Nanostructured Electrochemical
Ozone
Monitors |
| |
|
Synkera Technologies, Inc. has received a SBIR Phase I grant from
the National Institutes of Health to develop improved
ozone sensors
capable of making reliable in-field exposure measurements for
individuals with asthma and other respiratory diseases. The ultimate
goal of the project is the development and validation of a new, personal
monitor that will be able to detect low levels of ozone (<12 ppb) in
real-time with the required spatial resolution in order to aid research
on respiratory diseases, leading to a better understanding of how people
are affected by various environmental exposures. Exposure to elevated
levels of ground level ozone has negative health impacts on susceptible
individuals, particularly children. Susceptible individuals can readily
experience respiratory system irritation, reduced lung function,
inflammation and damage to cells that line the lungs, aggravation of
chronic lung diseases, and possibly permanent lung damage. The sensors
will build upon recent advances in electrochemical sensing technology to
create a next generation product that is significantly smaller, faster,
more sensitive, stable and lower cost than any electrochemical sensor
available today. There are three primary aspects to this ... |

Cavity Pressure Sensors Now Available
without Cables |
| |
As
technology leader in sensors and systems for monitoring injection
molding processes, Kistler presents a new generation of
cavity
pressure sensors without connecting cables. These designs use the
mechanical support sleeve to conduct the pressure signals from the
sensor via mold platens. Cable-free sensors simplify handling and
mounting, increase flexibility and availability and cut maintenance
costs. The first
cavity pressure sensors to be available with a spring
contact for this new approach to conducting the charge will be Types
6183AN (front diameter of 1 mm) and 6182BN (2,5 mm). With this new
technology the sensor is mounted with a sleeve that supports it in the
mold platen or the molding module and senses the forces under load. In
the cable-free system this sleeve is designed to transfer the charge
signals of the sensor from the sensor to a contact element in the
supporting mold platen. The moldmaker can shorten the sleeve as required
to suit different platen thicknesses. The ends of the sleeve are
finished square with its axis. The contact element is provided with a
single-wire cable that transfers the charge to the single- or
multichannel connector on the mold. ... |

Magnetic cylinder sensors - Exact
detection of piston positions |
| |
Baumer
Electric: The new, magnetic T and C
slot cylinder sensors from Baumer are employed to detect the exact position of pistons in pneumatic
cylinders. Many automation technology applications require pneumatic
cylinder movements of to be closely monitored and the exact piston
position to be detected. In order for the sensor to achieve a precise,
repeatable switching behavior, each sensors activation sensitivity is
exactly defined and individually tested. The compact and rugged plastic
housing offering IP 67 protection provides reliable operation even under
the harshest and most moist conditions. The MZTK 06P1003 line of sensors
for T slots can be easily and quickly installed in the slot from above.
No cylinder disassembly is required, even if both front faces are
equipped with installation panels. The universally applicable standard C
and T slot sensors can also be used for round cylinders and cylinders
with tie-rods. Baumer offers various accessories which permit this. The
result is a reduction of the required sensor types and a simplification
of the warehousing. All sensors are available in ... |

Compact—more compact—LSIS 120 |
| |
The
new LSIS 120 series from Leuze electronic combines
barcode and
2D-code reading in a highly efficient and industrial-suited manner.
Until now, different systems were usually necessary for reading barcodes
and 2D codes. These times have passed for automated handling and testing
systems, robot systems and analysis automation. With the LSIS 120, Leuze
electronic has brought a code reader to market that can reliably read
one-dimensional barcodes, as well as 2D codes. The LSIS 120 (with either
RS-232 or USB interface) operates with fixed focus and a large depth of
field. Both types are characterised by a large reading field with
precise, wide-angle optics. Short read distances are also possible. All
common
barcodes and 2D codes are read omnidirectionally—they do not need
to be arranged in a specific direction. The LSIS 120 enables continuous
traceability of parts with code labels, from the raw producer to the end
consumer, as is increasingly required for circuit boards, tools, food
and in the automotive industry. Another area of use is manual reading,
where the code is held under a fixed reader. This considerably
accelerates processes at ... |

High-precision process calibrator unites
measurement and simulation |
| |
With
its new CED7000 process calibrator, the WIKA Calibration Line
offers a high-precision product for electrical measurands. It works with
an accuracy of 0.003% of reading, with both measuring and simulation
functions united in just one instrument. Due to its capabilities the
CED7000 is particularly suitable for test operations in
temperature
measurement applications. In addition to current and voltage outputs, it
includes connections for the simulation and measurement of 13 different
thermocouples and nine different resistance thermometers. As well as
these, a connection for external
pressure sensors is included. Its
fully-isolated measuring channel enables, in addition to voltage and
current measurement, a 24V supply voltage for the complete calibration
of transmitters. Furthermore, a 250 Ω HARTTM resistance can be
activated. Among the many outstanding performance features of the new
calibrator is its beryllium-copper connectors, the ability to pre-define
up to nine set points and the accommodation of resistance thermometers
with customer-specific parameters. Control of this high-precision
instrument is user-friendly: either via direct input or through a PC
(using either RS-232, IEEE-488 or a USB interface). ... |

The new OPTISONIC V6: High-accuracy gas
measurement for non-custody transfer |
| |
With
the new OPTISONIC V6, KROHNE has launched the next generation of
ultrasonic gas flow meters for non-custody transfer applications. OPTISONIC V6 sets new standards in accuracy and cost-effectiveness. This
novel flow meter has been specially developed for applications in the
production of natural gas and for gas suppliers’ city gates and transfer
stations. Its rugged construction makes it ideally suitable for use in
extreme environments, such as offshore platforms. Beneath its strong
housing is a sensitive and highly accurate technology: OPTISONIC V6 has
6 measuring chords, two of which are solely dedicated to diagnostic
functions. Once commissioned, it continuously checks the operating
state. The positioning of the chords in two horizontal parallel planes
compensates for swirl and thus provides reliable measurements even with
turbulent flow profiles. For the first time ever in a gas flow meter for
non-custody transfer applications, KROHNE has separated the information
on the flow from the information on the diagnostics. This data is
transmitted directly to the user via two separate signal outputs.
Continuous monitoring of the diagnosis data via a web server is being
developed which will permit ... |
