Reliable
encoders for railway vehicles |
| |
Baumer
Electric: With its BMIV line, Baumer presents an
encoder designed
for the harsh operation on railway vehicles. Multiple channel outputs
allow simultaneous wheelset speed information to multiple systems, also
with differing pulse rates. These include systems for slide control,
speed and slip regulation as well as those to suppress torsion
vibration. The demands made of encoders for railway vehicles are
enormous. They must remain completely unaffected by extreme
environmental influences such as dirt, oils, grease, spray water,
condensation, large temperature differences as well as high and low
temperatures. High shock and vibration loads resulting from the direct
encoder installation on unsprung pivoted bogies are a particular
challenge. All Baumer encoders for railway vehicles operate on the
proven MAGRES principle. This magnetic sensing method offers extreme
reliability and is totally resistant to all loads encountered during
railway operations. Aside from compliance with all railway standards,
the BMIV also offers SIL 2 certification. Baumer has decades of
experience in sensors intended for use with railway vehicles. Thanks to
close cooperation with our customers coupled with continuous
innovations, we are able to offer tailor-made solutions using the latest
technology and offering the highest level of customer benefit. ... |

New
clamping force sensor for cable car
and ski lift |
| |
Magtrol
SA, Switzerland, specialist in
force measurement, presents a new
range of force sensors enabling the check and control the clamping force
cabin on ropeway as well as emergency brake forces. Based on
strain
gauges technology, the SK-01 sensor is measuring the force along the
clamping distance and not only on a single point. It is easy to install
and suitable for outdoor use (stainless steel construction). The sensor,
which has 1% of accuracy, can also be delivered with accessories such as
amplifier and specific display. This sensor is available in two
different ranges: one for ropes of diameter 20 to 38 mm for forces up to
300 kN, the other for ropes of diameter 40 to 60 mm for forces up to 400
kN. The adaptation to the specific rope diameter is made by mean of
shells surrounding the sensor body. Thanks to its flexibility and
competencies, Magtrol is able to offer specific customized design, in
both, dimension and forces. Over the years, Magtrol has been gathering a
strong position in the supply of
load sensors and overload control
system in the cable transport field (cable cars, ski lifts, chair lifts,
funiculars) and in the crane industry. This new SK-01 sensor completes favourably the Magtrol Load-Force-Weight product range, including
load pins, load cells, force sensors ... |

The new OPTISONIC V6: High-accuracy gas
measurement for non-custody transfer |
| |
With
the new OPTISONIC V6, KROHNE has launched the next generation of
ultrasonic gas flowmeters for non-custody transfer applications. OPTISONIC V6 sets new standards in accuracy and cost-effectiveness. This
novel
flowmeter has been specially developed for applications in the
production of natural gas and for gas suppliers’ city gates and transfer
stations. Its rugged construction makes it ideally suitable for use in
extreme environments, such as offshore platforms. Beneath its strong
housing is a sensitive and highly accurate technology: OPTISONIC V6 has
6 measuring chords, two of which are solely dedicated to diagnostic
functions. Once commissioned, it continuously checks the operating
state. The positioning of the chords in two horizontal parallel planes
compensates for swirl and thus provides reliable measurements even with
turbulent flow profiles. For the first time ever in a
gas flowmeter for
non-custody transfer applications, KROHNE has separated the information
on the flow from the information on the diagnostics. This data is
transmitted directly to the user via two separate signal outputs.
Continuous monitoring of the diagnosis data via a web server is being
developed which will permit ... |

Servo research points the way to improved
dynamics |
| |
Sensor
Technology Ltd: Research at the University of Manchester has
demonstrated servo systems with vastly improved dynamics with the most
challenging of loads. The key to the increased performance is a
torque
transducer from Sensor Technology employing Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)
techniques to deliver high-bandwidth, non-contact solution. The ease of
set-up of modern servo drive systems, combined with steadily reducing
costs, has made servo control an attractive proposition across the
spread of motion control applications in a wide range of industries.
Despite the developments in inverter technology which promise near-servo
performance, in the most demanding applications requiring the fastest
response and the most precise control of position, velocity and torque
only true servo systems can cut the mustard. The ease of access to servo
technology, and the steadily increasing capabilities of servo
controllers, has seen machine designs pushing the boundaries ever
further, with faster system response becoming an increasingly common
industrial requirement. With a perfect load, this would not represent a
problem. But no load is perfect. Practical mechanical drive systems can
be complex, incorporating several non-still interconnecting shafts and
elastic couplings, all characterised by ... |

New software announced for Cognex DataMan
ID Readers - DataMan 100 now reads up to 128 codes in a single field of
view |
| |
Cognex®
Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of
machine
vision systems and
industrial ID readers, today announced new software
that expands the decoding capabilities of the DataMan® 100 vision-based
ID readers and provides additional code support for all models in the
DataMan product family. With the new software release 3.2, DataMan 100
fixed-mount ID readers can now simultaneously read up to 128 codes in a
single field of view—even with mixed code types—opening up many new
application possibilities. “Many manufacturers continue to use a
traditional 1D barcode label for the product ID, but have added a
direct-marked 2D code to store the serial number, batch number, and date
and lot code. They want to read both codes simultaneously for tracking
and tracing products through their manufacturing process, and our new
multicode feature is perfect for them,” said Carl Gerst, Cognex ID
Reader Business Unit Manager. “Others want to read codes on multiple
products that appear in the same field of view due to their small size,
such as components on a printed circuit board or medical vials in a
tray. ... |
