, and a serial digital output. Series 5300D incorporates
dual high level analog outputs, AC and DC coupled, providing both static
and
dynamic torque measurement capability that can be recorded
separately and independently scaled; which is particularly beneficial
when high DC levels are present or when low levels of AC content is of
particular interest. Series 5300D also features industry leading DC
bandwidth to 8500 Hz, resulting in increased dynamic response
characteristics. The DC coupled output features an 8-pole low pass
elliptical filter with user selectable frequencies for minimal roll off
at each filter selection. A 2-pole Butterworth high pass filter with a
wide range of user selectable cut off frequencies is included with the
AC coupled output. Series 5300D TORKDISC® units are ideal for
applications such as automotive engine, powertrain & chassis dynamometer

Capacitive Sensors - Aggressive media
safely detected |
| |
Baumer
Electric: In quite a number of fill level applications there are
liquids to be detected which require sensor housings and media
containers to be made of materials of strongly improved properties due
to their chemical reactivity. The new Baumer
capacitive sensors provide
interesting new approaches to many of these challenging cases. Since the
sensors' electrical field of detection is capable of penetrating through
insulating materials such as plastics, glass, cardboard etc., non
invasive detection of both liquids and solid matter is possible from the
outside. Capacitive sensors can therefore monitor fill levels in closed
containers whilst being attached to the outside container wall. Compared
to sensing methods requiring direct contact with matter, there are a
number of advantages. On one hand, this approach provides an excellent
protection for the sensor itself, which assures a long live expectancy
as well as a high degree of process safety. On the other hand, the
medium to be detected or monitored cannot be contaminated by the
sensor’s housing. The detection behaviour of
capacitive sensors is
influenced by the dielectric constant of the surrounding materials.
Certain limitations apply when detecting liquids and objects exhibiting
a low dielectric constant using the existing, flush-mounted
capacitive

New fork and angle sensors |
| |
Sensor
specialist and connectivity provider Balluff has completely
revamped their comprehensive line of fork and angle sensors. Now
available to the use is an expanded product range including four
distinct product lines. In addition to two performance-enhanced product
lines with highly visible red light for standard applications and highly
focused laser light for small parts detection with a resolution of down
to 50 mm, sensors are now available with a pin-point LED using
especially homogenous red light for exact positioning tasks plus a
family using infrared light for applications in dusty environments. The
compact processing circuitry is housed in a rugged, IP 67 rated metal
enclosure. The sensing face of the sensor as well as the operator panel
– consisting of an LED function indicator and two potentiometers – are
integrated flush with the housing to protect from damage. Depending on
the model these sensors offer a high switching frequency of 3 or 5 KHz
and are available with NPN or PNP output. Startup is simple and
practical. All that is needed is a common screwdriver to set light-on or
dark-on switching using a potentiometer and setting the desired
sensitivity. The new sensors are ... |

SCHMIDT®
Flow-sensor SS 20.260 for
process technology |
| |
For
the employment in process technology the latest SCHMIDT®
flow
sensor SS 20.260 offers three crucial upgrades compared to his
forerunner. With an expanded measuring range of 0 … 50 m/s the sensor
can be applied for flow rate control in a wide range of systems. Many
processes require the measurement of heated gases and therefore an
enhanced operating temperature. Depending on the configuration of the SS
20.260 it is up to 120 °C. The temperature can be measured with an
additional linear output and no separate sensor is required any more.
The unit is robust due to a chamber in which the sensing element is
protected against impacts. The stainless steel sensor tube is available
in different length and thus can be placed at the correct position
regardless of the size of the duct. Two LED’s indicate the correct
operation or inform about wrong supply voltage or sensor defects.
Applications: Flow measuring in air ducts, volume flow measuring in test
benches, control of combustion air of oil, wood, gas or coal burners,
flow control in cooling or drying constructions. Main technical data:
Immersion sensor with integrated transducer. Use of sensor: Free air and
guided air in ducts from ... |
