MICRONOR Introduces World’s First Universal MPG/Handwheel for Teach Pendants and Other Motion Control Applications

MR190 Universal Manual Pulse Generator/Handwheel (MPG)Micronor’s MR190 Universal Manual Pulse Generator/Handwheel (MPG) is the world’s first MPG to offer both A/A’/B/B’ differential line driver and A/B pull-up quadrature outputs in a single unit. No longer does a CNC machine manufacturer, control panel fabricator, distributor or service center need to stock 3 or more handwheel models because of the non-standardized interface requirements of different manufacturers and models of CNC systems, PLCs and teach pendants. An MPG is a common accessory found on CNC machine tools. It is a manually controlled rotary handwheel that the machine operator uses to move a tool incrementally along an axis. The MR190 provides 100 detent positions per revolution and outputs one A/B quadrature pulse cycle per detent or “click”. The quadrature outputs tell the machine both the number of incremental steps to move and direction. The MR190’s intuitive operation, tactile feedback and ease of interface is ideal for use in all types of teach pendants, control panels, motor drives, position control systems and electronic instrumentation....

Piezo-controlled Cracking of Piston Rods

Piezo-electric force sensorsPiezocryst Advanced Sensorics: In nearly every motor you will find piston rods, which transfer the piston stroke to the crankshaft. Frequently, separated piston rods are employed which, in the past, had to be produced in multi-level processes with a high standard of production accuracy. Through the use of piezo-electric force sensors, it is possible today to produce piston rods in a much more simplified production process. Here, the piston rods are systematically cracked at a predetermined breaking point and then fitted together later. In using this procedure, not only production costs decrease, but the piston rods also exhibit better behavior in relation to shear forces. Procedure: Most piston rods have two bearing shells, which were always handled in separate processes and had to be intricately fine-tuned to enable proper mounting. This fine-tuning required a very high level of production precision and therefore represented a substantial cost factor. In order to reduce these costs, the piston rods are now produced as one-piece precision forging parts and then cracked at a defined position. The fracture faces created, fit together exactly and do not need any additional handling. Compared to conventional faces, micro gearing allows for high level of component strength against shear forces; the fracture faces are almost invisible after assembly. ...

New Oxygen Analyser Product Line from Michell Instruments

Oxygen Analysers from MichellWith over 30 years’ experience in delivering highly reliable solutions in gas analysis, the Michell Instruments Group has responded to the demand for an integrated product offering with a range of high performance Oxygen Analysers. The new product line uses recent developments in technology to measure of oxygen at both trace (ppm) levels and percentage oxygen concentrations and is suited for both clean environments as well as harsh and hostile applications. It is a natural step in Michell Instruments’ growth strategy. The variety of oxygen applications mean that a particular type of oxygen analyser, developed with a specific technology, is required for each situation. The complete range of Michell Oxygen Analysers use a selection of technologies each suited to a different set of applications. The analysers of the XZR-400 and XZR-500 series are based on the unique MSRS Zirconium Oxide technology for accurate and repeatable oxygen concentration measurement. The XZR-400 is designed for detecting oxygen in clean gases while the XZR-500 is designed for flue gas analysis. Due to their patented metallic sealed reference Zirconium Oxide Sensor, there is no need for reference air making the installation of both ranges simple and cost effective. The XTP-600Y and XTM-600 Series are rugged industrial analysers housed in explosion-proof enclosures. The XTP 600Y is based on the Michell proprietary advanced thermoparamagnetic technology with no moving parts. This makes the sensor ideal for applications where it will be exposed to movement and vibration – such as on board an oil tanker. The XTM-600 Series uses both the traditional paramagnetic (dumb-bell) oxygen sensor ...

Integration of Piezocryst Sensors into Condition Monitoring of Large Engines

cylinder pressure sensorsPiezocryst Advanced Sensorics: A few months after the introduction of a new generation of onboard sensors for the continuous measurement of cylinder pressures in large engines, the first Condition Monitoring Systems were put into operation in cooperation with AVL. The system, which operates under the name EPOS – Engine Performance and Operation System – is a novel monitoring and diagnostic system for large engines. Pressure sensor technology, in addition to the implementation in simple hand-held units and OEM applications, is now available for use in continual condition monitoring. With growing fuel costs and increased emissions costs for CO2, NOX and SOX, demand is increasing for more efficient systems for the control and optimization of large diesel and gas engines; given that minor improvements in efficiency in single digit percentages allow for savings in thousands of Dollars per year. AVL EPOS incorporates permanently installed cylinder pressure sensors, which detect the pressure pattern in individual cylinders. In a subsequent data measurement unit, the pressure signals of the individual cylinders are evaluated. The performance of the engine is determined and possible problems identified using a complex algorithm. The user receives an automatic diagnosis and essential information regarding the reduction of fuel consumption, emissions ...

Fully Compensated Mini Pressure Transmitter

miniaturized absolute pressure transmitters (Pisello type, series 20 P)KELLER AG, the pressure measurement technology specialist, has now introduced miniaturized absolute pressure transmitters (Pisello type, series 20 P), featuring optimized temperature compensation and measuring ranges from 10 bar to 600 bar. Keller developed the ingenious PromComp principle as many as 20 years ago, and it can now be exploited to full advantage thanks to the general miniaturization of electronics. A circuit no larger than a cent coin compensates the Pisello pressure transmitter perfectly against fluctuations in operating temperature. A temperature sensor in the PromComp divides the temperature range into fields with a width of 1.5 Kelvin each. Two values are assigned to each field in an EEPROM: one value for the zero point and another for the amplification, determined by mathematical interpolation in the calibration process. During operation, the corresponding values are ‚switched in‘ at the relevant temperatures. Temperature fluctuations of ...

Measuring large distances using time-of-flight measurement

light travel time sensorsMicro Epsilon has extended its product range with new laser sensors. In addition to the existing time-of-flight sensors there are four new complementary models. Under the names optoNCDT ILR 1181, 1182, 1183 and 1191, these sensors provide new approaches to solving automation tasks. The 80 Series functions according to the phase comparison principle, whereby a precise distance measurement is possible. They achieve a measuring range of 30m for use on diffuse reflecting surfaces and 150m when using a special reflector, which guides the laser pulse back into the optical system for large measuring distances. The optoNCDT ILR 1191 operates according to the “Time-of-Flight” principle and achieves a measuring range of 3,000m with a reflector; a measuring range of 300m is possible without using the reflector. With a linearity of between ±3mm and ±5mm or ±20mm to ±0mm for the 1191 series and a repeat accuracy of less than 0.5mm, these sensors are ideal for precision measurement tasks. ...
