Ultrasonic Flow Meter From Sierra Instruments |

Instruments, Inc.: When a ship of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)
deployed overseas recently, it did so with a Sierra Innova-Sonic® Model
206
In-Line Ultrasonic Flow Meter installed as a critical element of its
refueling system. In these days of soaring fuel costs, getting what you
pay for is crucial. Since the RSN deploys frequently to all parts of the
world, the navy wanted to be assured that the quantity of the expensive
fuel they are being billed for is in fact what is piped aboard. Before
choosing the Sierra Model 206 In-Line Ultrasonic, an exhaustive search
was undertaken to identify the best meter to “double check” the fuel
amounts received. Impressed with their high accuracy, the RSN first
looked at
coriolis meters but found the 2-3” sizes required
prohibitively expensive. They then looked at
positive displacement
meters and, while more economical, the navy was concerned about
potential fouling problems plugging up the sensor ports since marine
bunkering fuel can sometimes be very dirty. Electromagnetic flow meters
can get around this problem, but they do not work on fuel oil because it

Full Scale. The KTE2000CS series consists of highly accurate capacitive
ceramic pressure cells in a rugged stainless steel construction. They
feature excellent long term stability and are compatible with many
corrosive and aggressive liquids. The KTE2000CS transmitters are
calibrated and temperature compensated from -20…+70 °C and provide a
4...20 mA output signal. A special cable with an integrated vent tube
allows a true reference pressure to the sensor element and eliminates
errors due to atmospheric pressure changes. The sensor is protected
against environmental conditions to the IP68 standard and withstands
overpressures of up to 10 times the rated pressure. Important features

have extended their "intelliGAUGE" range (pressure gauge plus electrical
output signal) by a pressure gauge for all applications in the
Ultra-High-Purity sector. The new model PGT23.063 UHP can be delivered
with all standard ultra-high-purity gas connections such as VCR®
compatible fittings. A high-quality, stainless steel, safety pattern
pressure gauge is the basis of the new UHP model. The fully welded
Bourdon tube measuring system first provides an on-site pressure display
without the need for an external power supply, which means that the user
will get a value in any case even in case of power failure. The
electronic angle encoder of the PGT23.063 UHP moreover transforms the
measured value proportionally to the pressure and contact-less into an
output signal of 4 ... 20 mA. This allows the information to be

High counting frequencies, short reaction times – no problem at all for
the zws-7 sensor. The typical switching frequencies of
ultrasonic
sensors – 2 to 25 Hz - depend on the range. However these frequencies do
not suffice in many applications. To meet these particular requirements, microsonic has developed the zws-7 ultrasonic sensor. It scans objects
at a maximum 100 mm detecting range with a switching frequency of up to
125 Hz in keeping with DIN EN 60947-5-2. This allows both detection of
objects with a high counting frequency and extremely narrow gaps between
two objects at fast machinery speeds. The zws-7 responds under 3 ms.

strain gauge amplifier. The amplifier can
be used to evaluate two differently scaled measurement ranges with just
one
strain gauge sensor connected. The input signal is switched to both
channels simultaneously and separately amplified for each measurement
range. This means that analog output signals featuring the highest
degree of accuracy and resolution are available for each of the two
measurement ranges. In particular these strain gauge amplifiers are
often used for applications where there are predominantly two different
operating states, such as high and low-pressure states, and where both
