Laser sensors for reflecting surface

Laser sensors for optical distance measurement from Micro-EpsilonSpecial sensors for optical distance measurement of direct reflecting materials are now available from Micro-Epsilon. Designated as the optoNCDT 1700DR, this new series expands the manufacturer’s already extensive sensor family. Three sensors with the measuring ranges of 2mm, 10mm and 20mm are designed specifically for use with polished metals, glass or chrome-plated products. The high measuring rate of 2.5kHz and the maximum resolution of 0.1µm make precise measurement of the desired targets possible. The reflected laser beam is guided into the receiving array by tilting the sensor and is then directly converted into an electrical signal by the integrated controller. The design is identical to the successful optoNCDT 1700 standard series. As well as the integrated controller, the series also incorporates a foil keypad directly on the sensor, whereby adjustments without configuration software are possible. The comprehensive ILD Tool 1700 software, which also makes a measured value display possible, is included as standard for more simplified operation of the sensor at a computer. A different tilt angle is ...

Heavy Duty Fiber Optic Rotary Encoder For Hazardous Locations

Fiber Optic Rotary EncoderNewbury Park, California, Micronor’s new MR316 ZapFREE™ Fiber Optic Rotary Encoder is designed for heavy duty, industrial motor drive applications requiring high reliability, EMI immunity, ATEX compliance, IP66 ingress protection and even operation in extreme temperatures. The sensor is size 90mm and features large 12mm Ø shaft and extra heavy duty bearings and shaft seals. Together with the remote MR310 module, the ZapFREE™ encoder system uniquely combines three functions in one - incremental encoder, multi-turn position sensor and tachometer. Typical applications include petrochemical plants, oil rigs, steel mills, aerial cable cars, cranes and hoists. The MR316’s all-optical, totally passive design outperforms resolvers as well as conventional optical and magnetic encoders. Advantages include: wide operating range (-60°C/+150°C); outdistances copper cable; intrinsically safe and ATEX-compliant; immune to EMI/RFI and ground loops; unaffected by high magnetic fields; and radiation resistant. Mounting options include synchro clamps or panel mount. The “passive” MR316 optically links to the “active” MR310 ZapFREE™ Remote Encoder Interface (REI) Module via a single 62.5/125 multimode fiber link – up to 1000 meters (3280 feet) away. ...

Weighing electronics determines truck loads reliably and with high accuracy

Scale electronics ensures manipulation-safe data transferComplete check-in and check-out scales for trucks can be easily implemented using HBM’s new DIS2116 digital weighing electronics and C16i digital load cells. In legal-for-trade mode, data is encrypted for transfer from the load cells to the DIS2116. HBM is the first provider so far to comply with the latest requirements of the MID EC directive (eg implemented in WELMEC 7.2) for manipulation-safe data transfer from the transducer to the downstream electronics. Save time. The weighing electronics is easy to install as only a few software commands are needed to integrate the DIS2116 into a host system. All information required for legal-for-trade applications – such as dates, gross, net, tare, manual tare – are held internally. Therefore your downstream software no longer requires any special legal-for-trade functions. DIS2116 features electronic off-center load compensation so that only a single mass on each corner of the truck scales is needed for calibration to compensate mechanical corner errors. This takes only a few minutes compared with the two to three hours required for off-center load compensation on conventional analog systems. Therefore, it often becomes unnecessary to laboriously climb down into the weighing machine pit. ...

Sierra's Smart-Trak® Model 100 Series Chosen as Part of Key Test Equipment in Measuring CO2 Absorption in Antarctica

Smart-Trak® digital mass flow controllerSierra Instruments, Inc.: With just days left before Stanford researcher David Mucciarone would leave on his annual pilgrimage to Antarctica, the mass flow controller in his carbon analyzer failed. His instrumentation supplier recommended that he make the transition to Sierra. On a wing and a prayer, he purchased a Sierra Smart-Trak® Model 100 digital mass flow controller just prior to boarding ship. He installed it on the trip down to Antarctica, and it worked, perfectly. But fierce trials lay ahead as the icebreaker he was travelling on plunged through miles of thick ice before delivering him to one of the most severe environments on Planet Earth. Despite the challenges, the Smart-Trak® has never faltered. “We’re very happy and that’s the bottom line,” says Mucciarone. No greater challenge faces our planet right now than determining conclusively how we are impacting the environment and what can be done to arrest and reverse global warming. To deepen our understanding, Stanford researcher David Mucciarone spends two months in the Antarctic every year measuring the breakdown of inorganic carbon in both sea and ice to learn how much carbon dioxide the ocean can effectively digest. Based on his success with the carbon analyzer, he plans to employ additional analyzers on ocean reef and other ecosystems around the world—each containing a Sierra Smart-Trak® mass flow controller. The Smart-Trak® digital mass flow controller ...
