New thermowells for
temperature
measurement in sterile process technology |
| |
A
new type of
thermowell for the process adaptation of electrical and
mechanical
thermometers in sterile process technology has been developed
by WIKA for national and international markets. This development
has incorporated specific customer requests from the food, beverage and
pharmaceutical industries. The thermowell model TW22 is available both
with all standard connection variants, for example milk thread fitting
and clamp connection, and with aseptic connection to DIN 11 864 or the
specially developed welding ball. Ideally, it can be combined with the
TR22
resistance thermometer, which protects the sensor from rough
process conditions. In combination with the TR22 resistance thermometer,
the connection head plus measuring insert can be pulled out. This allows
the thermometer to be calibrated along with the entire measuring chain –
without disconnecting the electrical connections. As this also avoids
opening the process environment, the hygienic risk is drastically minimised. ... |

Stable micrometer for sheet thickness
measurement |
| |
Micro
Epsilon has launched a special C-clamp system for measuring the
thickness of sheet strips. The inline system makes it much easier for
metalworking companies to measure sheet thickness during the production
process. With a width of just 50mm, the clamp can be easily integrated
into existing systems. Two new types of
laser sensors are mounted
opposite one another on one axis on the micrometer. These sensors
measure the distance to the surface of the sheet from two sides. The
exact thickness of the sheet is calculated from the two distance
signals. This method provides continuously reliable measurements and
wear-free operation. The acquired data is used to regulate the
production process or for quality control purposes. During coil changes,
a master part is placed in the measuring gap, which automatically
compensates the system and re-calibrates the C-clamp for new
measurements. The very stable design of the system makes it possible to
measure depths up to 1.000mm to the sheet ... |

New
cooled mirror hygrometer for
anti-icing systems of gas turbines |
| |
The
new generation of the Optidew Hygrometer from Michell Instruments
was designed especially for applications in anti-icing systems for
stationary gas turbines. In power generation plants located in
environments with low temperatures and high relative humidity, there is
a risk of ice forming in the air intake systems, leading to many
potential problems. Firstly the accumulation of ice on the filter
elements will block the filter and lead to loss of power through a drop
of pressure and reduced mass flow. In turn this will lead to reduced
thermal efficiency. In extreme cases, chunks of ice may be ingested into
the compressor and cause physical damage to the turbine. Protecting
against icing is vital to prolonging the life and efficiency of the gas
turbine. Ice protection systems vary between de-icing and anti-icing,
the latter usually featuring a precision hygrometer such as the new
Optidew for Anti-icing Systems. Applying the fundamental cooled-mirror
measurement principle, it delivers a repeatable, drift-free dew point or
relative humidity measurement. The robust design of the new Optidew
hygrometer ... |

Virtual Reference: reduced costs and
increased safety for chemical processes |
| |
Many
chemical processes concern highly aggressive media. KROHNE’s
range of
electromagnetic flowmeters OPTIFLUX with a high chemical
resistance, is ideally suited to measure aggressive, toxic and abrasive
fluids. Up to now for these applications grounding rings or grounding
electrodes made of exotic thus expensive materials, such as tantalum,
nickel or titanium had to be used. This involves considerable
investments. The possibility to omit grounding rings or –electrodes is
the most economical solution. KROHNE now offers an alternative to
classical grounding: virtual reference. The innovative and patented
concept does not require the installation of grounding rings or
grounding electrodes. The technology company Andritz, headquarted in
Austria, uses KROHNE’s IFC 300 signal converter with the Virtual
Reference option and OPTIFLUX 4000
flow sensors with diameters from DN
10 up to DN 300. The devices are used in lines in which acids are
treated, like for example with high grade steel corrosives. Hydrofluoric
acid, nitric acid and water are blended just before the flowmeter The
acids are measured at an operating temperature of 90 Degrees Celsius,
under a pressure of 3 bar and at a flow velocity ... |
